It's always a pleasure to meet '5 Manche Ganpati' from Pune. Kesriwada encounter stands out among the remaining four, but it's truly a delightful experience.

This place is the museum and collection of all items and events of the life of Lokmanya Tilak - the great maratha freedom fighter. This is the place where Lokmanya Tilak started the newspaper with title "Kesari". You will find each individual things maintained very well. Bal Gangadhar Tilak was pioneer in Ganpati pooja as a weapon to make Hindus united and use this unity for the freedom struggle against British government.

With an intention to integrate thoughts and actions towards the freedom movement against the British in the year 1894, Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak, started the Sarvajanik Ganesh Utsav on a large scale in Pune. The Kesariwada Ganpati was the start of this Ganesh Utsav. This Ganpati, along with the faith of Punekars represents the freedom struggle that this city has witnessed. Hence, this pandal holds the 5th important place in the honoured Ganpati's list,

This is 5th most important Ganapati Bappa in Pune. This Ganapati celebration was first started by Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak in Pune. Huge crowd comes for blessings in Ganapati festival season. The deity idol is simple and pleasant. The sthapana and emersion celebration is very nice to watch. The idol is taken in palaki for this emersion celebration.

This Ganeshotsav was our first after we came to Pune. And so, it was a no-brainer for us to do a darshan of the 5 "Manache Ganpati".

Of the 5 Manache Ganpati, 4 are in close localities, the fifth one "Kesariwada Ganpati" is a bit far, nearly 1-1.5 km from the 4th Manacha Ganpati (Tulsibaug Ganpati).

Kesariwada Ganpati obviously has a historical significance in the context of Indian Independence journey. So this place is steeped in both culture and history.

The decor & Ganpati idol are simple esp when compared with the rest of Manache Ganpati.
The place is very spacious and can easily accomodate a large gathering.

If you are on a cultural or historial tour of Pune, this is one place you cannot miss.

Kesariwada Ganpati represents the Ganeshotsav of Shri. Lokmanya Tilak’s ‘Kesari’ organization, started in 1894. The prime focus of Kesari trust has always been on organizing various lectures and competitions that bring people together keeping in mind that this was Bal Gangadhar Tilak’s vision when starting the festival.

This is the place from where the pace of Indian National Movement for Independence from British Government got accelerated.

Tilak Wada has great significance viz a viz Ganpati Jayanti and Shivaji Jayanti (mostly celebrated in Maharashtra)

Tilak Wada was gifted to "Lokmanya" Bal Gangadhar Tilak by, his Excellency (Highness) Maharaja Sayajirao Rao Gaekwad of Princely State of Baroda as a grant for Merit as a Scholarship.

Kesari Wada Ganpati — केसरीवाडा गणपती (मानाचा पाचवा गणपती)

Kesari Wada Ganpati is the 5th most honorable Ganpati in Pune which was installed by freedom fighter Lokmanya Tilak himself in 1893 at his own house Kesari Wada thereby named as Kesari Wada Ganpati. He made it an official public festival by forming Ganesh Mandal known as Kesari Wada Ganapati Mandal in 1894.

The Ganpati festival in Pune is eye-pleasing and celebrated with great pomp. Every year people eagerly wait to welcome their beloved Bappa and look forward to relish Bappa’s favourite food ‘Modaks’.

The Kesari Wada was previously known as Gaikwad Wada. Located in Narayan Peth, this wada built by Gaikwad Sarkar is also the birthplace of Pune’s first newspaper- Kesari. Despite several changes over time, the printing press in the wada still stands and is open for public viewing.
The modern day Kesari Wada also acts as a museum where Lokmanya Tilak’s belongings are displayed along with one of the initial flags of our country. Lokmanya Tilak’s books, clothing, his watch, and a replica of the Mandalay jail where he was locked in are some of the popular attractions of this museum. The Tilak museum is an important stop in the Pune Darshan Tour and is highly regarded by Maharashtrians everywhere. The wada also houses a library which has been personally compiled by Lokmanya Tilak.
With the years, comes change. The wada has been renovated, but its huge wooden trademark entrance is still there. The doors are carved with the roaring figures of the word ‘Kesari’ which is a Sanskrit translation for lion. The famous hall – Lokmanya Sabhagruha, is still used for hosting several social and cultural programs.
The Kesari Wada is proof that a building, or even a stone structure, can be the birthplace of the most enormous change. We, as Punekars, owe our freedom and our cultural identity to Lokmanya Tilak and Kesari Wada. Lest we forget, this wada is one of the main reasons why people still refer to Pune as the cultural capital of Maharashtra! for historical experience you also be visit here.
