The Clergy House was excavated in 1931. Some areas have been refilled, but the general layout of two domestic units of two rooms each separated by an irregular courtyard can still, with some imagination, be discerned. The two rooms with pilasters, niches and walls that almost reach the ceiling are the most elegant and are believed to have been part of the house of the bishop of the nearby Cathedral complex.

The entrance to the Clergy House was located on the south with a door partly carved on the scarp face linking it to a room north of the atrium of St. Theodore’s Church.

Among the items discovered in the house was four reused stone objects with inscriptions. One of these was an altar dedicated to the heavenly goddess which is on display today at the University of Jordan’s Archaeological Museum.

Visiting the house takes 5-10 minutes maximum and makes it a rewarding different way to move between the Temple of Artemis to the North and the Church of St. Theodore to the South.
