Lodge Du Chateau - Gonder - Ethiopia

A great charming and cozy place perfectly located in close to all the important sights in the city. Divine breakfast and an amazing and helpful host.

Simon was the most kind and helpful host during our 2-nights at the lodge. He borrowed us warm jackets for the mountains and prepared the most delicious breakfast for us. Highly recommended to anyone visiting Gondar!!

A wonderful small lodge, clean, peaceful, a place you can truly sleep and be at peace. A great breakfast place on a terrace, again quite, unassuming but a great way to start your day in the great city of Gonder. Should I need to stay in a hotel in Gonder again, this will remain my first choice.

I'm surprised to see any ratings less than 5/5! When I lived in the Amhara region this was my absolute favorite place to stay. The owner will treat you like family, the location is incredible, the food is amazing, and the view from the balcony while drinking your buna in the morning is unmatched. I would HIGHLY recommend staying here.

We stayed for two nights. The room was comfortable and clean and we slept well. Breakfast is a choice from a menu such as eggs, pancakes or porridge. The eggs were served with fresh bread and kept us going all morning. WiFi worked well, and the hot water was fine - you just needed to make sure it had been turned on to heat up (we had to figure this trick out the second morning!).
Airport transport is available, but is not included in the room price. Unfortunately, our collection from the airport was forgotten, but is was easy enough to negotiate with a taxi.
Location is fantastic - it's easy to walk to the castles, good restaurants and town centre.
Service was great - nothing was too much trouble - and Simon made us feel very welcome. They can arrange a variety of activities for you, such as excursions into the mountains, cooking classes, hair braiding for women, but we didn't take any of those up as we only stayed a short time.
Highly recommended.

The Lodge du chateau is a small oasis in the center of Gonder perfectly situated right next to the castle, and a close walk to ATMs and restaurants. They offer nice, clean rooms and friendly and attentive staff that gave us a really personal and warm visit. They have plenty of good tips and tricks, do’s and don’ts that are well worth listening to when it comes to sightseeing, restaurants and hiking in the Simien mountains. They try hard to show them Ethiopian hospitality, and it shows!
Downsides are a sometimes sketchy internet connection, and that they only take cash.
The stay feels safe, relaxed and is well worth a visit!

Our stay at the Chateau du Lodge was excellent from all view points. Ideally located in the heart of Gondar, managed by extremely kind and attentive staff. I would definitely recommend and would very much like to come back there in the future.

One of my favourite places in Ethiopia. Seyoum is an amazing host, from the free airport shuttle to the delicious breakfast on the unbeatable terrace. It's a wonderful, homely place, ideally located for exploring Gondar.

One of the best places to stay in Gondar. Comfortable rooms, a great view, especially during sunrise, and a great breakfast make this a great base from which to explore the town.

Best place to stay in Gondar. Service is wonderful. when there was no water on Gondar, Lodge du chateau gave us hot showers.

Een geweldige plek om te verblijven in Gondar! Ja de muren zijn misschien wat dun en de badkamer eenvoudig, maar dat wordt allemaal driedubbel goedgemaakt door het lekkere bed, de binnentuin vol met vogels en het enorm verse en lekkere ontbijt, het beste ontbijt wat we hebben gehad in vier weken reizen door Ethiopië!! Maar het meeste wat ons bij bleef is de gastvrijheid en zorg die we hebben ontvangen, een ervaring die we nooit meer zullen vergeten. Echt een aanrader.

Le cadre et la position sont excellents. Vue sur les murailles de l'enceinte royale, et sur les montagnes de l'autre côté. Le propriétaire est très avenant et attentif. Petit déjeuner exceptionnel !
