One of the best options for a day trip from Barcelona. Make your way to Montserrat as early as possible and spend a few hours in the area to enjoy the beauty of the town and its magnificent views.
The travel to the town is enjoyable as well though you might be pretty exhausted on your return to Barcelona.
Walking tracks are amazing and freshen you up.
Unlimited options for visiting both in the town and in its surroundings.
Highly recommended.

We walked all the way from the village to the top and took 2/5 hours. The beautiful landscape was amazing. We went there in December and weather was great. You will pay 8 euros for the church and going to the second floor. And you need 3 more hours to visit all the around and climb to the peak.

What an incredible trip this is by train and then special mountain railway from Barcelona. The Scenery is absolutely breathtaking. I urge you to please make this day trip for an unforgettable experience. The history of the monastery and town drag you back in time.Marvel at the beauty of the statue of the Black Virgin in the ancient monastery church. You will most likely have to queue to touch her,as is the custom. There are quaint little funicular carriages which will ferry you to awesome viewpoints. There are beautiful restaurants and shops. You need a full day to appreciate everything. Day package tickets can be bought from all the travel stands on Las Ramblas in Barcelona City.

Stunning and beautiful place! The sights of the mountains are marvelous, and there's a lot of things to do in this general area. It's quite touristy, but it's definitely worth going if you want to see something amazing. I recommend taking a train here, because there's a train station in the middle of the busy area of this place.

It’s a good half day trip From Barcelona. Views are amazing, you can take a guide for understanding the history of this place .Pre book your tickets to the church or you wont be able to visit it. There is small hike for the cross and top of Sant Joan. You can also take a funicular for Sant Joan Top if you have limited time. Must Buy the Fresh Honey and cheese by the Local villagers.

This place was amazing, a must see when visiting Barcelona. Take the walk out to St. Michaels Cross, the views are worth it but be warned it is a cobblestone path but some parts have a bit of a steep incline.

Really nice place and surroundings. It is very touristy but it's still worth the visit. There are a lot of walks around, where you can see the beautiful mountain surroundings, but give it some time. Some of the hikes and walks can be pretty challenging.

The train and cable car (recommend taking this option because the views are nice) were 24.5€.

Recommend visiting the information centre before starting the walks so you can get a map.

Spent our 2nd day in BCN at the Monserrat monastery. It was a fantastic tour of the place where one can find the Most Blessed Black Madonna. The sanctity of this place is overpowering with the majestic backdrop of serrated mountain ridges completing the picturesque wonder.

Wonderful and memorable experience for hiking on Motserrat! You can catch a train in a center train station and buy a Montserrat 2 way ticket at 25€/person. You will need to change the other train to go to the top and it’s better to take a train because the views are amazing. A day trip to discover the architecture, nature and culture of Spain. Must try and worth to go!!! Highly recommended! 🤩

The Most holiest place to visit. It’s overwhelming views and beautiful monastery. We’re so grateful to experience the service at the main sanctuary with boys’ choirs. Highly recommend!!

Another must to see, absolutely stunning. Book to go through and see the Black Madonna . You can’t capture how incredible it is. Unfortunately we didn’t get to see the choir perform.

Breathtaking views! Beautiful monastery. We have enjoyed every minute of it. I have purchased a tour with a hotel pick up from Pineda de Mar and a couch brought us to a train station, from we took a train up to the mountain to the monastery. It was €65 each with a transport, multilingual guide, audio visual and a liquor tasting.
If you want to walk around, I would advise to wear a comfortable shoes, as lots of steps and stone paths on the way, but absolutely gorgeous views. You can buy some lovely souvenirs, liquor and food too. Cheese, in particular, was so delicious.

Magical place. A beautiful monastery, a statue of the Virgin of Montserrat, an amazing choir of boys who study at the music school at the monastery. And of course, the stunning mountain Montserrat with amazing views. On the territory of the monastery there is a video-audio museum where you can listen to history of the monastery, see how the monks live and what they do every day. For both religious and non-religious people, visiting the Madonna at Montserrat Monastery will be a spiritual and rewarding experience. Before you see the statue, you will need to stand in line, among the waiting ones in which there will be many pilgrims - the atmosphere there is very exciting. I recommend this place❤

A perfect day trip away from the busy city, yet not too far away and easy to get to. We contemplated to join a tour which provided transportation by car, but at the end both car and train take about the same amount of time ~1 hour or so. We opted for the train at our own pace.

The ~15 minutes hike to the St. Michael’s cross is a MUST. It’s where the magic located, absolute postcard view point looking back at the monastery of Monserrat. The trail is sort of unevenly paved with pot holes. No special footwear required. Plenty of shades. Doable with children. The trail starts right behind the info centre.
