We went here for some afternoon snacks. There was some queue outside this award-winning confitería but we were seated after a couple of minutes. Their interior is like a museum and is already a treat for the eyes. They have a great selection of pastries and cakes. You can never go wrong with their famous torrijas and cappuccino pairing. Highly recommended! Don't miss it with you are in Madrid!

Stopped here on a food tour. My cortado was really good, but what really set this apart from other cafes was the hot chocolate and pastries. The hot Chocolate was rich and thick but not too sweet. You may not be able to drink it all, but that’s ok - it makes a great dip for the Bartolillo pastries we ate. It will be very busy on weekends, but the atmosphere is great, as this cafe is very old. Certainly a top place in this touristy area where there are many cafes that are just average.

Great bakery with a lot of choices. They have everything here from cakes to cookies to pastries to Italian and Spanish deserts. Very cool part of history as well as the founder of this establishment used to bake exclusively for the queen and then decided to bake for the people. It has been handed down to employees over the decades.

The hot chocolate was amazing, it was rich, thick & not too sweet. The Ladyfingers, or sponge fingers when dipped in the hot chocolate taste divine. Service was average.
Savory pastries were also very good especially the spinach and cheese one

Stop to shop the exquisite sweet pastries, then head back to the tea shop for ☕ con leche, a savory pasty, and one of each of the pastries you just saw! 🥐🍰🍮

A new favorite! I visited this place to try the pastry and chocolate. Both are outstanding! You can order at the front for take away. Or, you can go further in for the chocolate and more. I took away a box of pastry from here to enjoy back at my hotel and share with friends. Put this place on your list of stops. Very convenient location close to the Plaza Mayor.

One of the best and traditional place in Madrid to enjoy bakery.
Suizos, lazos, torrijas, croissants, pastas de té, milhojas, chocolate, café, te…

Do not forget to have a coffe/te here, is a must in Madrid… it’s open since 1855!!!

Best pastry shop in Madrid! We went there every morning for our coffee-and-pastry breakfast, and our waiter, Angel, was top-notch. We will be back.

Really liked this place. Went there for "pre-lunch" sweet snack and the palmeras cake along with the espresso were both very tasty. The staff there is friendly and kind and can more or less chat in English. The prices are indeed affordable and the overal atmosphere of the place in the city centre is just great! Sitting outside not possible.

Thick hot chocolate 🍫 and pastries!

A pastry shop with nice thick hot chocolate. We tried torrija de leche, which was like a little flaky croissant stuffed with vanilla cream.

Beautiful antique pastry shop. The service was fantastic. Lovely for buying sweet treats to go as they wrap them with a lot of care. Obviously delicious too (otherwise it wouldn’t be a 150+ year old shop)

One of Europe’s legendary classic Cafés, purveyor to the royal court. Delectable baked goods in a Old World setting.

Absolutely beautiful chocolate and pastry shop!

Their hot chocolate and soletillas were fantastic and the hot chocolate is made from melted chocolate rather than powder! Unless you are both chocolate lovers then I would get one to share. The hot chocolate is rich and delightful and the ornate decoration inside transports you to a different and traditional time.

One of the best experiences we had in Madrid

At the recommendation of a YouTube travel blogger, I finally tried out this wonderful place for hot chocolate and soletilla. The hot chocolate is made from melted chocolate bars rather than powder like other places. We came here after lunch so there wasn't a lot of people around, which is good. We took the time to relax and savour the hot chocolate. It was really good. I thought the soletilla would be crunchier but it's more bread-like (to soak up the hot chocolate).

The service was friendly even with my broken Spanish.

Truly authentic local breakfast experience of a pasty and coffee. The interiors are historically aesthetic (don't take any photos without permission though) and an array of sweet treats for you to choose from. All very good, but needed some coffee to wash it down. Love the custard and cream buns, very light and very inexpensive!

Beautiful piece of food history. Purportedly where the Spanish royal family catering is sourced from.

Had a coffee and sponge cake here.
