As someone else says, this place is odd and an interesting little cycle around. It's a big open concrete airfield that's gated at both entrances but has public footpaths and bridle paths crossing it. One end is used for dumping and burning stable manure and there's sometimes farm machinery set up to dry corn etc. In my times visiting Wisley airfield I've seen motorbikes, model airplane enthusiasts, kite flyers, police dog training and even film sets up there (War Horse was actually filmed there!) but usually it's just open, windy and very flat. If you're with your dog, Boldermere lake is just a short walk away as is Wisley common and the semaphore tower. Unfortunately the airfield does attract fly tippers around the edges, the odd nuisance type and has been the subject of being developed into an incinerator for years. I love to imagine this place how it was in the past though, with old Vickers aircraft arriving straight from Brooklands ready to be finished and made fit for war. I believe the Valiant was finished at Wisley. The lower concrete section was where the hangers used to be and if you've got a keen eye you can still make out some artefacts around the site. Enjoy and please don't drop litter.

Why the Crash Barriers across the runway?

Glad the developers didn't get their way, otherwise this place would be gone.
Many aircraft were built at Brooklands, transported here and finally assembled before being flown off to the war effort in Europe I've been told.
Interesting place but the only structures left standing is the radar/Comms back-up generator building and an aerial mast.

Tried to get in with bikes but is no longer possible. The airfield has been sold to a developer who is building 2100 houses.

This is a private site. Use of the runway by motorcycles constitutes trespassing and permission to use it will not be granted.

Crash barriers are there because it helps mark the public foot paths that are recognised by law off these footpaths one is in fact trespassing unless one has permission from site owners
