Rangpo Police Check Post

Rangpo is a town in East Sikkim district in the Indian state of Sikkim. The town borders West Bengal and is situated along the Teesta river. It is the first town in Sikkim on NH 10 (earlier called NH 31A before renumbering of all national highways) that links Siliguri to Gangtok. It is about 200 m above sea level with a sub-tropical climate. It is the Gateway to Sikkim and all vehicles entering Sikkim have to stop here.

Very good people and a beautiful place, Rangpo. If you are doing nothing wrong, there will be no problem here. Now the checking is thorough and they see permits for non Sikkim residents, so better make a permit from Sikkim Govt website.

One of the most heavily guarded state borders in India. Police personnel are super active and very polite.
Last but not the least , they look super handsome/beautiful in their police uniform.

The police is quite friendly, if you are new to Sikkim they go the further mile to describe you each and every place in Sikkim including the famous tourist destination and friendly advices are also given by the police so that the outstation people do not get lost or get cheated.

Entering to the state is very tricky. You need genuine reason to enter into the state. Mandatory requirements to enter in Sikkim are as under -

1. RTPCR negative report (or)
2. Fully vaccinated

And

3. Seven (7) days mandatory Quarantine alongwith above two points.
- Paid Quarantine and own house Quarantine mode of Quarantine available. If you have no one to take care for 07 days then you have to go for paid Quarantine which will be provided by state gvt.

Note - Failing any above will not be allowed to enter into the state.

When entering Sikkim from India, this police check post is the first place that you see the contrast between the two places. We came here after a few hours on a cramped jeep on long winding, nausea inducing road. The place was situated on a hill, and the area felt fresh and peaceful (amazing for a police check post!). We had to come down from the jeep to do our paperwork and the jeep left us and continued their journey forward. Amazingly, one of the police uncle actually told us that he would help us to get a ride on a car to continue on to Gangtok, and he did! He stopped cars, talked to them in the local language and finally we managed to get a free ride from a nice Bhutia gentleman, which started our amazing journey in Sikkim! So, thank you for being the nicest police station!

For foreigners (Indian no needs)
No.4 counter has nobody, you go inside office. After officer will check your documents and write your details, he will give you a stamp.

If you are visiting sikkim, remember to must carry one of your id proof along with you, and if you are a tourist with another nationality, always carry ,2passport sized photographs and photocopy of your passport and visa, it is a mandatory to submit copies of your document at the checkpost, and for others, merely display of your ID cards would be enough..

It went to sikkim in covid pandemic and had to go through the checking and had to show my vaccination reports.

Efficient police personnel and have been very friendly with people who cross into Sikkim. They follow the rules strictly.

Friendly people..if your documents are all set you will be welcome respectfully. otherwise police out here is bit strict.

Very strict RTPCR certificate or they take Rapid test covid test.it will cost you 500 per person

They are quick, professional, helpful to tourists. You must need permission prior entering Sikkim.
