Arulmigu Aiyarappar Temple is a Shiva Temple located in Thiruvaiyaru, Tamilnadu, on the banks of river Cauvery. The Shiva Lingam is suyambu. Shiva is worshiped as Aiyarappar, and is represented by the Lingams and his consort Parvati  is worshipped as AramValarthaNaayagi.
Nandhi, the Divine bull of Shiva was born here.
On the banks of the river Cauvery, is the samadhi of the saint Thiyagaraja, composer of Carnatic Music and it is here that the greatest music festival in the country takes place annually.
This Temple is known as Dakshina Kailasam.
Saint Thirunavukarasar worshipped here and had Mount Kailash Dharshan from here. He had his holy bath at Manasarovar at Kailash and returned from the Tank here.
If one calls the name Aiyarappar from a particular spot in the temple, it echoes seven times.
This is a Temple every one should have Dharshan and get the blessings of Shiva.

This is a huge temple of Suyambu Lord Siva (Aiyarappar - Ainythu + Aaru + Appar) and Goddess Dharmasamvarthini (Ram Valartha Nayagi in Tamil). This place is located in the northern bank of Cauvery river and is one of the 'Padal Petra Stalam'.
As per puranam, Nandiyam Peruman, was born at this place to sage Salandha. The sage left the child in the temple. It is believed that Shiva performed ablution with Ambika's breast milk on the child, foam from Nandhi's mouth, nectar from Surya Pushakarni, Amrita pushkarani and Saiva theertham. Since the child received from five different water sources, the presiding deity came to be known as Aiyarappar. The temple is counted as one of the temples built on the northern banks of River Kaveri.
Interestingly, wedding to Ambal is performed on Astami night to show that all days are good day. She is manifested in the form of Lord Vishnu here and hence no Vishnu temple in the surrounding.
Lord Dakshinamoorthy is worshiped by Lord Vishnu and hence called as Sooru Hari Sivayoga Dakshinamoorthy. There is a tortoise under his leg which symbolises ignorance.
The temple is designed in such a way that it will echos in multiple places if one calls 'Aiyarappar' at one particular point in the temple.
The temple is open from 5:30 AM to 12 PM and 4 PM to 9:30 PM. Bus facilities are available from Kalanai, Tanjavur, Kumbakonam, Ariyalur.

Aiyarappar temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Shiva located in the village of Tiruvaiyaru, Tamil Nadu, India. The temple is incarnated by the hymns of Thevaram and is classified as Paadal Petra Sthalam. Thiruvaiyaru means Five Rivers around the city. The Five Rivers are Arisilaaru, Vennaaru, Vettaaru, Kudamuruttiyaaru and Kaaviriyaaru.
The presiding deity of the Siva temple here, Panchanatheesvarar (in Tamil, Ayyarappan ' both mean the same thing, `the Lord of the Five Rivers') also gets his name from them. Thiruvaiyaru is considered as holy as Varanasi and bathing in the Cauvery here is as guaranteed to rid devotees of sins as bathing in the Ganges. This Shivasthalam is one of the 6 most sacred places on the banks of river Cauvery which is considered as equivalent to the temple at Varanasi. The other 5 Shivasthalams are Thiruvenkadu, Tiruchaaikkadu (Chaayaavanam), Mayiladuthurai, Tiruvidaimarudur and Tiruvanchiam. Tiruvaiyaru is one of the big and famous temples for God Shiva and is known as Dakshina Kailasam. Tiruvaiyaru is considered to be the 51st in the series of Tevara Stalams in the Chola kingdom located north of the river Kaveri.
The temple is located in Tiruvaiyaru (also spelt as Tiruvaiyaru) a panchayat town in Thanjavur district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is situated on the banks of the river Kaveri, 13 km from Thanjavur, Thiruvaiyaru has an old Shiva temple dedicated to Panchanatheeswar. Though pilgrims flock to this temple throughout the year,The Thiruvaiyaru temple is one among a group of seven, collectively known as the Saptha Sthaanam temples. These temples are unique, for they are related to the marriage of Shiva’s foremost attendant, Nandi, and the part that Shiva played in this marriage.Lord Shiva in the temple is a swayambumurthy. If one calls the name Aiyarappa loudly from a particular spot in the temple, it echoes seven times. Circumambulating the temple prakarams is a usual tradition but this is prohibited in this temple.Thiruvaiyaru is more renowned for its association with Saint Thyagaraja, who, along with Muthuswami Dikshitar and Shyama Sastri, comprises the Trinity of Carnatic music. Near the Shiva temple is the one-roomed house where Thyagaraja composed some of his greatest works. On the banks of the river is the Samadhi of the saint composer and it is here that the greatest music festival in the country takes place annually. Nearby are the Samadhis of some of the other saints like Siva Prakasha Swamigal and Bangalore Nagarathanamma, who actually identified and rebuilt the Samadhi of Sri Thyagaraja

Mother Goddess in the temple is praised as Aram Valartha Nayaki in Tamil and Dharma Samvardhini in Sanskrit meaning Mother who upholds Dharma.

It is noteworthy that devout Saivite Saint Appar – Thirunavukarasar worshipped here and had the Mount Kailash darshan from here.

OM NAMAH SHIVAYA
The name of the place came about due to the presence of five rivers around it-Arisalaru, Vennaru, Vettaru, Kudamuruttiaaru and Kaveri.
One of the 6 places considered equivalent to Kasi.
Birth place of Nandhi Bhagavan.
Lord Shiva gave Kailasa darshan to Saint Thirunavukarasar in this place.
Two separate raja gopurams for Ambal and Shiva.
Lord Mahavishnu got Gnana Upadesam from Lord Dakshinamoorthy here. Lord Dakshinamoorthy can be seen with a Tortoise on his feet instead of Muyalakan.
Goddess Aramvalartha Nayagi is considered as a form of her brother Lord Vishnu. Hence no idol for Lord Vishnu in this temple.
A boy named Sucharithan was saved from death by Lord Shiva in form of Atkondeswarar .He is seen on the southern gateway of this temple.
Built as a granite structure by Karikala Cholan.
A son of Swayambuva Manu named Priya Varadan was the one who originally built the temple.
One of the saptha Sthana sthalams.
Goddess Saraswati and Mahalakshmi can be seen together in a same shrine.

There is a particular spot in this temple ( third prakaram south west corner and one should face North) where if one loudly utters the name of Ayyarappan, it gets reflected and echoed 7 times.

It is believed that the Jatamudi ( Holy Hair) of the Lord is spread so much behind the main shrine, if one has to go around the shrine, he has to tread on the Jatamudi.  Hence circumbulation around the moolavar it is not allowed.
Temple is classified as 2 parts namely Uttra Kailasa and Dakshina Kailasa.
Glorified in Thevaram by all the three Nayanmars-Appar, Sundarar and Sambandar.  This is one of the Kshetrams where they sang the maximum number of Thevarams- 100
