Beautiful architecture and lovely courtyard, it costs 2 euro to enter both the front of the building and the main chapel.
It is definitely a place to visit there in Santander.

Lovely place to visit. I visited on Monday and they were not charging the 2 euros to enter. The cathedral is a lot lower inside than it looks outside but nevertheless a great place to get away from the sun

Santander has a wonderful Cathedral. It was the start of our pilgrimage to Santiago. The priest refused our donated money for our passport stamp and blessed us for our journey. The surrounding area is worth a wander, with a water feature on the lower town side of the Cathedral. The interior has beautiful decorated ornate glass and more.

Right at the center of cultural city and must visit place who live architectural values.
They close for visitors during service times in mornings and evening for about 40min.

Sadly the Cathedral was closed for renovations, but I was lucky enough to have good views from my hotel and got a sneaky look inside and the crypt downstairs is open.
Absolutely stunning place.

Beautiful! In late September there are special entry times but the wait is worth it.
All descriptions are in Spanish only, but get a translator app on your phone and it enhances the opportunity to see a beautiful place.

Nice gothic. cathedral. The church just below the cathedral is also worth a visit, with its me stone ceilings and organ pipes and confession box

"Santander's Cathedral is an austere Gothic building. Construction started in the 13th century, immediately after completion of the lower church (the church of the Christ), whose floor plan is the same. The Gothic cloister was the last part of the Cathedral to be built, during the first quarter of the 14th century. The Cathedral was expanded in the 16th and 17th centuries to create space for the addition of new chapels, which were distributed along the walls of the two side naves. Declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1931, it was seriously damaged in the Santander Fire of 1941. With the reconstruction, it was further enlarged to double its capacity, thanks to the transept with dome, the apse and the ambulatory which were added at that time.

Inside, the most interesting features are the altars dedicated to Saint Fernando III of Castile and Saint Matthias, the tomb of Marcelino Menéndez Pelayo, made by the sculptor Victorio Macho, and the chapel of the Rosary, which belonged to the Riva Herrera family. Another important feature is the organ, with more than 6000 pipes and over 100 registrations, some of which have never been achieved until now.

The Cathedral also houses the History of the City Interpretation Centre."

It's only 2€ for entry. For pilgrims on the Camino del Norte (Northern Way) make sure you pay your respects to the Apostle Saint James whose figure is on the left hand corner to where you enter and sits opposite Santo Domingo de la Calzada (Camino Francés). The priest, Fernando, will also bless you if you ask him.

Imposing building worth a visit. The crypt is in my view more interesting than the main building. More atmospheric and intimate.

Your ticket covers you to enjoy the main building and the crypt which was a nice surprise. There’s a guide you can enjoy via a QR code which provides history and information on architectural details. not as impressive as a lot of other cathedrals, but well worth a visit. Watch out for the opening times as they shut most of the early afternoon.

Phenomenal catedral located near the bay. Entry costs 1€, but the price includes visiting green courtyard and cathedral itself.

Nice cathedral, quite small but lovely all the same. Free to walk around, donations accepted within the cathedral. A nice little display of the city with some history there as well, mostly in Spanish. A good little activity for a rainy day especially!

The gothic-style of Catedral de Santander is architecturally stunning, both inside and out. It is a landmark of the city with its grand towers and facades. The intricate details and stained glass are captivating. The cathedral also contains historic religious art and artifacts. Centuries-old and still functional today, it is considered a must-see attraction when visiting Santander. This impressive cathedral showcases devoted artistry and faith through the ages.

Exploring the enchanting gothic architectural style of Santander Cathedral built between the end of the 12th century and the 14th century on top of the former Santander Abbey also known as the "Abbey of the Holy Bodies" (Abadía de los Cuerpos Santos), an old monastery dedicated to Saints Emeterius and Celedonius.
