Macocha Abyss

Great excursion if you’re coming to Czechia, on a good day especially. If you’re feeling adventurous you can rent a cycle in Brno and get the train to then cycle 25/30 mins on nice windy roads toward Macocha.

This is an amazing place. In addition to an excursion to the cave, there is a gorgeous road among rocks and forests. Raspberries and apples. Been there twice already and still need to come back. Cafe. Souvenirs.

Beautiful palace in the Moravian region, part of the caves complex. There are few ways to reach it coming through the forest. On the view point in the top there is also a restaurant with the possibility to try local beer and food. It is very good place for family or group visits.

Wonderful place for a day trip, easy to reach even with smaller kids or elderly people. Not to be missed.

Don’t forget,,the caves are cool and wet so dress a little warmer

We cycled around the Moravsky Kras area. Beautiful! The abyss is amazing. It’s best to go down from Sloup or Vilemovice on bike trail 5. A great way to cool down after a long ride.

Must visit. Biggest abyss in central Europe.
You can see from the top, then go down the stairs for a second look from the lower observation point. And then go with a nice walk down to entrance to Punkva Caves (there you need to book tickets in advance).

The heart of the Moravian Karst... 138 meters deep hole offering beautiful views on beauties of Mother Nature.
It’s perfect place to begin the trip around caves nearby. I recommend to walk downhill, visit Katerinska cave. After that you can take train (or walk) to Punkevni cave... and from there, take a cableway uphill to Macochy.
This will be beautiful one day trip for your family.

You have to try the cabel car(lanovka). Nice and spectacular place. You can park by car in the public park place for 50 czech korona for the whole day.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

I highly recommend this place mainly because it’s very close to other places and caves where you cab go to.
You can get here either by foot, bike, car or cableway ( buses too occasionally). Once you get up on the hill you can have lunch in here in one of the buffets or a restaurant. The abyss has 3 viewing platforms. One on the top one a bit lower and the one almost on the bottom, the bottom being only available for the visitors of the Punkva caves. In terms of safety.. it’s not that safe and the only thing that keeps you falling into the abyss is one small railing, but you definitely don’t need to be scared. It’s a very nice trip so I highly recommend it when you’re in the area of the Moravian Karst.

Beautiful place. Cave entrance is from the bottom. One can walk down to the entrance or take a cable car.

Place definitely worth to visit if you are near by. Stunning 138 meters sinkhole with two viewpoint balconies. Lots of woodland walks. There is even a cable car which take you back up to the top of Macocha Abyss.

Absolutely stunning it is the second time I am going there. The view is mesmerising and breathtaking at the same time. In owe facing so much beauty. There's also a car park if you don't feel like doing the all climb up. But it's really worth visiting the inside. I highly recommend!!

Impressive! Take the tour from the Punkevni cave to fully appreciate the size of it.
