Amazing Churros and chocolate truffles. If you’re in Madrid, definitely a must try.

The churros are thin and crispy which are to be dipped in hot chocolate. Decadent and tasty. You can even try the Churros by themselves (I did that) and it makes it for a savory item.

Great staff as well. Very sweet and always willing to accommodate.

Seating arrangement may seem tight but you will always find room to sit because the staff makes sure you do =].

The oldest and definitely the best churros place in Madrid. Original taste at a good price. You can choose from normal churros or bigger ones - porras served with real chocolate. The place is constantly busy, but you can sit inside or outside.

Their churros are the must-try items in Madrid and Spain!! All are freshly made, and thus not oily for foreign visitors. They also contain the special taste and crispy.
Their chocolate is served in warm temperature and definitely has the top ranking in Spain because of its balanced cocoa flavour.
Highly recommend this cafe for Madrid visitors but need to be cautious about its opening hours. It is closed at 6:00 am during the New Year Eve (i.e 2 Jan) though it states it’s open 24/7 throughout the whole year.

Chocolatería San Ginés in Madrid is a chocolate lover's paradise! Not that I am a fan of churros but this shop is iconic for its crispy churros and hot chocolate! It is good to find time for it and stop by, it is one of the many pieces of Madrid‘s warming atmosphere. Very easy to find, meters away walking distance from Plaza Mayor! The atmosphere is a little bit bustling and very basic but the service is very swift and efficient.

Best Churros I have ever had so far. Not oily and perfectly made. Even without the chocolate, I would enjoy it. We went on a holiday but the line wasn’t that long because they handle the customer lines so amazingly. They have different stores in the area and it seems you can line up each place to order. Then when you order for dine in, they have a line where you wait to be seated then the staff assists you on your seat. Very efficient and quite an enjoyable experience for us.

Yes, absolutely give this place a try! So much fun! The chocolate is delightful, thick and creamy and churros are not overwhelmingly sweet but crunchy and fresh. It’s such a great combo! And the place is very cute, decorated with pics of famous people that visited it. We went there almost every day of our trip. Great experience.

WOW - if you love chocolate then this is a must when visiting Madrid. We tried both the small and large order of churros with a large cup of hot chocolate and it was unbelievable. The place can be very crowded at times, but we were able to find a seat close to the front of the store. The staff was very friendly, and the service was great. Have to say by the time we left our table we had our fill of chocolate. Everything tasted great and if we are ever back in Madrid, we will be here again. Our visit was in early April 2023 during Semana Santa Week.

A historic place soon to celebrate 130th anniversary in 2024. You can find a simple but tasty churros and porras. Very traditional and not at all greasy. Coffee tasted good too. One place to visit if you’re in Madrid!

The best place in Madrid to get churros! During Christmas and New Year time you need to wait maybe 10 max 15 minutes to get a place but you will get a great churros and chocolate! This will compensate you the time! I recommend to go there! Each time I am in Madrid for me it is simple a must!

TL;DR Version: Best churros and chocolate in Spain! Great value also and super fast service.

Food - WHAT A DECADENT DARK HOT CHOCOLATE! I have to admit that before this place I was a little let down by the standards of the hot chocolate that was served with Churros across multiple places but San Ginés just blew our mind. Absolute must visit!

It's a must try just for the novelty I feel, stand in the line just for the experience and you can get a takeaway and sit outside on a step (just like loads of other people and experience the warm churros in the really decadent hot chocolate. The portion is large, so potentially share I would say, unless you feel up to eating it all. There is a system in place to get orders, especially the takeaways done as quickly as possible, just be patient and polite I would say. The service and staff were great and friendly.

Heard a lot about this place so we decided to give it a chance.

As soon as we entered without letting us sit down the waiter asked what we would like to take and we needed to choose and pay before sit. It was a bit strange for me but ok.

We took 2 hot tea to warm up in this cold weather and hot cioccolate with 6 churro’s. The order came very fast.

Churros was very tasty, hot and as they needed to be. Delicious. Also they have a lot of drinks to offer. Don’t know about food if they have something else than churros because we didn’t see even a menu.

Very calm and comfortable place to sit and have a coffee break after a long walk.

Tasty hot chocolate, It has been ages since I had some thick hot chocolate and this one hit the spot. Maybe a bit too sweet for my taste, but I am avoiding sugar as much as possible.

The churros were good, they combined well with the chocolate, however I have had better. But don’t let that discourage you!

Ordering is a bit confusing especially if your not fluent in Spanish. The staff was was friendly and helpful though. The churros were delicious and not coated in sugar like the Mexican version. The chocolate was rich and not over sweetened. Great spot to grab a snack and take a break in Madrid.

If you consider eating golden, crispy Spanish churros with hot chocolate a sin, then you can sin every day. In Madrid, the place to sin is at Chocolateria San Gines. This Madrid dessert icon, open since 1894, is open daily, seven days a week. During the day the place is full of curious tourists, but late at night and after a stormy night of reflection, the locals begin or end their morning in the chocolatheria. This mansion was built as a hotel and hostel, but a few years later it became a churros making establishment using a traditional technique called a "homb".
From the day it opened, the chocolatery became a favorite place for theatergoers who came in after the performance to drink hot chocolate and churros, as evidenced by the many photographs on the walls. In the first decades of the twentieth century, when all the cafes on the Puerta del Sol closed, this was the only nearby open place where you could eat something hot and freshly prepared. The success of hot chocolate with churros is the result of a centuries-old tradition. Near Plaza Mayor in the San Gines alley, away from the hustle and bustle, the famous chocolate bar is hidden. Here you can enjoy everything on the menu.
And yet, hundreds of people come here every day to try the best hot chocolate with churros in the capital. The chocolate is made using our own recipe and can be purchased in takeaway packages. You can also get churros to take away. Queues at the chocolate shop are a common occurrence. Some people, seeing a long line, do not dare to come in. And in vain. The system, which has been proven over the years, allows us to quickly serve many visitors. The line moves very quickly. Feel the spirit of Madrid - drink chocolate in a historical place. A custom that reaches its peak on New Year's Eve.

A not to be missed place. Tasty churro to dip in chocolate sauce. Get the 6 churros with hot chocolate. Great vibe seating outdoor. Line for table can be long if during busy time.

These were the best, lightest, most delicious churros I've ever had. The dark chocolate is what distinguishes San Gines from other chocolaterias. I could drink the chocolate dip and would have licked the cup (if no one was watching). Don't be intimidated by the line, if you are interested in trying the food don't wait to be seated. You can order and they will serve you immediately and you can stand and eat your churros and drink your coffee at the bar area. We were in and out very quickly.

Delicious churros very light and fluffy, chocolate is rich and perfect for dipping them Into or drinking on its own.

A bit confusing upon arrival as there are multiple entrances/locations but it makes for quicker service when busy! Also staff were very helpful
