Gondar Backpackers

Great hostel with a nice atmosphere, kitchen and chill-out area, very clean and in a quiet location. The owner Melese also planned a tour to the Simien Mountains for us, which was a lot cheaper than other offers we could find online. Everything was taken care of for us, transport, guide, guardes, excellent food, tents and sleeping bags! Really highly recommended if you want to experience the Simien Mountains stress-free.

We really enjoyed the location, tho it's a bit off the city center it was perfectly quiet and a needed contrast to the crowded cities for us.

One of the nicest hostels I’ve stayed in Ethiopia. Really clean, big dorms, comfy mattresses. The common area is massive with mattresses on the floor to hangout, well equipped kitchen. The hostel is up in the hills and the views are amazing esp at sunrise and sunset

The best place to stay for backpackers! It was the only time during our trip in Ethiopia that we met a lot of great people where we were staying, everyone was hanging out together and the owners helped us SO much with the organization of our trip! It was all clean and amazing to sit on the terrace.

Great place, friendly hosting. Clean bedrooms. The place is brand new, nice view from there. You can meet other travelers. Also can get tips from the staff for locations and where to travel around. In the kitchen you have all you need to prepare lunch or dinner.

The place is clean, beds are comfortable, but what really made it extraordinary was the kind hosts. They went out of their way to help us with planning and tours and with everything you can imagine. They are passionate about creating an affordable place to stay in Gonder. So grateful to them.

A little bit out of the center of Gonder but definitely the best hostel around. Great vibe, kind staff/owner and clean rooms. Very good for the buck! Highly recommend it.

Daleko od centrum. Tuk Tuk do zamków za 100 BIRR. Ekipa bardzo pomocna. Obecnie mają problem z wodą (luty 2024).

Notre séjour s'est très bien passé. Les hôtes sont adorables, les lieux sont très propres, jolis, calmes, et cela a été une bonne base pour nous pour organiser nos excursions et la suite du séjour grâce aux conseils d'Ofel.
Vous pouvez acheter des aliments de base pour cuisiner sur place pour pas cher.
Le prix est un petit peu élevé par rapport à d'autres logements que nous avons pu avoir dans d'autres villes mais vous pouvez y aller les yeux fermer.

Genial sitio para pasar tus días en Gondar. Buen precio, cerca de una calle llena de restaurantes, a un paso de dónde se pillan los buses para ir al centro histórico.... Los dueños son super amables y atentos. Por poner pegas podría decirse que el desayuno, pero por los precios que ofrecen tampoco hay que ser tiquismiquis

No és cèntric però té el bus al costat (5bir), a la universitat. El mateix propietari organitza excursions al Simiens a bon preu, no és intermediari (Simien mountains outstanding nature tours).

Decent Backpackers. The owner Melashu is very helpful and can help arrange tours or give advice on Simien Mountains. He is happy to arrange a whole tour, just a car or advise regarding independent tours. You can also leave your bike or motorcycle at the hostel. I left my bike there for 3 days.

Biggest issue at the hostel is water. They fill up huge jugs twice daily and add to the tank on site. Usually at night the tank runs dry and there is no water at night so try to account for that. maybe fill up a bucket for your self during the day for night time or have some water bottles.

The place was relatively expensive for Ethiopia standards, no warm shower was available and no water at all at night. We couldn't manage to get in at night as noone answered the door and we had to jump over the wall. The location is a bit far from everything but nice and quiet at night. We tried to pay with credit card, it did not work but then we were charged 2 Euros two times after we left and the amount wasn't returned although we complained. Wi-Fi was not working. The common kitchen was good. And we realized that they did not change the sheets when we visited again to take something we forgot in the room although it was occupied.

Andthe hostel is far from the ceneter 10 km meters better to stay in the ceneter because this is very dark place and taxi
