The Galleria dell'Accademia in Florence is a must-visit destination for art enthusiasts, particularly renowned for housing Michelangelo's iconic sculpture, "David." The museum offers visitors a chance to admire some of the greatest masterpieces of Renaissance art, including works by Botticelli, Ghirlandaio, and others. However, it's worth noting that the collection is relatively small compared to other museums in Florence. Despite this, the quality of the artwork and the historical significance of "David" make it a worthwhile visit. Additionally, the museum can get crowded, so it's advisable to book tickets in advance to avoid long queues. Overall, the Galleria dell'Accademia provides a captivating glimpse into the brilliance of Renaissance art and is a highlight of any visit to Florence.

Incredible. David sure makes a lasting impression. It's such a special feeling to stand in a place filled with so much beauty & history. Definitely worth the visit. A family member took a fall during our visit, the staff was very helpful in assisting us to call an ambulance. The entrance wasn't very exciting, you wait in what feels like an alley.

Wow...what an amazing place!
David made an incredible impression on me. The masterpiece created by Michelangelo is simply breathtaking.
Of course, in the Gallery you will find many more beautiful works of art that are worth paying attention to.
I recommend buying tickets online in advance, because the Gallery is always crowded with tourists, but it is understandable because everyone who visiting Florence wants to see this masterpiece on their own eyes.

What a wonderful place. Michelangelo’s David in itself is worth the admission. It is just mesmerizing, hard to grasp, given its perfection and sheer size. But the rest of the museum is quite a treat for the art-inclined.
We went in November without an anticipated ticket in hand and we queued for 15min before entering. Not busy at all for the first hour, which I suspect makes all the difference. Highly recommended to go early!!

This art gallery is great.. its scale is relatively small (compared to the Uffizi, e.g.) The statue David by Michelangelo is no doubt the centerpiece. Worth the visit!

Michelangelo’s David is obviously the main attraction and the statue does not disappoint. I would check out the statue, view the rest of the museum and then come back for a few more minutes to take in the sculpture again. It really is impressive.

What a great museum to get a feel for the birth of the Renaissance era of the world.
The queue line to get in can be quite long so make sure to buy tickets in advance!
Going through a guided tour like I did made the wait pretty small, but it does come with a premium cost of course.
The Statue of David is quite the thing to see in real life! Highly recommend to stop by while in Florence!

More than just David (which is sure the highlight). Take the time to really look at both the sculptures and the paintings. Remarkable details in the sculptures and vibrant colors in the paintings. Examples of how large sculptures were produced using smaller plaster casts.

Buy tickets in advance with a tour guide and skip the regular line. We still had to wait about 10 minutes to get in. David is much more impressive when you are here. Also many unfinished statues. Really cool gallery.

Very nice museum, it is all concentrated and built around the statue of David. Even if you go just for David it is enough. I also enjoyed the room next to david with many plaster statues, very good work

Worth every cents: David by Michelangelo is the super star here but you can find also few beautiful paintings and a room full of statues.

You will not get overwhelmed by many painting or many status.
There is a perfect equilibrium and the David is astonishing.

Superb gallery and really a breath taking experience! But please don't do like us and please buy the tickets beforehand on the internet or somewhere else... we went there without tickets and waited 3:30 hours to get inside... it was an absurd! They let first the big tours and people with tickets... and the no-tickets line barely walks in hours...

The lines to get in are only slightly confusing but the workers are well organized and helpful. The works of art are well displayed and even with tons of people, this is a fantastic option for a visit. If you're thinking about David, Michelangelo does not disappoint. I would not say it's overrated. It's so grand and perfect it's mind boggling! What is disappointing is that David should be by himself and no other piece should be vying for attention because everything else in that hall gets forgotten and lost. I was hoping that I would go back through the hall and see some other works but it continues in a circuit. Don't forget to visit the upstairs and take time to view the art in the same hall as David because it is amazing as well.

30 minute wait with reservations in the evening on a weekday in Oct.

Fabulous museum with Michelangelo sculptures!
The second interesting place in Florence after Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore.
Such a long queue even if with reservation! However, reservation can expedite much more. It took me around 3 hours in the line, and inside was busy, then it is not a good idea to spend more than 1 – 2 hours in. Overall, consider at least half a day to visit this gallery.

Not only famous statues like David, but also there were so many which they will impress you. There is gallery inside to shop which their prices are affordable somehow. A few minutes’ walk to Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Basilica of Santa Croce, Giotto Bell Tower and Ponte Vecchio.
Overall, recommended!

Beautiful gallery especially if you want to see the statue of David from Michelangelo, it is insanely stunning in person. It's pretty crazy seeing how large it is in person and how much detail was involved, you see the muscles and veins sculpted into the statue!!

It is a little bit confusing entering and I recommend purchasing tickets in advance... Now when I say tickets in advanced you still need to pick up your tickets right across from the gallery entrance. You can pick these up about 10 minutes from your entrance and then you will need to stand in another line waiting for your entrance to the gallery.

Inside the gallery there are other works of art in terms of paintings from other artists and other sculptures. There was also another small section which had a collection of musical instruments

Very cool and extremely worth checking out!

Incredible museum that lives up to the hype. David is absolutely a sight to see in person. This museum is a bit on the older side, and could use some renovations, however definitely worth a vist.

Of course!!
David is the star!
If you don't want to wait in line, pay the extra 20 Euros per person to get a guided tour which lets you go straight in and get a little earphone through which the guide gives you details. It's well worth it and otherwise you will wait in line for an hour or two even off season!

Really recommend getting tickets in advance, we had to wait for 3 hours in the queue, but it was worth it to see the works of art, specially the David.

Great collection, of course Michelangelo' David keeps most of the attention, there are some of the slaves he disn't finish for a pope, and paintings and sculptures of other masters, and a small, bit interesting musical instruments exhibition

The David just takes your breath away when taking the corner to this gallery area. I booked tickets in advance and had a scheduled time for 4 pm, so the gallery wasn't that crowded. This gave me a chance to sit down close to the David statue and really examine the masterful work of Michelangelo 😍
