We really enjoyed the atmosphere here. The building is beautiful inside and out. Some of the paintings are huge and we love the relief room. It was really nice to see students drawing around the building. Plenty of interesting and unique sculptures.

An architectural gem, an exquisite and exhaustive building housing a museum that displays vast art masterpieces from antiquity!! We were lucky enough to see the displays Les Waches by Vincent Van Gogh and Le Parliament de Londores by Claude Monet in an ocean of beautifully curated huge collection of art. The entry was luckily free for the day (usually the ticket charges are Euros 20 per head). Had a nice cloak room to hold your backpack or bags only.

The museum is quite interesting incorporating video games as part of its main collection. I love the Impressionist collection that the museum has. The sculptures are quite amazing as well. A video mapping in the lower level restoring the samples of the actual sculptures are very entertaining to watch as well.

Excellent museum in the heart of Lille that comprises several floors, unfortunately, due to the lack of time, I was only able to see the sculptures and pottery and the paintings. However, it was a great experience because the quality of the art is astounding. Here you will find works by Rubens, Goya, Monet and Ribera, among many others, apart from pottery from the most important porcelain factories in Europe, such as Meissen or Delft. An unmissable visit if you're in Lille. Highly recommend!

definitely worth visiting!
not only objects of art, but how masterly they arranged and presented! we liked a lot the "show of light" on the statue that shows the history. such a great idea!

there are also a lot of paintings, but probably it's not enough space for all of them and you have a feeling that they squeezed in and you cannot enjoy each one separately

with you ticket you can walk in and out the same day, that's quite convenient.

Enjoyable afternoon visiting here. The current exhibition of computer game design, linking it to the rest of the exhibits is very clever and helps make the design process of a game, and the study of historic art very relevant.
Worth a visit before it's gone.

So much fun! A well rounded museum with some great curators who made it accessible to children and people who normally do not like visiting art galleries. When I went everything was decorated with a video game theme, which must be great to get children interested, while still being fun for adults to experience.

A must visit when you’re in Lille. It’s free to enter and would take over an hour to look through all the wonderful paintings and sculptures.

Cafe and toilets are also available.

Very impressive museum, one of the largest museums in France with an outstanding international collection of masterpieces by Rubens, Van Dyck, Goya, Donatello, David, Monet and many more. In addition to paintings, the museum holds great exhibitions about history of different periods with exposition of statues, coins, old books etc. People who are interested in history can spend the entire day in this museum.

The thing that I would advice is to add more descriptions about certain time periods and countries. Many halls with amazing paintings do not have that many descriptions about the historical background and context of that time when the paintings were made, the reasons behind them etc.

Exhibition was really impressive. Connection between art and games/digital world also was really interesting. I’ve spent about an hour there with my friends and we really enjoyed it.

I especially want to highlight the relief room in the center of the -1 floor, which shows more than a dozen reliefs of cities in nothern france, belgium as well as Maastricht. I have never seen such an exhibition in any other museum. This museum also exhibits famous paintings on the top floor including Monet, brugel and similar calibers.

Currently there is a video game exhibition that is (also) placed alongside the permanent exhibition. Computee generated paintings are also exhibited alongside "real" paintings, which is a nice combination in my opinion and freshens it up a bit.

Many national galleries would struggle to match Lille for the breadth and quality of its collection. The building is a palace. The underground galleries contain the best medieval artwork collection I have ever seen - altarpieces, sculptures, paintings and coins. Upstairs, we saw many world-class paintings - Breughel the Younger, Goya, Velasquez, and Manet. The artwork is accessible, and the curation is low-key. Some galleries were closed when we visited - as was the cafe. Friendly staff. Worth a detour.

Definitely worth visiting. I especially liked the middle ages section. Almost empty on a weekday at the beginning of October.

The museum impressed with its submission. everything is presented with a reflection in modern culture. stands with serials (Medici, Hannibal, Dexter, etc.) next to paintings that are 5 centuries old. in the underground floor there is an amazing response to the TV series "Twin Peaks", an entire installation with the figure of Venus.

I will not list, because all this must be seen with your own eyes. Can only say that it is worth visiting since 2019, when the 3D panorama of the old city in the basement will be ready for the entire area of the museum.

there’s kids zone where you can left them and walk for an hours. also, here located museum geek store and coffee shop ☕

awesome!

I love this collection in Lille and try to visit whenever we're in town. There are good collections of middle age, early modern, XII, XIII and XIX art with also some interesting XX work. There is a significant sculpture hall and a hall of decorative arts, mostly ceramics. Interestingly in the basement are large scale 3d maps of frontier towns that I assume were for XII, XIII and XIX military planning. There's also a neat cafe on site so you can rest your legs!
