Sandvík

Everybody has a different experience, but for me this was the stunning surprise winter highlight of Iceland. Don't go here first. Go see all the other things first in Iceland, the waterfalls, the challenging hikes, the rocky coastlines with 30mph winds blasting your face. Only after these things, will you appreciate the stunning winter serenity of this sand beach in the winter with gentle rolling waves filled with black sand.

4WD SUV is highly recommended. It's somewhat of a challenging bumpy path from the road. We had a Toyota Highlander with studs and had no trouble but you do want to keep your speeds at under 5mph. There is one right turn on the Google Maps path that will send you down a short steep hill that likely would scrape an oil pan, so be sure to follow the well traveled path (just before the turn) that cuts that corner. It's much safer and smoother. There was also a deep hole on the right marked by a stick and a blue shirt. Sounds obvious, but these things would otherwise be easy to miss with the snow cover. Another reviewer broke a shock on this path (probably hitting this hole), so exercise caution.

Best part? Nobody was standing in the background of our pictures. Utterly deserted!

Stora Sandvik beach is one of the most stunning places I have ever visited. It is a hidden gem on the Reykjanes Peninsula, with a black sand beach, grassy dunes and a breathtaking view of the sea and the mountains. The beach is calm and remote, perfect for relaxing and enjoying the nature. The sunsets are fantastic, painting the sky with vibrant colors. The ocean waves are beautiful, creating a soothing sound and a refreshing breeze. I felt like I was in a dream when I was there. Stora Sandvik beach is a must-see for anyone who appreciates the beauty of Iceland.

If you're used to drive on gravel or dirt road and don't drive too fast there is no difficulty to access to the south point. We get here with a Renault trafic and see a Nissan hybrid on our way back 😉

Definitely a Bumpy ride to get here but some of the most beautiful waves in all of Iceland can be found at this spot.

What a neat place to walk or surf.

Cute little furry sand dunes right by the north Atlantic. Saw some shotgun shells so looks like a regular place to go shooting, pretty cool.

Quiet, off the usual tourist attractions. Worth walking to from the bridge between the continents

Totale Einsamkeit an einem der schönsten Strände Islands. Herrlich zum entspannen und spazieren. Oder auch ganz mutig in den Atlantik springen.

Nagyon szép strand .... izlandi viszonylatban. Dűneszerű formációk, finom szemű vulkáni homok, teljes csend. Mi kell még?
