Khufu's ship is one of the oldest, largest and best-preserved vessels from antiquity. It measures 43.6 m long and 5.9 m . It was thus identified as the world's oldest intact ship and has been described as "a masterpiece of woodcraft" that could sail today if put into a lake, or a river. However, the vessel may not have been designed for sailing, as there is no rigging, or for paddling, as there is no room.
It was a great experience

The precision with which this is built is simply amazing. A miraculous piece of engineering work given these are more than 4500 years old. It is puzzling how could these ships survive and remain in such great condition. The museum housing the ships is also wonderful. Worth the visit and the pennies you pay :)

This boat is known as the Solar Boat, Cheops Boat and Solar Barge. They are all the names of the same beautiful boat that has had the honor of having a whole museum dedicated to it.
This museum is located right besides the Great Pyramid of Giza, called the Khufu or Cheops Pyramid. 5 boats or "barques" were discovered here in 1954. They are believed to have been placed there to carry the mummy of the dead Pharaoh Khufu, across the Nile, to the temple. After which, the Pharaoh would then have been brought to the burial chamber.
According to certain Egyptologists these boats were supposed to be used by the Pharaoh in his afterlife. To be used to carry the Pharaoh along with "Ra" the Sun God across the sky.
There was still a controversy as to whether they were real boats, or just facsimiles constructed to serve a ritualistic function. This was because, even though the boats are totally sail worthy, there are no rigging or space for paddles.
Though 5 boats discovered buried in 5 large pits around the pyramid, only one barque was lovingly restored and the other 4 were reburied for posterity.
It is a beautiful boat, totally preserved, in spite of being over 4500 years old. It is said to be made of Cedar wood and is 143ft long. The boat is in pristine condition. That is why cloth overshoes are provided at the museum reception to tie over your shoes so that no sand may enter the museum.
The ground floor of the museum is filled with photographs of the discovery and the large pit where the boat was discovered. The wooden stairway leads to the first floor, from where you can see the boat in detail. Large windows all around provide sufficient sunlight. It is truly magnificent and really worth a visit.
Tickets can be bought at a window outside the museum, though many feel it's overpriced.
There are washrooms in the premises as well. Many may balk at the extra fees, but if you have come so far, it is surely worth a visit.

Everything is very well presented. I strongly recommend seeing this magnificent work of art before you leave the Pyramids of Giza. Special footwear provided to enter this place. Spend about 45mins to 1 hour here. I would recommend taking a local guide here.
Tickets are 100LE for adults and 50LE for Children and students. To be honest the tickets could have been a bit cheaper and i still think it worth looking at. You can look at the ship from 3 levels. The pictures on the walls give you good details.
You can access the toilets for free here.

So hard to believe that you're looking at something that is over 4.500 years old. The state of preservation is just incredible - an absolute must see. Even more mind boggling are the size of the stone blocks that were used to cover over the pit that it was in.

Fascinating restoration. It blew my mind that even the ropes were recovered from this meticulously design ship - built specifically for the afterlife. It's worth the extra ticket to explore this ship and see the work that was completed to uncover and reconstruct this impressive ship.

The 1954 steamer Khufu's Ship, an ancient Egyptian boat of the pharaoh buried inside his funerary pyramid.

65 years have passed since the relics were found on the ship inside the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Its granules are up to 4600 years old, granules are reaching their end.

The of the name of the name of the name of the name of the Dark.

The boat is sometimes called the "sun boat". Put in the job title.

Egyptian archaeologist Kamal al-Mallakh discovered the compound on May 26, 1954, when it was standing under a stone wall on the south side of the Great Pyramid.

We cover a large area of land masses.

However, it was not known at the time how the ancient Egyptians built their ships, and restoration experts had to start from scratch in order to study shipbuilding.

You need to pay separately to see the museum and there is only 1 thing in it, but is it ever worth it! The museum has the sun ship, fully reconstructed and it is impressive. If you are going to see the pyramids and the Egyptian museum in Cairo, you must visit the ship as well. It won't be a complete visit otherwise.

A museum dedicated to a single boat. The truth is that this boat was built many thousands of years ago. And it is difficult to believe, looking at her condition, that this is exactly so. To touch the boat, unfortunately it is impossible. You can only put together, reflecting on the greatness of time and frailty of a short human life.

We booked the boat for a cruise on the Nile. It can hold 25 people comfortably, but you the galley is cramped and the brig only holds two at a time. The boat has all the amenities and you can fish, tube and water ski behind the boat as it has a top speed of 15 knots an hour. The crew were professional and courteous. The booze flowed freely and the food was amazing! All in all, I would recommend this highly.

Name is wrong, it's solar museum. A must see, better than anything else there.
Comfortable space, good conservation work. The antique shop is reasonable. As usual the wash room man is demanding.

This museum is a bonus point with Giza pyramids. The museum displays an intact full size vessel that was most probably built for king Khufu/Cheops. Not just the boat but the various equipments found and used to build the boat, which are displayed in the first floor, is amazing. It's how you understand what kind of knowledge the ancient Egyptians were equipped with and quite possibly it is possible by them only to build something like that. The guard inside is a nice guy and would show spots where you can have great photos. Entry fee is 100 EGP and photo ticket is 50 EGP. A must visit if you're at Giza pleateu.
