Rockville Air Station

It was a good assignment in the Air Force. I enjoyed my time there.

I was a radar maintenance tech at Rockville for two years 1970-72. I have many fond memories of the area. My wife and baby daughter were able to join me after a few weeks and we had a great time exploring the area and meeting people.

I was stationed there from 93-94. My wife and I plan to travel to Iceland in the spring. I was planning to visit here but it doesn't look like there is much left to see.

Was TDY at Rockville as an A27350 radar operator 12/68 - 7/69. The NCO club had the best steaks and Icelandic lobster found anywhere. Never saw a single tree in Iceland anywhere. The only sadness there was the burning of an American flag just yards from the guard shack which was manned by U.S. Marines. chemoniepilot@gmail.com

I was an Radar Operator there 1970-71, worked in the NCO club cooking steaks and making salads, on my days off. Pretty bleak landscape then except for the radar dome.

I was there is June 1964 when the base I was stationed at in France was being shut down and three units of C-130A models were being transferred to the States. They stopped for refueling and crew rest. I was on the first plane and was responsible for keeping records of the arrivals and departures and forwarding the information on. However, my baggage was on the last airplane (with my Class-A uniform), so I was unable to leave to base and the final two squadrons were diverted via the Azores, so I spent all my time on base and it took about 10 days before I was able to finally leave. I didn't get very dark at night at that time of year.

Stationed 91 thru 93 it wasn't as bad as Seattle

Now used as a parking spot for coach parties viewing the Northern Lights
