A delightful pub outing in London! The cozy ambiance enveloped with warm hues and lively chatter. Each sip of ale infused with local flavors, accompanied by hearty pub fare. Engaging conversations with friendly locals, sharing stories and laughter, creating memories to cherish. A quintessential London experience!

The best fish and chips I’ve had ever. Mushy peas were buttery and to die for. Thick cut chips were perfectly seasoned and went well with the tartare sauce. Slaw was creamy and had the perfect amount of dressing.

Pairs brilliantly with an IPA.

Nice dock pub with plenty of specials , starters and variety of drinks. There are places to sit downstairs , at the bar , but also upstairs with a river view. Highly recommend when in London

A perfect spot for a quiet drink... which turned into an even better place to sit at the bar, have a beautiful wild mushroom stroganoff with a tasty malbec.
A buzzing atmosphere and friendly bar staff made for a very pleasant evening.

It was the best fish & chips I have ever eaten. My hubby joked with the chef, saying that his seabass was better than a very well-known fish restaurant in Sandbanks, Dorset. We will definitely return. The 2 barmaids were so nice, too.

No disabled toilet, though.

One of the most historic London pubs that still feels historic. Come on a weekday afternoon when you'll have time & space to soak up the atmosphere and have a snoop around. A great way to feel the power of the great River Thames.

It is one of the oldest pubs in London. Tiny little gem tucked away. Balcony overlooking the Thames and skyline of the city. The lady behind the bar couldn't have been far from interested in working here. I appreciate people asking to have a picture taken with Gandalfs staff, which can be quite tiresome. But it's a big thing to the LOtR's fans. The history of this place is just fantastic. Great pint of Guinness.

Nice old skool boozer. With added Middle Earth interest... Gandalfs staff hangs proudly behind the bar, ready to smite unruly orcs.

One of the best pubs I've visited. Very old traditional pub which backs on to the Thames. Very long history. Recommended.

My other half has always wanted to visit this little gem and at last he managed it.
Originally established in 1538, it has lots of history, a real little gem. Tiny inside but that just adds to the ambiance. There's an upstairs as well so it can accommodate quite a few.
Out the double doors at the back there is a small outside area where you can sit overlooking the Thames with clear views of Canary Wharf.
Sir Ian McKellen is the owner so you will find Gandolfs staff behind the bar and a few other bits that nod to his career.
A great place to include on any historic pub crawl, in a really lovely area it's worth a visit... 💯

What an experience. What a staple pub of London. The Gandalf Staph. The cheap pints. The slight smell of dew from the Thames. It is a no fuss pub to go and get an authentic no frills experience of what London pub culture should be-chill, opulent, good conversation, and a crisp pint. Favourite of locals and not too busy, grab a seat on the waterfront or inside. A must if you are a LOLR stan or just like good vibes x

Very decent pub, of which I am a big fan. Came for the pub quiz, would come back for the food and the views out of the back!

Great service! Fairly small pub, but I did love sitting outside under the heater listening to the waves 🫶

We came here because we are fans of Sir Ian who is part owner. The Dickens connections were a huge plus. But the best part was the amazing food and friendly, efficient service. It is the best pub food we have ever had! Kudos to the hard working team.

A classic riverside pub. Nice pub vibe, cosy feeling. It's a must for Lord of the Rings fans, because the pub is owned by Ian McKellen. The pub features several LOTR items.

There is a regular here named Chris. Buy him a Guinness. He is probably wearing headphones. Has a very infectious laugh.

ANYWAY. THE PUB.
Absolutely amazing pub. Waddled my way here on a Wednesday evening and had the time of my life. Going to a bar alone can be depressing but the staff and regulars here made me feel very welcome.
Good and pints was great. Top notch.

Fantastic in every way 👏 Lovely views, friendly staff, excellent food. Can't recommend it enough. If you're visiting the UK and want to try fish and chips, you must try it here. This is my now go to pub in London.

We are new to London. We went to pub which we stumbled upon when we took our dog for play to a nearby garden. We saw that the pub was established in 1583. It totally has the old world charm of a typical English Pub. Such a lively atmosphere and we felt very welcome. The decor is old style. The house recommended beers were great. We also had some fish and chips. The fish was good, the chips were great. It was filled with the locals and people were generally happy. A very interesting fact is that they hold a quiz every Monday at 8 pm which is well attended I am told. So if you visit the lime house area then The Grapes is definitely worth a visit.

Lovely pub - quite narrow and over 2 floors.
Choice of beer excellent. Tapas delicious and the main course was too.
No jukebox or TV (which I like) but various games ( Scrabble,Double etc) and books available.
Great view of the river. Just a small balcony as outside space.

We have been there couple of times for drinks but also for small plates but they do one of the best Sunday roast. The roast dinner it was ample, with well cooked beef and crispy but fluffy potatoes and plenty vegetables. The service was attentive and friendly staff. The pub is on the river and is one of the oldest on that stretch of the river. It has hot a lot of original fixtures with a small balcony overlooking Canary Wharf and the river. Also there's a small snug room upstairs.
