Poondi Madha Basilica

This church, just 1km from my home, is a cherished retreat with a serene atmosphere. The beautiful architecture and convenient proximity make each visit delightful. The added bonus of a children's park from 9 am to 5 pm enhances its family-friendly appeal. Overall, it's a multifaceted haven of peace and recreation in my neighborhood.

Thirukkattupalli, 3km from the church, has plenty of hotels and shops.
Note that options near the church might be costly; exploring in Thirukkattupalli could be more budget-friendly.

A quiet Shrine, nestled between River Kollidam and River Cauvery, not crowded like Shrine Velankanni but a must visit one. No direct buses either from Trichy or from Thanjavur. From Trichy, I went to Kallanai and then to Poondi, got down at the Arch and walked for a kilometre. A good, clean Cafeteria is also there.

Such a lovely, peaceful and religious place to visit and pray. The entire church was so beautiful. They kept the surroundings clean and tidy. There were a lot of space for parking. Had an amazing experience during the visit. And there was also a small canteen for food and snacks. We spent some time inside the church. It felt so peaceful.

Once a year I walk to samayapuram and leave this madha temple to worship and the environment is very nice and the outside parking area is all peaceful and beautiful

What surprises me the most about this church is its immense size; it surpasses even the grandeur of Velankanni Madha Church.

Religious place, very good atmosphere, holy place every Christian must visit this church, have lodge facilities , restaurant and children park available for entertainment

Big church. Peaceful worship place. Big parking space and church rooms are available to stay inside. Hotels facilities also inside. Rooms in the range of 600, 1000 and 1600. Full of greenery nature around the church. Inside village. Bus facilities are less. Own transportation recommended.

Beautiful Basilica, where we can spend our time spiritually. Lots of faithful people come here as part of their pilgrimage trip. Pray with faith and receive the answers from Lord Jesus through the intercession of Mother Mary.

A peaceful pilgrimage place.. you can feel the presence of God around this church. Have a visit once.

A good religious place to visit

The place is calm and surrounded by a park, birds in captivity, small aquarium, children's park and a holy land which depicts Life of Jesus. Kid's can spend some time and they will enjoy. Food options are limited in the area inside and surrounding church.

This is a huge complex with many administrative and education buildings. The Avenue of St. Maria is a 1km sand road where the penitent crawl toward Mary. The place is very busy with pilgrams and visitors. Worth seeing just for the crowds.

Sharing the memory of my visit back in 2009, almost 13 years ago. This basilica is serene and calm, there were some animals/Pets cared and grown in the vicinity of church, I do hope to visit there soon.

Very quiet place ...Having a peaceful day .there is a place for family to enjoy in park and play some games..and there is place to cook foods..

The Church is Like a calm sea. In the Midst of beautiful farming village. Th roads are narrow and meant for outsiders to Drive.

You can go to Church from Vellankanni via Public transport in minimum fare of 200 INR but recommend onky if you are alone Male Traveller otherwise hire a cab with fare 3500 for round trip from Vellankanni to Poondi

An awesome place to just be yourself relax and spend time with Mother Mary and pray for her mercy and blessings

A very famous and sacred place for Roman Catholics. Most of the travellers visit Poondi and then go to Velankanni or vice versa.

There is a good canteen, good and reasonable priced rooms for stay, parking facilities, drinking water facilities and many more new facilities and buildings are under construction.

The Holy Land display was locked might be due to COVID.

Easy to locate and a must visit place while on this side of the country.

I went alone and was not given a room. So please note that single men do not get church rooms. Not sure if single females are given rooms as i did not ask.

Please visit and sure your visit will be fruitful.

Very peaceful place to pray and sit and relax. Whenever you go fathers are kind enough to bless everyone. Nowadays one thing is so annoying... The smell of the birds poop. I worry about people who work there, they may get lung issues. Other than that everything is good
