Took about 40-60 minutes to hike there so give plenty of time.

WOWWW! Just wow the nature preserve is gorgeous and definitely worth a visit! We went here for the black basalt waterfall (it’s called Svartifoss so look that up for navigations instead of Skaftafell like we did lol) but Skaftafell is definitely worth the visit, the glacier lake, the nature, the waterfalls all of it! Absolutely gorgeous, we were here from 20:00 till around midnight but could have stayed longer! There was nearly no one around which made it feel so much more special as well, gorgeous place!

You're just silly if you don't stop. Highly recommend hiking the full loop instead of doubling back. If you double back you'll have to head back up pretty steep hills and see the same waterfalls from the same angles. If you do the full loop there are steep stairs at the start, but mostly downhill the rest of the way WITH SOME PRECARIOUS steps. Be careful. You will get some delightful new angles and views of other waterfalls and some really cool/open overlooks.

Be sure to about the formation of the Besalt columns. Super cool and nerdy.

The hike to the falls is actually very steep in spots. All descriptions say it is easy, it is not. Footing is fine but may be difficult for those with joint issues. Once there it is spectacular.

a wonderful easy walking in the middle of the nature which lasts about 45 minutes to get there.
after that, from the base camp, you can straightly go to the glacier in half an hour.

Beautiful reserve. It has a parking lot nearby, and a camping site for campervans.

Could not recommend this place enough to people who are on the move and camping. Public shower was a godsend after we had been on the road for a week or so camping around. Parking was easy and close to a lot of spots. And the hiking was amazing.

It's very nice hiking area. You have to pay for the parking but there is enough space and several different hiking paths.
The ones leading to this exceptional waterfall with basalt columns (architectural inspiration) is quite popular and you meet there a lot of people. But every other path further, or higher are less visited and offers beautiful views.

Take a dirt road approximately in the middle on your right hand side if you drive from Jokulsralon to Fjallsarlon, and drive as long as you car allows. Enjoy spectacular views on the mountains and the glacier.

Very nice place. Absolutely stunned by the natural scenery. Better get equipped with ing hiking gears as not much paths are structured, mostly just following people’s footprints. Can get super snowy up there. But still very amazing park.

I highly recommend viewing this waterfall. This is the most unique waterfall I've ever seen. The shapes in the walls are absolutely stunning and give you a great perspective on how fascinating nature can be! The walk to get to the waterfall is a bit of a hike, but is is well worth the walk. On the way there are also other falls and bridges too look at and go over.

One of the more unique waterfalls in Iceland. The waterfall can be accessed trough one of the multiple hiking trails in the park. It has a nice overview where you can also sit. The parking at the park is around 5€ which is normal for Iceland.

The basalt formations make this waterfall unique compared to the other ones

The basalt columns make this waterfall one of the most unique falls in the country. It’s not as large or as watery as some, but the geodesic natural design surely has its unique charm. Plus, it’s right between an abandoned US military plane and the glacial lagoon. Both beautiful and interesting places to explore.

Very interesting natural park. You can start from a visitor centre and to use 5 or 6 walking traces in a young sweet slope hill, viewing 4 waterfalls. First trace S1 is a 2km way until to the front of glacier morena, where a glacial lake occurring. All the area is part to a national geopark beautiful for one day staying, without to many mountain accessories. The place is the starting point to many more difficult glacier 2-3 days itineraries.

Svartifoss (1,6km walking) is one of the most beautifull waterfalls here! There are a few more hikes going on over the mountains.

Lots of hike opportunities, from small 1km loop to over 20km loop. You can get some advice at the office on ehre and how to go. WC are free and clean, but you get to pay for the parking even if you stay on the camping. Beside that, its an amazing place to go.

Definitely a spot not to miss. Glacial hiking, some small sod houses to explore, and of course the waterfall.

The associated campsite is the nicest I've found. It has a kitchen area, full restrooms with showers (token necessary), and even an area to dry your tent.

This is a good spot to put at the end of a long day of driving since it's clean, reliable, and has all of your amenities. I showed up late, cleaned up, slept well, then dried my gear while I hiked the trails the next day.

Great national park! No entrance fee only a small fee for the parking lot the park all day. A couple of great hikes you can do from here. Make sure you have the right hiking shoes though! I recommend the hike up to svartifoss and the S1 to the glacier. Both not too hard and amazing views. There is a restaurant/cafe and gift shop so nothing you will miss.

One on the best places I have been in Iceland. It has lots of hiking paths with different difficulty levels. From them where you will have great views and also you will see amazing waterfalls and the glacier
