It cost £3 pound to park or it's free if your NTS members. The car park isn't very big and fills up really quickly. The toilets are beside the car park. The gardens are free but you have to pay to go in to the mansion. The price for admission is free for NTS members but it's pricey if your not a member for what you see. The staff could also do with training. When we were there 08/04 they seemed as if they would rather be elsewhere. The only exception was the first members of staff (didn't get her name unfortunately) after the entrance. She was able to give us information about the former owner and his family and how the mansion was redesigned. The gardens are really nice and well maintained and have kids games like putting and tennis. There is also a lovely walk round the grounds and you can look in to the laundry cottages or sit at the top of the garden and enjoy the view.

If you go on top of Hill of Tarvit or just wander on the grounds, there's lots to see, nice gardens, trees and more. All year round there is something different.
Try to catch the Tearoom (when it's open, seasonal opening times) nice and quaint, or just enjoy the wildlife or the Views.

Grounds only open for now - an elegant house set in a variety of beautiful Fife landscapes - extinct volcano, walled garden, woodland walks, parkland (inc golf course).
Peaceful, restful, just three minutes from Cupar.

One of our favourite places. Lovely team here and one of the best NTS properties locally for kids activities. When they were between kids trails for the interior a very nice American lady engaged the children and showed them interesting things. Last year (2016) the team did a superb pamphlet of things for the whole family to do at HoT. There was a fun garden party with a swing band, traditional games and a very good treasure hunt. ?Jan made the coconut shy himself. There is a hill to climb, walks, a tower (Scotstarvit) in the grounds, a large old fashioned laundry room in the grounds and a good tea room. No surprise it won a best visitor attraction award in Fife last year.
Update: May 2017: Informative 2 hour wildflower walk and talk with NTS Ranger Stuart. Did you know besides many woodland flowers that HoT has a wildflower meadow beside the golf course?

Lovely walk around the grounds today. Visited the Victorian Laundry. Maids were very hard working back in the day.

Stunning property with heaps of history & a collection of priceless possessions that belong to the mansionhouse. So much to see, from Chippendale to Ramsay to Raeburn and not forgetting the frogs in the bathroom!

Beautiful mansion and gardens. NTS property with very knowledgeable staff. I loved that we could give the historic games a try. Worth a visit; want to return to play hickory golf!

A lovely house to visit, small with a homely feel to it. All the room attendants were so friendly, they greeted everyone and were more than happy to chat and knowledgeably answer any questions about the house. The downside is that it doesn't have a cafe - I'd gone without checking and ready for brunch - but a quick trip into Cupar, approx 1.5 miles away, solved the problem. Tho I was able to buy a coffee from the golf club which is part of the house.

Really enjoyed our visit round this lovely house. A very odd mix of architecture inside due to is being built around antique collection. Very nice gardens and also home to a hickory club golf course.

It's a beautiful property, lots of helpful volunteers on hand to advise you about some of the rooms and very informative. It's a lovely size and many people including myself could see them living in the house. Staff encouraged visitors to have a game of billiards in the games room, and there are some interesting items which must have been ahead of their time such as a warming cabinet and heated towel rail. Good grounds and a golf course if you like that dort of thing. No tea shop but there are several not far away in Cooper itself so not a big deal.

Two excellent guides, Andy and Dan, brought the house to life for us.

The Hill of Tarvit Mansion ( National Trust) is really interesting for an Edwardian property. The 9 hole golf course in the grounds is special, you play with hickory circa 1920's clubs. Stunning views walking the grounds.

Nice little hill walk. Worth following up with a walk around Tarvit House to see the Estate and the variety of plants/flowers.
