A truly wonderful palace! It was one of the nicest, best renovated royal palaces I have been. The exhibition of Queen Elisabeth is very nice and informative. There are many unique historic memorabilia and valuable artwork showcased. I highly recommend this place to visit!

So so beautiful. Only had one day to be there in Gödöllő but it was more than enough to check out this wonderful castle.

I got a student ticket and a your with two other people. During this your, we got to explore the whole castle, except the places that were getting renovated, at a steady place, allowing us to ask questions, learn cool new facts and take some amazing pictures.

The history of it all is something I absolutely love as Sissi is such an amazing figure and to us Hungarians, she was one of the most amazing queens.

If you're a fan of history or maybe just want to check castles out, it is absolutely worth a visit.

What a beautiful building, and what a lot of history; both good and bad. The stories of Queen Elizabeth (Sisi) are wonderful to hear. Much is restored, but there is still so much to do to recover from the abuse and lack of maintenance post WWII. Most information is in English. A must visit on your tour of Hungary!

Beautiful baroque castle with important historical value.Visited the place on a weekday during summer holidays. There not too many tourists but even if there were the palace and the gardens are huge so plenty of space.

Favorite palace in Hungary! To be honest it’s so so beautiful that can compete with some British and Italian palaces. Very friendly staff, nicely decorated rooms, nice booklet with history of the place. And as bonus amazing crafty shop.

Had a wonderful concert here on a Monday at 3pm, the hall was full! Hungary has one of the warmest audiences in the world. The palace was stunning, and has a really nice garden. Recommended!

If you have a car and are into driving outside of Budapest for a day highly recommend. This was Sisi’s summer residence. Great exhibits inside and gardens in the back of the grounds. There is a small cafe outside with great coffee and snacks. Went on a weekday and had no lines to get in and not too crowded with people.

The organization (directions) within the castle could be a bit clearer but other than this it is a beautiful place. The rooms are perfectly renovated and lots of objects and furnitures from various periods are visible. The garden on its own would also deserve a visit. They have a few activities for the youngest one like a treasure hunt in the garden, or a little quiz throughout the visit and a room dedicated in the castle.

It was like sitting in a time machine and witnessing Hungarian history closely; Guide was very knowledgeable and she had amazing trivia about everything. And yes, a small souvenir shop too which could enable you to take a small part of the history home as well. Worth all the trouble of coming out of Budapest (that was a smooth and convenient travel too- almost hassle free)

Beautiful baroque castle close to budapest. Been used by Queen Elisabeth (Habsburg family- Sissi) Used to be her summer residence. Huge park and spacious rooms to be visited in the building.

This is one of the loveliest places we've ever seen. The setting is beautiful, the rooms are amaxing, the story is tearful and you can learn a lot about the Hungarian history while visiting.
The price is really good and, if you're a SZÉP card holder, you can use it.
The staff is helpful and amiable, but, be aware that there are rooms where you are not allowed to photograph.
All in all, it's a great place to visit and a fun way to enjoy history.

Baroque palace built by count Antal Grassalkowich, main Hungarian adviser of empress/queen Maria Teresa in the first half of the 18th century. The empress/queen herself was accommodated in the palace. One hundred years later (1867) it was offered by the Hungarian state to the newly crowned royal couple Franz Josef & Elisabeth (Sisi). The latter used it very often as one of her favorite residences away from the intrigues of the court of Vienna. After the independence of Hungary it was used as a summer residence by Miklós Horthy, de facto ruler of the country from 1920 to 1944. The palace went through decades of neglect and misuse at the end of WWII, being successively occupied and sacked by Romanian and Soviet troops. It was used as a warehouse, lodging quarters for Soviet officers, and retirement house. In the 90s it was decided to restore it to the way it was when Sisi had chosen it as her special retreat. Today you can see the restored royal appartements with many beautiful paintings and learn about the loving relationship between the Hungarians and Erzsébet királyné (Queen Elisabeth). There are on the weekends live concerts of classical music to accompany you through your visit. The entrance costs 3200 HUF for adults and 1800 HUF for students. An audio guide is available for 500 HUF. It makes a lovely excursion away from the crowds of Budapest. The café offers delicious Hungarian cakes and sandwiches with a view on the gardens.
