Stopped off here after a long hike and we are so glad they managed to get us a seat! The service was great from the start and the menu all looked very good and was a tough decision. Went for the 12oz rib eye and it was very good! Also sticky toffee pudding was one of the best I've had. If we are ever back near this place we will definitely be eating here again!

We love going to our favourite Ancient Britain pub and wish it was closer so we could make it a more regular thing. We visited last night for a late Valentine meal and the food was, as always, outstanding. The salmon was perfect and the cheesecake dessert was light and delicious. The two lovely waitresses, Millie and Olivia were amazingly welcoming as usual and were attentive throughout. I can recommend this traditional pub that serves the best food to visitors to the area. Can’t comment on the accommodation as we didn’t stay.

Had a Sunday roast here for Easter and can’t fault it. The service was brilliant, all the bar staff and waitresses were fast and efficient. I had the roast pork which was delicious and the cheesecake which wasn’t too sweet but absolutely perfect! Thank you very much we’ll definitely be back :)
- would definitely recommend booking as they get very busy!

Lovely little pub. Great food and friendly staff. The pub decor is very cosy and traditional. Couldn't finish my meal of burger and chips. It really is big!

With ample off road parking, this pub/restaurant, is well worth a visit.
Easily found it sits at the side of the Brecon Rd, Pen-y-cae, with the Brecon National Park as its backdrop and the car park is at the rear.
The outside of the building sets the tone, as does the aroma that wafts accross the car park.
Inside the decor gives you the feeling of being in a good old fashioned, traditional Welsh pub.
The menu is varied, with most of the choices, sourced locally. There are good options for children too.
On this occasion I wanted to try the sausages, which I thought I could smell from outside. Although they only served adult portions in limited windows, they were more than happy to accommodate my wish and it was well worth it! Those were probably the best pork sausages I've tasted in South Wales for years.
The staff were especially helpful and pleasant, while also taking and serving our orders in a very timely manner, despite the pub being full.
The prices are not at all unreasonable, given the furnishings and the quality of the food.
Well worth a visit, or two.

As soon as we walked in through the door, we were greeted by an outstanding atmosphere, something that is rare nowadays.
The service and food was excellent, local produce of an exceptional quality, prepared and cooked beautifully.
Very helpful staff, cheerful/friendly and the owner was an excellent host.
Thanks for a great evening!

Lovely food. Lovely pie, although, please don't put it on top of the mash. Made the 'soggy bottom' in the words of Mary Berry. Always worth the visit 😁

We stopped in here after a visit to the local caves. Stopped on the off chance we could get a table and we did. The staff went out of their way to put two tables together to accommodate us for lunch. Wow, what an amazing lunch we had. We honesty haven’t had a meal of such quality and taste for a long time. We had different meals and all were made to perfection and absolutely flawless too. I don’t often review food but we’ve visited May places I’ve the past few months and this has been the best by far. Well done to all for running an amazing pub with amazing food too. We would highly recommend. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ five stars and worth every one. Thank you for accommodating us for lunch.

We stopped at The Ancient Briton while looking for somewhere for lunch.

We just happened to be driving past so stopped, turned round and went in.

We checked and dogs are welcome in the bar area (we had our dog with us).

The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient. The food was lovely. Good portion size! It was all very reasonably priced too.

If we are in the area again we will try to pop in!

We visited on a very busy Saturday evening and fortunately we had booked a table. The staff were amazing, we were never left waiting for anything even though the pub was chocker.
Absolutely fantastic service and the food/beer was great too!

We had a one night stay here in April 2023 for my wife’s birthday weekend spent walking in the Brecon Beacons. We enjoyed a double room (room 1) with a Mountain View, dinner on a Friday night in the restaurant area and a traditional Welsh breakfast on a Saturday morning. The room was well appointed, clean and very comfortable with a huge bathroom. Tea, coffee and water all provided along with a nice range of toiletries in the bathroom. Despite being a room above a busy pub the room was very quiet and we could not hear the pub at all. The homemade food was all delicious and warming - both dinner and breakfast. All the staff were super friendly and helpful and we had a really nice stay. We would certainly recommend this to anyone. We both agree we would return without hesitation.
