This ghat holds the story of Lord Shiva and maa parvati (his wife) where she dropped a bangle in the river. Unable to find the bangle, she cursed the ghat with death pyres burning forever for 24x7. Apparently, this ghat has the largest cremation grounds for Varanasi and the fire never extinguishes here.

So, it is actually a place where the elderly across the world visit and spend their last days while enjoying the charisma of the ghat. It is believed that death is even painless at this ghat.

This place is a very special place. 24x7 365 days non stop cremation is done here. Normally people are scared of entering the crematorium. However, this is an open cremation place where even women go very close to the burning bodies without fear. This is the effect of Kashi Vishwanath temple just beside this. People say if you are cremated over here you attain moksh.

What a fascinating ghat this is. On the sactred Ganges river this is the most revered spot for a cremation in the hyundu faith. The body of the deceased is carried down through the small alleys and placed in the Ganges for purification. While this is being done the chief mourner and family construct a pyre. AQftyer about 20 monutes the body is recoved from the Ganges and the gold wrappings removed leaving just a simply white linenm wrapping. The body is then placed on the pyre and more ogs placed on top of the body. The chief mourner then ignites the pyre and leaves as the remainder of the ceremony is the responsibility of the funeral director🙏🏻
