Well worth the ascent to get here. My wife and I agreed that this is one of the best medieval castles we have visited. It is in great condition. Plus, it is FREE!
Glorious views of Alicante all of the way up. And when you ascend to the top, even better!
I would probably recommend wearing stout shoes or trail shoes as some surfaces are not totally suitable for flip-flops, etc.
There are toilets, refreshments plus a nice gift shop.

Take the elevator from the beach. Don't follow Google maps. It will bring you up, but the entrance is close to the beach. The ticket costs 2.7 euros and you will be at the castle in less than 10 minutes. Stunning views from there and worth visiting

Free entrance. 360° views over the city and beaches. Entrance is through the museum shop. Toilets and kiosk & bar to get drinks. The recommended route could be a bit more clear. Some parts with stairs should be made more clear for people in wheelchairs. Safes them going back again. Views are stunning. Missed more guidance

It's a must see if you visit Alicante. Beautiful views from the top. If you can go around 9am is best, after that it gets busier and busier and the queue for the elevator can get really long.

A steep climb from the old town but worth doing if you are able. Free to get in and fabulous views from the top. Several cafes, toilets and it’s quite a large site with plenty of information in Spanish and English. There is a paying entrance from the town at the bottom of the hill. They are also car parks close to the castle not sure if you have to pay for these though.
Well worth visiting

This is one of the main attractions in Alicante, and it's well worth the visit. The walk isn't easy, as it's uphill all the way and then downhill on the way back. However, there are plenty of lovely rest spots, so be sure to take refreshments to enhance the experience and enjoy the magnificent views. Additionally, there is a small shop at the top for light refreshments.

Some great views in every direction. It was difficult to work out how to get up to the castle but got there eventually, after a very warm, uphill walk. Lots of steps and steep slopes, so not great for people with mobility issues, although there does appear to be some support services on site.

Definitely a must visit when visiting Alicante.

Terrific 360° views on Alicante and surroundings. Historical fortress from Spain's Muslim period. Possible to walk up, but there is also an elevator for €3. Opens at 10 am, last admittance at 5.30 pm.

I had heard there are usually a big crowd, but I visited here during early November which is perfect weather for walking without crowds. It also turned out to be a perfect timing, because when I reached the top, it was beautiful sunset both on the ocean and the city view with mountains background, also with all those seagulls roaring in the sky. I brought my dog, so I was only permitted to walk around the outdoor area, but really worth it!

The highlight of Alicante.
We visited this castle twice - the first at sunset, and the next day at the afternoon, just to take in the views of Alicante.

Hiking up to the castle was such a delight - the views are magnificent, and in a way, it reminded me of a the hike up the city walls of Kotor, Montenegro.

For those not keen of hiking, there's also the lift option, costing less than 3 Euros per person.

If you come to Alicante, this is the spot you really cannot miss. The views are magnificent.

Amazing views. It is good to take the elevator from the main road along the coast which in 2 minutes will take you above for 2.7 e. There is a small bar in the castle where you can grab a beer or some snack.

Alicante must visit site🌟. It is free to enter, the castle 🏰 is huge.
You have to walk up the hill 🚶but it is worth it every minute 😍.
Bring with you a bottle of 💧🍶.
You will love ❤ the panoramic view of Alicante.
Enjoy it! 🙌

This is a great place to visit, the pathways to the castle remains are basically very good and the steepness of the climb is nicely reduced making it a good cardio exercise. But, I did this in late February so not quite so demanding as it would be later in the hot summer. Take water (though there are cafes on the way) and make sure you cover yourself from the sun. Entry to this piece of history is free., but I think they should charge maybe €5 or similar so they can signpost paths better. But if you just want to see Alicante from "above" this is well worth the climb, great sights, but if you are, like me, in your early sixties and "somewhat overweight" it's going to be a little tougher for you than it is for the younger fitter folks that go there. Glad I did it, sense of achievement I suppose. 👍🏻

Great place. Nice view on Alicante and the sea. Free entrance. Several cafes inside the fortress, museum. Everything is in good condition. Parking is nearby. Can be also reached by bus right to the top of the mountain.

Nice and quiet place to visit. You can either walk your way up or take the elevator. There are a few places where you can get drinks, snacks, ice cream etc.
The view is amazing!

Pretty nice views anywhere you are, but if you walk to the top, you can have a 360 degree view of the entire city, the coast, and beyond. The walk up isn't as tough as you might think, though if you have mobility issues, it may be wiser to take the lift (this option will only set you back a couple euros per person). There are metal sculptures of medieval warriors strewn about the complex, and a case-protected pottery exhibit in the main bedroom of the governor near the top.
All in all a decent experience, especially considering there is no admission fee. Also, the views of the city during sunset are really pretty. Instagrammers might love it.

I was driving near to Alicante & randomly decided to come to check out the castle. I’m so glad I did because it was a beautiful day. It may seem simple but this castle has been well maintained & you can see where they’ve reinforced it to keep it this way. The views are spectacular. There are amazing smells from the lavender, rosemary, helichrysum, & all.
I highly recommend making time to spend time walking around to see this gem.

Nice Castle with a nice view of the city and the port. There is a lift from the beach and in couple minutes you are in the top. Otherwise you could walk and it takes around 30min. The entrance is free for the castle.

Wonderful castle in the middle of Alicante !! Easily reached basically from anywhere ( beach to castle is around 20mins?), the views from there are really nice...

I would suggest to arrive early when the place is opened (10am), alter it is getting a bit too busy ;-)
