Arg-e Alishah

It is one of the most prominent buildings in central Tabriz, with an imposing façade, which fascinates those interested in architecture. The place served both ad a mosque and a citadel in the days of its prime. Unfortunately, only one section of the building stands today, but that section on its own is a reflection of the mastery of the architects who erected the building to serve as the centre of governance in Tabriz. There is no entrance fee, and you can admire the majesty of the building as much as you like.

This is a remnant of a historically important infrastructure in Tabriz. Once was a Citadel and a mosque, now unfortunately only one part of the structure stands.

Arg of Tabriz is a national landmark. The original construction was made between 1318 and 1339, during the Ilkhanate. During the construction, the main barrel vault collapsed and the construction was stopped afterward. Centuries later, between the eruption of the Russo-Persian War, 1804-1813, and the Russo-Persian War (1826-1828), the compound was quickly reconstructed as a military compound. During the reconstruction of the Arg compound, a foundry factory for the manufacturing of cannons for the Iranian Army was built as well as a military headquarters, a barrack for the troops, and a small palace.

Unfortunately the gov. destroyed most of it to build a mosque!

If you are planning to travel to Tabriz, I definitely suggest you to visit this beautiful and wonderful place because you will certainly not regret it.
Unfortunately, due to poor management and constructions that have been done next to this lasting work, without considering geological and soil activities, but fortunately, this beautiful work is still standing and I hope it will remain.

An amazing and giant historic building which clearly represent damages it has suffered.
From getting shelling during Russian invasion to getting mistakenly fired.
Now it's surrendered by Imam Khomeini Mosalla yard and is left there as is.

Arg of Tabriz or Arge-Alishah is the remnants of a large acropolis fortification (whence the metathetic name ark or arg plus polis) and city wall in downtown Tabriz, Iran. Its structure is visible from far distances in downtown Tabriz, if not blocked by the newly erected highrise buildings.

In the 19th century with the rise of tensions between Iran and Russia the structure rapidly turned into the city's fort and additional military installations such as a barracks and cannon foundry were added to the original structure. During the twentieth century the military installations were removed from original construction and the surrounding of the ark turned into a park. In the late twentieth century a big mosque was built next to the citadel.

An old building, used as a symbol of city, however, the nearby construction works may have very destructive effect on it. There is a 3D model of it in the Google earth (created by me, indeed).
