We took the mini ferry from Ellenz-Poltersdorf to the picturesque town of Beilstein. While walking through the fairytale like streets of Beilstein we slowly made our way up the mountain to Burg Metternich. The atmosphere and views are amazing and the climb not too bad. When arrived at the burg we explored the grounds and enjoyed a drink on the outdoor terrace, while overlooking the Mosel.

Beautiful ruined castle with a picturesque lookout from the top of the tower. A quaint restaurant rounds out the grounds providing local wines and small dishes. Excellent experience but will require visitors to walk up a few hundred meters from the parking areas below - the gravel road leading up to the castle is primarily for emergency vehicles.

Worth the effort of a fairly steep walk. Fantastic views. Cafe at the top, only had eiskaffe which was very refreshing. Plenty of parking at the start of the walk through the village.

Quick walk up the hill, certainly worth it. There is a small entrance fee. And come to Beilstein, it's amazing!

One of the ruins in the gorgeous German Moesel area. Not a very special ruin, but the coolest part is probably climbing the tower which gives a great view (see pictures).

The entrance fee to the tower is €2,50. There is a bathroom there.

We came here with our three kids ages 5, 3, and 1.5 years on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm. We didn’t find any designated parking but found a small automat lot at the base of the castle right next to an awesome little playground on Im-Mulental (50.1085466, 7.2408434)(metered hourly parking that maxed out at €7 for the day with about 10 spots). From there we followed signs up to the castle. The path was stroller friendly all the way up, aside from a few steps here and there and the tower. It was about a 5-10 walk at toddler place to the ticket office. We only had to pay for ourselves as kids under 6 were free and it was €6 for both of us. It took about 45 minutes for us to explore the whole castle, though our kids would have happily played in a cute little sandpit right outside the restaurant longer if we didn’t have to get home. The castle itself is incredibly charming and well maintained, of course with a few areas that aren’t accessible to the public. The ruins are in amazing shape, if not restored, and while there’s not that many “rooms” left, the tower is probably one of my favorites so far as it has multiple levels with windows to look out of and then a beautiful open top with amazing views. The steps are decently safe for small kids under supervision, well lit with railings all the way up and not horribly steep or slippery. The restaurant had an amazing atmosphere, and had we not just eaten I would have loved to sit there overlooking the river; it seems more of a restaurant than just a cafe or bistro. It wasn’t terribly busy even for being a Saturday afternoon, we could still explore and take pictures without being crowded. Bathrooms were small but clean. Overall a beautiful castle that is great to see with kids as it isn’t too big, is mostly stroller friendly, well priced, has stunning views from multiple locations, and is gorgeous with an enchanting on site restaurant.

One of ruined castles in the Mosel valley. Offers stunning views to the river and surroundings. The interesting experience is climbing the tower and see Mosel from there.
The way to the castle is not too difficult.
The Beilstein is probably the nicest town on Mosel and the Metternich Castle is it’s pearl.

Worth a visit if you’re in the area. Explore the castle ruins with beautiful views of the Mosel river. Restaurant at the top, also public toilets available. Reasonable amount of street parking on the main highway.

Great ruined castle overlooking Beilstein, perhaps the cutest town on the Moselle River in Germany. Fantastic views of the river valley, incredible hillside Vineyards and town. Also has a restaurant with outdoor seating. Closed at 6:00 pm when we visited. Nominal entry charge, 3e for seniors

Beautiful ruins!! Amazing view of the river Mosel.. Beilstein is a tiny beautiful town and Metternich Castle just increases its beauty..
It takes 20 minutes or so to reach to the top and there is also a cafe on the top. Not a tough hike. No guided tour but you get a pamphlet in different languages just to explain the bare minimum of the ruins.

Nice location with beautiful view. Not too much to do inside, do not need more than 20 mins to see. You can spend some more time taking sun, enjoying the view or having a drink/food in the restaurant.

Entrance fee is 3 EUR. In my opinion, totally worth it for the views. Make sure you go up the tower to get the 360 view.
