La Casona del Maíz

Cute typical place it even had a little beach area where kids can play! Bathrooms are a little weird but you can't have everything. Great food and great place.

It was the first stop after our arrival. Recommend by the rental car agent, La Cason’s del Maiz did not disappoint. The food was fresh and full of flavor and our server was attentive. We all had plantains with cheese for the first time and it was delicious. You will not leave hungry.

La Casona del Maiz is a casual roadside open-air restaurant with a view! As their name implies, the specialty seems to be corn, though the menu runs the gamut of Costa Rican cuisine. The Super Desayuno Campesino was a platter of breakfast dishes for sharing, including gallo pinto (rice mixed with beans), fried eggs, crispy bacon, sour cream, cheese, fried sweet plantains, beef tongue in tomato sauce, avocado, arracache picadillo (made with a local root vegetable), and tortillas. Everything on the platter was super tasty and came together in a colorful, balanced meal, and the service and value here were outstanding too!

We eat dinner here 3 nights out of 4 days here. Everything is so delicious. The owner is super nice, the price is reasonable. The steak tastes much better than we had in a pricy Italian restaurant in this town.

The food is spectacular and the portions are huge! It's very reasonably priced too. We fed our group of 7, with frescos and appetizers and desserts - and enough left overs for an entire second meal for less than we spend on date night in the US.

The staff was so friendly and attentive, they were all very kind to us.

The atmosphere was very nice and airy.

Best Gallo pinto, (rice and beans), in the area. The prices are reasonable and the food comes on top of a banana leaf. Loved it! Great place for breakfast and a walk across the street to a giant nursery.

We absolutely loved this place. If you just flew into San Jose and need to eat after a long flight this is your spot. Cool view and the portions are big. Great flavors nice people, what more do you want.

Just amazing. Great grill dishes for large groups to share. Make sure you get a pozol here. The picture is a "Casado campesino con chicharrón".

This is an excellent typical Tico soda. There is also a small playground for kids to use and the view is amazing!!! The restaurant is 10 minutes from the airport so it's a great place to stop and have a quick meal after you get off the plane in SJO!! The food was good and the service was prompt. We will be returning!

..believable. I'd go back to CRI to just eat at this, simple restaurant. Outstanding, non pretentious gem along side the road.
