Café Kahawa

After hiking the waterfall trail we had some time before our arranged taxi was coming to pick us up, so we walked up to this lovely cafe we noticed while driving down.

What a lucky decision! The location is idyllic, right along the river with covered, but open air seating. The decorations are adorable! And the food was delicious. I ordered a ginger detox drink which was delightful and a tasty sandwich. My friend got beetroot pasta which she raved about. Only wish I could have come back and ordered here again.

It's a long drive down a narrow, winding road from the main highway but well worth the detour. Set in an almost enchanted valley with a rippling stream, beautiful gardens, and exotic wildlife is a restauant with top-notch service, and excellent food.

Upon being greeted by our server, she led us onto their patio and showed us a Trogon, an exotic bird that is related to the quetzal, poking its head out from a hole in a tree. We were amazed.

She then led us to our table, which was in a beautiful open-air dining area. The food was delicious: I had the pasta bolognese with fresh trout in the sauce.

After our meal, we strolled the gardens, which are immaculate and photo-worthy.

We couldn't be happier with this find. Highly recommended.

This place absolutely slaps. Some of the best food we had in Costa Rica and there are loads of trails nearby worth exploring. Get the trout!

This place is wonderful, we loved it! Very nice staff, beautiful views, very nice design of the whole restaurant. You are looking into surrounding greenery and listening to the sound of nearby river. Compared to other restaurants in San Gerardo de Dota, this restaurant is further from the road so it feels more private and quiet. It is really the best choice. The food is super tasty, I had the best trout ever! You have to try it! Perfectly cooked, perfectly flavoured. Both desserts were also great. Highly recommended

Loved this place! We ate breakfast here twice during our time in the area. The food is amazing, and the location can't be beat. The patio overlooks the rainforest, it's absolutely beautiful. We saw tons of birds while eating, they have a walking path on property as well with a playground.

Great location overlooking the stream with tasty food selection. The last time there several colorful Trogon birds came to visit as well.

One of the best restaurants with the best vibe of our trip. Take a walk outside behind the restaurant and see two different bridges and rivers. Get the ceviche and the fish tacos.

I came here for dinner my first night in San Gerardo and came back the second night as well. Everything I had here was great. The local trout was excellent, the service friendly, and the grounds and patio absolutely beautiful. They’ve put a lot of attention into the decor and it’s absolutely lovely!

Excellent service with all covid protocols. The site has a wonderful view to a river. Trucha in coconut sauce is delicious.
The place can get crowded after 1pm, so come early. This is a must go place around the area. Do not miss it.

We ate breakfast here after a morning of looking for, finding and photographing quetzales. What a wonderful ending to an early morning outing! The food and service were wonderful, but the place itself was so charming, my eyes felt well fed, too.
Our server, Diego, was so helpful, he even came over to our table to point out that a beautiful collared trogan had perched near another part of this open air restaurant. And he made the suggestion that we walk the trails behind the restaurant, which was a great idea.

Cafe Kahawa was awesome! Our server pointed out two birds. My partner and I both had delicious juices and the fresh trout with coconut sauce. For dessert we shared the apple pie. Everything was very delicious!

Amazing place and food just next to Savegre River. Definitely a must if you're near San Gerardo de Dota. Tip: just ask for the organic chocolate terrine and thank me later.

100/10 its so beautiful sitting outside surrounded by nature and antique decor. Food and cappuccino was out of this world!
