El Alamein War Cemetery - British

EL ALAMEIN WAR CEMETERY contains the graves of men who died at all stages of the Western Desert campaigns, brought in from a wide area, but especially those who died in the Battle of El Alamein at the end of October 1942 and in the period immediately before that.

Beautifully maintained, quiet and peaceful- as a commonwealth citizen i really thankful for how much this cemetery has been cared for.

As always, Commonwealth War Graves sites are meticulous, but hauntingly beautiful places. Through the inscriptions of loved ones on the headstones, the dead reach out and challenging us to reconcile the pain of loss, with the joy of living, and to embrace our lives, and those that we love, in such a way that was denied them. Take the time to read a random few, and reflect on the anguish of the author, sometimes expressed in stark simplicity, sometimes in most eloquent poetry, sometimes through words laden with sadness and pain, sometimes through words celebrating the life that was. Take pause at the grave of an unknown soldier, no less a mother's lost son, a child's lost father, loved and remembered. The world that they paid for is slow to arrive, but each tear shed in rememberance diminishes the gap.

It’s an amazing part of history kept in Egyptian soil. This land was a gift of the Egyptian people to those who died in El Alamein battles during WWII. The cementera is very well kept and clean.

Questo posto fa sentire il vero peso della guerra, migliaia di tombe una di fianco all'altra. Da visitare insieme al monumento dei caduti Italiani e al museo della guerra. Un'esperienza unica, misto al caldo del deserto ti fa riflettere e comprendere.
