Really good Gastro Pub.

We dined here recently with a large party for a family birthday celebration. We were able to reserve a private area inside the pub which was perfect for our group.

Service was good considering there were around 20 of us. Food and drinks arrived quickly and the kids really enjoyed playing in the garden and the playground. There’s a wonderful outdoor seating area with some cute shepherds huts that are great on a summer’s evening.

The menu is extensive and has options to suit everyone, including an entirely separate pizza menu. Highlight for me was my fish and chips which included possibly the largest piece of battered cod that I have ever had the pleasure of being served! It was piping hot and super crispy, accompanied with a tasty tartar sauce - simply perfect!

Everyone enjoyed their food and whilst it wasn’t cheap, we didn’t find the prices too excessive.

Would definitely come back again to try some other items on the menu and would have no hesitation in recommending to friends and family.

Had a lovely late lunch here yesterday. 2nd visit so knew what to expect. Really friendly staff . Good menu and no scanning barcodes. Food was delicious prawn lollipops and chicken satay. Followed by venison in suet pudding and Calves liver. Wish it was closer to where we live!!

Had a very enjoyable family meal at The Jovial Sailor this evening. We reserved one of the outdoor huts, which was perfect in the early evening sunshine. My ultimate burger was delicious and very filling (sorry, forgot to take a photo!), and my eton mess was great too. A couple of pints of Hogs Back Tea to go with it and I was very happy! Excellent value for money, friendly and efficient service. Recommended.

Great meal from an interesting menu. There are plenty of vegetarian and vegan options. I am tempted to say at least 50% of choices fall into that category. For the first time ever, I ordered a vegan main: enchiladas, not because I wanted a vegan meal but because I like Mexican food. It was very good although I found the vegan cheese tasteless. The staff were friendly and accommodating. The only slight downside is that, as happens in so many places, once they clear the dirty crockery from the mains, the staff disappear. We finally were able to get to see pudding menus. I was driving so cannot speak to the drinks menu but it seemed good. There is a huge outdoor seating area, including a garden bar, which must be busy in warmer weather.

Great food, excellent menu, great service and attentive manager. Nice ambience inside. Cabins as well as seating outside. Definitely recommend it.

What a lovely surprise it was to find that this quirky pub had so much to offer, from very well organised different outdoor seating areas with a huge marquee, private huts to ample indoor seating are with rustic decor.

The service was carried out by friendly and warm stuff, and they catered for a variety of dietary requirements.

First visit to the Jovial Sailor. Easy access from northbound or southbound A3. Ample parking. Warm welcome from the staff sets the tone for excellence in customer service. The staff really don't stop and despite being a Sunday lunch time, they were fabulous. Covid-19 secure practices. Large indoor bar and dining area and large outdoor dining area much of which is covered by an extensive canopy à la O2 dome in Greenwich. On a very hot summer's day it was very welcome. Play area for younger kids. Excellent food choices for vegetarians and vegans which in these days of restricted menus was most welcome. The food was well cooked, well presented and was delicious. I can definitely recommend the BBQ jack(fruit) & cheese plant-based burger vegan option for those looking for a lighter meal and Jude's blood orange sorbet was deliciously frozen on a scorcher of a day. Everything is disabled-friendly (under the canopy is a slightly uneven surface). If you're in the area, give them a try. Hope to visit again.

We can here for a Christmas lunch and the food was very good! Nicely presented and perfectly cooked. The only negative was that a pint of diet coke cost £4.50 - is that a normal price for coke now?? I had salt and pepper squid, confit duck (stunningggg), and crumble.

We love going to the Jovial. The team are always absolutely lovely and go out of their way to make you feel as welcome as possible.
We popped down for Mother's Day and enjoyed the carvery with a group of 14.
Big shout out to James for helping with our numerous table size adjustments (and always with a smile), and to Mark for the food which was absolutely top notch!

We've not been here for a while so we rocked up yesterday for a late lunch, it was busy & we hadn't booked but we got a nice table inside. There's plenty of choice on the menu & the food was well presented & tasty. Despite eating too much I had to have the apple crumble. Our server Lauren was brilliant (as were all the staff) only downside was your coffee machine wasn't working but otherwise a great experience.

Had the Sunday Carvery today with family. WOW! Absolutely delicious! Would thoroughly recommend. Staff were lovely - couldn’t fault a thing. Love the layout - it’s quite a large pub but still feels cosy. We will be back!

Best carvery around, the meat options were great and cooked perfectly, lots of options for the trimmings and they kept them topped up, lovely undercover area in the garden with heated tables available. Lots of menu options at gastro pub prices. There's a children's playground which is completely fenced off in the pubs garden which is great for keeping the little ones entertained. They also have the heated huts in the garden which are perfect for outdoor dining in the colder months or you can keep the doors open and heating off in the summer months.
