An interesting.place. After visiting both the nearby castles, it provided a good respite from the crowds which flock to the site. Word of advice. Prebook your tickets to avoid the long queues to see the castles. I booked in advance and had my ticket within 10mins of arrival, which saved me heaps of time from just having to stand there and wait to be served.

Very nice. Only 11 Euro per person which is ok considering the area. High tourist area is what I mean. Also there is an elevator for those who can't climb stairs. Very informative and a great amount to see and learn from. I would visit again.

Very cool museum! We didn't go to the castles themselves, so it was very nice getting to learn about the castles and about the history of everything in the area. We got the audio tour clickers which were easy to use and very informative.

Small museum but with a lot of great information, recommended that you use the book they have at the entrance so you can get more insights on the exposition, definitely worth the trip and time spent reading the articles.

Fascinating museum about the Wittelsback family! Nicely set up and lots to see. Would recommend if you're visiting the castles to come here, it adds some depth to understanding of their construction and the background behind them. It is in a very peaceful location by the lake, the area in front is a good meeting place and the start to walks around the short. The shop was also very nice and well stocked for gifts and books.

We basically stumbled into this place after exploring the area and I'm glad we did. Before the trip we studied up on Bavarian history so this was a nice treat. This is a great museum if you're a history person, or just want to kill some time before or after your tours. There's plenty of artifacts and information about Bavarian kings. Definitely recommend!

Highly highly recommend visiting the Bavarian Kings museum first to better understand the history of the castles. The castle tours don’t give you much history or understanding of the royal family, so I would say this place is a must. Take the audio guide and listen to the history along the first wall of the family members! Along the end of the wall you get to Ludwig II, and the rest of the museum covers mostly the more recent generations. Ludwig II was a super interesting guy worth reading about before seeing the castles. It’s also worth visiting both castles. I recommend visiting the Bavarian Kings museum THEN hohenschwangau THEN neuschwanstein. The museum will give you a good idea of history of the Wittelsbach family, Hohenschwangau is interesting and Neuschwanstein is stunning. The man at the front desk of the museum was very kind.

Fun and incredibly interesting tour through the history of the governance of Bavaria and the Bavarian Royals themselves. Particularly focused on Maximilian I, Ludwig II, and Luitpold von Bayern.

An interesting place to learn some of the Bavarian kingdom history. It's near the lake, with an easy to miss entrance. The museum is small, and it mainly exhibits artefacts and photos of original paintings on the wall. It has good audio guide thou, and the staff was very friendly.

This place is for everyone who is interested in the history of the rulers of Bavaria. From the first one until today.
You can find answers to questions like "What happens to the rulers family after the monarchy?" and maybe you can solve the mystery about the death of Kind Ludwig II. and the true story.

Suprising, fantastic, and had beautiful interior architecture. A great place to warm up a bit while in the area and learn a bit more about the regal history of Bavaria than what they teach you in the castle tours.

Quite often overlooked because everyone wants to see the castle, but actually gives you much more information about Ludwig II and his family

great place, ideal complement to the visit of Ludwig's castles. It takes at least a couple of hours to visit it so it is better, for example, 'to do' a castle and the museum the first day, and the next day the other castle.
Very good documentation about the history of Wittelsbach family and their relation to Bavaria and Germany history. Many informations about Ludwig but not limited to him, I discovered a lot of interesting things about Prince Rupprecht and his family.
In my opinion a visit to Munich's Residenz and its Schatzkammer should be planned in order to fully understand the history and life environment of Bavarian Kings.
Very easy access with ramps and large parking space.
