Mural of Prehistory

If I could paint on a rock formation, this would be the place - I was in awe looking up at the magnificent and in-depth detail of this piece of historical art done in the 60's. Even more incredible is how the artist worked out the design as it was created and executed on mollusk and sea organisms in rock. It is wild to think of what the rock formation is made up of, considering the ocean is quite far from this location.

What I found online: Prehistoria is the work of the former Director of Mapping at the Cuban Academy of Sciences, Leovigildo González Morillo. A master of neo-caveman artistry, Morillo undertook the massive project of portraying world history up until the age of humans on a rock wall in the Viñales Valley.

Spanning from early mollusks and other ancient sea-organisms, the rock face mural moves through the age of the dinosaurs and ends with three giant red human figures. Both lauded as brilliant in its simplicity, and decried as an eyesore, it has taken a massive effort from the community to maintain the mural after the death of its creator.

What makes this site fun is the insane and incredibly delicious pina coladas. This man behind the bar would take the award if there were a world contest for Pina Coladas. Creamy, smooth, undetected rum flavor with a dash of fresh cinnamon on top, then another floater of rum.

This is the biggest mural painting on a natural stone wall from the entire world,120 meters wight by 80 meters high. Made in '60 by the Cuban artist Leivigildo Gonzalez Murillo. The context and the main motif represented is the Life Evolution. It worth a, small amount of money to have a large perspective of this piece of art, genuine and particular kind of creative idea.

One of the most spectacular places I have ever seen. The energy level is tremendous. Also a plus… the best pina colada I have ever tried.

A moment of peace, It was late in a Sunday afternoon and the place was not crowded. There was a moment that we were by ourselves and the only sound around was birds singing echoing the walls of the Mogotes in the Valley.

The place is very beautiful and majestic. We took a bike from our house and it was a nice trip. The place is really well groomed and clean!

First of all the place is fantastic, secondly: the piña colada we tasted there was one of the best in Cuba. Great place, a must if u are in the Viñales.

Beautiful mural but the greatest thing is all the surrounding nature! Entrance fee 120 pesos.

3 CUC to get in. I thought the painted wall was pretty cool. You could walk or bike to it but I took a taxi around Vinales for a couple of hours which I recommend.

Very nice experience I enjoyed the trip with a tour bus.

Good place to visit

An absolute must in Vinales. We took a horse and buggy out there 3 hours of site seeing 20Cid. Mobility users if they are strong can access a buggy.
