No es place to walk around and admire the power of nature. Like any other natural spot in Iceland, this too was unique. You're not supposed to touch moss and you know you want to. Or at least to stop and take photos of it. This is exactly the spot for it. Worth the visit to satisfy the urge to see it from close up. There is info stand giving more details and a short but rocky path (20m maybe?) So that you can get the feel of what it actually is to walk around the lava bubbles. Be careful! Really cool overall.
There was no wait and parking was free, no restroom, not accessible obviously

Incredibly large field of lava covered with green moss. The gigantic lava field is a result of the 18th century eruption of volcano Laki. It is one of the top largest eruptions in recorded history. The moss is fragile and human contact will kill it, so stay on the path and inside the railings!

You got absolutely special feeling when seeing or touching this moss…please don’t go off the path! It’s a very sensitive ecosystem. Path can be steeply at some points. We spent there about 15-20min, was totally fine. Free parking, no wc.

Beautiful place to get up close with the moss. Please be careful to not step on the moss. It takes 100 years to grow.

The area serounding this rest stop is one of the largest lava fields in the world. The rest stop enables you to experience this lava field that is covered with moss. This is a unique and beautiful area that is worth a stop of 10 to 15 minutes. No WC in this rest stop and no accessability to wheelchair users.

Worth a visit. Quick stop with free parking. It shows the lava fields covered with the woolly fringe moss. Looks alien like and so artificial ! There is a marked trail , please don’t step outside of it on the moss. It is sensitive and will die.

Well worth a quick stop for a close up view of the moss covering the lava field. Plenty of parking. A ramp leads up to an observation deck where you can get a 360 deg view.

Good stop just off the road if you need a stretch. There is a little walk around to see the fields (although you see them from the road too).

A very worth quick stop on the way to other places via the main road. These lava formations with muss are nice to see regardless of the weather. There is a safe parking lot and it is free. You probably won’t spend longer than 20’ here

There are various spots where you can park before this stop.

Good parking place with also some education on the mossy lava fields.

There is a small viewing platform, where you can overlook the area, which is nice.

No drone restrictions.

Great spot to get a pano of the incredible moss-covered lava field. On a dry day the moss may be grey, while it may be green on a wet day! Short walking path allows you to see how rough the lava is underneath the smooth moss. 10/10 would do again.

We went there on a sunny winter day (Feb end). despite the wind chill, the green moss bring out the smile and the inner kid from everyone. Tour guide told us the moss is one of the ancient plants in the world and it only live under prestine air quality.

Another area of the Continental Plattes.
Spectacular topography with trails going up and down the cliff edges.

Very cool and surreal!

Not many WC/bathrooms nearby though, I think we passed one about 30 minutes before this stop and didn’t see another one for a long time.

Small, spot easy to miss.
You should definately stop here, and take a quick look. It's only 5-10 min and the parking is free. The bizzare layer of moss over the lava rocks is a must see

Nice little stop to see moss covered lava fields. You’ll be seeing the same landscape for miles before getting here, but this is a sweet little parking lot with some I Formation boards and a 100 or so meter trail for you to take pictures and soak in the views.
Definitely worth a 10 minute stop.
