Bodega Txakoli Aizpurua

Excellent txakoli winery a short walk up the hill from Getaria, taking the escalator up past the Balenziaga museum and then lift to the top level, and then about 10 minutes up the road past the cemetery, looking for a sign. Three is a special variety of txakoli slightly aged in oak, only available at the winery itself.

This is a hidden gem along the Basque Coast, situated in the hills above Getaria. Jon was our host, he showed us the vines that their Txakoli is made from with some being over 100 years old. He then took us inside where we sampled several varieties directly from the barrels while Jon explained the differences and characteristics of each. Finally he took us upstairs to the terrace which overlooked the hillsides above Getaria where he prepared us local anchovies, tuna, and olives from around the Basque country. Overall this was a superb experience, not only were the Txakolis delicious but Jon's an amazing host able to converse with us not only about about the wines but also on Basque culture. He gave us numerous suggestions on other activities to do in the area and offered his help in anyway he could while we stayed in the area. He is passionate about Aizpurua's Txakolis's but also about sharing the culture with visitors. If you are in the area this is a must do! We stumbled upon this rustic vineyard that sits above the quaint seaside town of Getaria. This proved to be a fruitful mishap as Jon, our host, gave us a fantastic tour.

Jon is clearly passionate about the vineyard and gave great insight into the grapes and the art of producing txakoli.

We started with a tour of the vines and then moved onto a tasting from the vats. To finish the tour, Jon prepared some local delicacies for us to enjoy on the terrace while we washed these down with some more txakoli.

A great experience, I would highly recommend and visit. Jon was a fantastic host! And it was a very reasonable price!

Jon was very happy to fit in a tour for the two of us, even though we only rang a day ahead. The setting was beautiful and the tour included seeing the vines, tasting txakoli from the barrel and tasting more txakolis along with local food on the sunny terrace.

Jon was very informative and helpful and even booked a restaurant for us in the town and dropped us off right outside after the tour!

Excellent host, great value for money and lots of Txakoli. Would highly recommend.

Great experience and meeting with Bodega Aizpurea and Jon Olinden! Got an excellent tour in the wineyards and in the bodega. Tasting directly from the steel barrels and then as well comparing three different Txakoli wines plus snacks on the terrace! Good wines and very friendly host, thanks a lot!

We were lucky enough to find Txakoli AIzpurua in our recent trip to the Basque Country. Jon was my contact when planning, and gave us a thorough tour in English, relaxing snack on the seaview terrace, great tastings straight from the fermentation tanks, and a rich education on Txakolina wine and Basque Country.

Jon also helped us after the Bodega tour by recommending the Acantilado Flysch nearby and helped us schedule an incredible Cider House visit near San Sebastian a few days later.

My mother, sister, and I happily found this delicious winery during our trip down the coast between San Sebastián and Bilbao. We came late in the day and expected maybe to try a wine or two. But what we got was so much more - an incredible tour of the old vines, tasting directly from the barrels and then a paired tasting of Txakoli with local fish - all while overlooking the gorgeous hills and ocean above Getaria. I look forward to finding this wine in the US as Aizpurua expands its US exports and encourage any visitors to the area to find this gem.

We had a fantastic experience here. We were met by Jon who took us on a very relaxed and personal experience of the winery. He gave us lot's of his time. We had tasty food to accompany the wine overlooking Getaria. We would highly recommend this experience to others.

Tres amigos hemos elegido esta txakolindegi a 5 minutos del mismo centro de Getaria. Nada podría haber ido mejor! La oportunidad de ver el viñedo de cerca, la cata de sus tres txakolis en su enorme terraza con unas vistas alucinantes y el trato excepcional de Jon, además de flexible y cercano. Wir waren sehr spontan zu den angezeigten Öffnungszeiten dort ohne Anmeldung. Trotz sprachlicher Barrieren (unser Spanisch ist sehr dürftig) haben wir in sehr freundlicher Atmosphäre Txakoli kaufen können. Sehr gute Qualität! Vielen Dank!

Mi pareja y yo queríamos visitar una bodega de txacolí y hacer una cata, llamamos a Jon y sin ningún problema nos dijo que si! Nos explicó todo el proceso desde la vendimia hasta el embotellado. Nos dejó probar los 3 tipos de txacolí. La verdad que los 3 eran muy buenos! Además nos gustó mucho el txacolí que no le añaden sulfitos, además de estar muy bueno es mas ecológico. Fue todo un acierto visitar la bodega Aizpurua y Jon fue muy didáctico y cercano.

Puso muchas facilidades para adaptarse a nuestros horarios y nos acogió estupendamente en su bodega.

Muy buenos vinos. Degustamos varios txakolis, para mi el Aialle es excelente. Hicimos una visita guiada con Jon, que es un crack. La degustación que hicimos en la terraza con toda la vista de Getaria al fondo, fue de 10.

Vinos muy interesantes hechos con uvas autóctonas. Buena variedad de vinos para todos los gustos. La cata, las vistas y la atencion han sido estupendas! Visita obligatoria por esta zona o para cualquier amante de vino. TOP!

Para mi paladar es el mejor txakoli de getaria ,en su día lo tuvimos en nuestro bar ,pero ojalá lo podríamos tener otra vez sois los mejores

Un Txacoli de primera calidad. Merece una visita para contemplar las viñas y degustar las tres clases de Txacolina. No olvides llevarte unas botellas para disfrutar el fin de semana con los amigos. Seguro que volverás!
