Went for a birthday meal Sun 23rd Aug. The staff were amazing and couldn't have done any more for us. The food was lovely and well presented. We mostly had the Sunday roast and was offered a range of choices of meat. All produce was locally sourced, it was so tasty. Just a lovely meal out.

Excellent again. Friendly, efficient staff. Social distancing and Covid safety precautions in place. Food matches expectations. Would recommend a visit.

We popped in here without booking first and the hostess was gracious enough to sort a table for the four of us. We last visited before lockdown and were surprised to find it had changed hands and then we had the tapas grazing menu and wow, just wow!
The food is simply amazing.
Small plates packed with flavour and originality. Every mouthful a mix of tantalising tastes and complementary sensations when eaten together.
We chose a starter each plus 3 tapas dishes each. Obviously we tasted everyone elses dishes too, just mouthwatering. The salmon risotto was sublime, the pork belly crisp and perfectly matched with the apple sauce and chipotle slaw and the flank steak cooked to perfection.
The dessert, orange amandine was the perfect ending to this great food.
The hostess was lovely, really knowledgable and simply a lovely lady with a beautiful accent.
All of the staff were friendly, capable and helpful.
We sat outside watching the barges drift down the canal in the warm night. Going to organise a family visit for my mums birthday next.
Definitely give this little gem of a restaurant a try.

Today, we went to The Blue Mallard for lunch. However, we had an "agenda". Having looked at different venues for an event, we decided to look at this restaurant, sample the food, do some fact-finding and make a decision. This was easily achieved.

The set 2 and 3-course menu was not overly-long but, where it lacked in length, it certainly gained in content - excellent!

Our lunch was superb and it's clear why the chef (one of the two partners) has won a coveted Michelin award. The food was beautifully presented and now in our "the best we've ever tasted" group (and, believe me, we've been to some good restaurants).

We spoke at length with the other proprietors - a delightful, very knowledgeable and professional lady who certainly knows her stuff! She listened, advised, suggested, and was very impressive.

We have looked at the reviews about this restaurant and, since the new owners took over (approx 6 weeks ago), there have been some surprisingly negative reviews. Frankly, we can't understand it. Following our very positive experience today, we had no hesitation in going ahead with our booking and also booking for their French Evening later this month (after which I shall post another review).

To all those who have been influenced by the negative reviews, don't be! Go and make your own decisions. These things are, after all, very subjective. You won't be disappointed.

To the new owners, thank you so much for a lovely lunch.

I have been to the Blue Mallard on many occasions, for a wedding party, evening dinners and Sunday for early dinner. I have never been disappointed in the service and excellent locally sourced foods of all descriptions. The food is cooked and presented to a very high standard by excellent chefs. and not over priced. The ambience is very informal but very pleasing and the staff are professional friendly and extremely welcoming. I would and have recommended this restaurant to many people. This restaurant is a hidden gem- try it - you won't be sorry.

This place does not look fancy- although its very clean and tidy- and you could be forgiven for thinking it might not be anything special, but it is. The food is really great. There were lots of good veggie choices and the desserts were lovely. Staff were fabulous- so friendly and also very efficient.

I've been twice to the Blue Mallard this year. Once for a special meal with my wife and the second time for a birthday party for 15 people. Each time the experience has been excellent, with food to die for. Each visit has surpassed expectation with friendly helpful staff, for whom nothing is too much trouble. I travel a lot for business and eat out all over Europe on a regular basis, this has to be some of the best food I have tasted in a long long time. If you are in any doubt, just go; you won't be disappointed.

We recently had our wedding reception at The Blue Mallard, wow! The food was delicious, the venue looked beautiful and the staff were amazing and went out of their way to make sure everything was just perfect for our special day and made us feel safe in these Covid times. Us and our guests all truly had an amazing day, I would definitely recommend The Blue Mallard if you are looking for a wedding reception venue.

Can't thank Chris, Audrey and all the staff for helping us give my Dad an amazing send off after his funeral last Monday. The food was excellent, Audrey and all the staff were very attentive to our every need and they opened up especially for us on a day they would normally be closed. At the wake everybody commented on the quality of the food and the lovely surroundings. Thank you so much. Jan

excellent meal. Don’t listen or be put off by any negative comments, they are obviously used to weatherspoons food . The steak is one of the best steaks I’ve had in years, the place is spotless, and the staff couldn’t be friendlier if they tried.

My partner and I have been here several times and have never been disappointed. Every dish has been delicious whether it's a scrumptious Sunday lunch, a light bite, succulent steak or a themed night. We're going there again tonight and we really can't wait.

Lovely setting along side the canal at Burscough Warf. The staff are all so friendly and helpful. The menu has something for everyone and the food is excellent. Well presented dishes cooked to perfection with prices that don't reflect the quality you're getting. A superb three course Sunday lunch will only set you back £17.95, I can highly recommend the tasting of citrus from the dessert menu. The overall package is certainly deserving of an AA rosette.

Great restaurant in the wharf. Excellent, locally sourced food and attentive and pleasant service. We visit regularly, although we haven't been for a few months. We never feel rushed, which is a great attribute in my opinion. A couple of things - the guitarist you used to have on a Friday/Saturday night, please bring him back. He added to the atmosphere and was lovely to listen to whilst eating. Also, please keep the classics menu available at the weekend and hand it out with the normal menu. Sometimes you just feel like that type of food rather than al a carte. Hopefully we will be visiting again soon. Keep up the good work!

Just called in yesterday lunchtime and decided at the last minute to have something to eat. The menu had some lovely sounding sandwiches but we decided to go for one of the sharing platters. Watched the sandwiches coming out and almost regretted our decision. That is until our duck, ribs, chips, crispy onion rings and salad came. Absolutely delicious.

Wasn't very busy when we arrived but welcome was excellent along with the service. We were in a party of 5 and all said how they enjoyed the Steak's. It was steak night and the bill was more than reasonable. Will definitely be making another visit.
