Restaurante El Soportal

Dinner was surprisingly delicious! We didn’t expect a lot knowing it’s a major tourist location, but the food and service was great. We had eggplant fries( they should be careful and not fry them in the same oil as the calamari, I think they might as there was a hit of squidishness!). The little lamb chops were yummy, the roasted pork very tasty and moist. The potatoes were great and my husband the Flan connoisseur said it was excellent!

This is the kind of restaurant that deserves to be in a location like the La Plaza Mayor.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. They put up the large parasols when the sun came over the Plaza and they have the mist jets attached to cool you down. You get a very nice view of the Plaza and can see all the people on tours, people dressed up etc.

The food was really nice and big portions. I had the Tortilla with potato and chorizo. It was very big and came out at €12 but it can feed 3 or maybe 4 people. My fiancé had the roast beef sandwich which was also €12 and, again, very generous portion with amazing chips/fries.

The coffee is great (we had 4!) the orange juice was sooooo nice and I also had a beer.

All in all, it came out at around €50 but we had breakfast and had leftover for lunch easily!!!

The only place to go in this wonderfully lively square with many options.

The best place to enjoy the view, have some snacks and have fun with friends around Plaza Mayor. Me and my friends arrived by lunch (2pm) and left at around 9 pm. Tino is the best waiter and he treated us very well since we arrived, with a very nice sense of humor. His and the overall Spanish warmth is certainly one of the reasons I love this place and will certainly be back soon!

Please disregard all 1 star reviews. The best meal we have had in Madrid yet. Simple, tasty, delicious and filling. Try the prawn & clam spaghetti and the cochinillo pork - absolute game changers. Service was excellent and prices were very reasonable.

Had the most beautiful afternoon at Restaurante El Soportal. We joyously devoured nearly every dish on the menu - every dish stood out, but we particularly loved the croquettes, the albondigas, the shrimp ajillo - definitely don’t skip the seafood paella. Tomás and the entire staff took amazing care of us, I would recommend a stop on Plaza Mayor in your Madrid travels!

Let me tell you about this steak. This. Food. Is. Amazing. They bring you an endless supply of hot plates to sear your own steak to your liking. Staff was helpful, great and friendly. Remodel is amazing, definitely worth the price.

Haven't yet come across any great food in the Plaza Mayor.
Soportal was much better than yesterday elsewhere in the square as the staff were much nicer.
Nothing is cheap here or in the nearby markets

We just visited Madrid for the second time & decided we couldn't resist going back to this particular restaurant in Plaza Mayor. We have tried a few in the square but when you're paying a premium for location you really want to be wowed by the food & for us, we want authentic Spanish cuisine & that's where El Soportal comes through. If you're looking for traditional dishes & flavours we recommend the Entrecote de Vaca [basically a beef steak] and the Rabo de Toro [bulls tail]. Melt in your mouth so tender and full of flavour! The prices certainly reflect the location but honestly you have to expect that if you want to dine in any square in any city in the world! The atmosphere and feeling of sitting in Plaza Mayor, enjoying some drinks while tucking into some yummy Patatas Bravas - totally worth it! For a truly authentic Spanish dining experience with quality meats and delicious Spanish dishes, I recommend it!

My partner and myself came here for lunch and drinks while on holiday and it is one of the nicest places we have been, everyone is so friendly and made us feel so welcome. The food and drink is amazing, highly recommend coming here! x

Had friends from USA visiting and wanted to take them to a traditional restaurant on an iconic location of madrid. The food and service was beyond my expectations as a local. 👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼

El arroz meloso con oxtail can’t go wrong with it I came back and eat it twice
