Selva Verde Lodge

We stayed 3 nights at the Selva Verde Lodge. We had a room with air conditioning and fans. The room was very comfortable, but it had a some musty smell (probably due to the heat and humidity of the climate).

We ate all our meals there. The food was very tasty & good quality.

It's a great area for bird and animal watching. There is a stream there.

Everyone there was very friendly.

This is an excellent place to experience the humid, tropical jungle.

Selva Verde was amazing! When you arrive, you don't see the gem until you get inside. It's a beautiful space of cabin type rooms inside a wilderness presence. The food was amazing and the staff was outstanding. We took the night tour at the hotel. I can't say enough how amazing this experience was. It definitely ranks in the top experiences for our trip!

Beautiful large rooms with AC and ceiling fans. Abundant lighting, wonderful bathroom with double sinks and large shower. Complimentary coffee in the room. Hair dryer is also provided.
The restaurant has buffet service for all meals. There is a pool. Extra towels are provided in your room. There are water filling stations throughout the facility. The grounds are huge, beautiful and well maintained. Birding is excellent!

Selva Verde was an incredible lodge, comfortable, clean and you felt part of nature. The staff was so kind and lovely.
The grounds are very natural and well kept. Great views of the river and rainforest. No shortage of wildlife either, great birdwatching and other animal sightings. I attended a retreat here and it was the perfect space. I would absolutely go back.

Beautiful lodge in an amazing location. Went on an awesome hike to a very old Almond tree. Saw Howler Monkeys, various birds, sloths, and other creatures. Went kayaking down a river. The food is good, service is great, and the grounds and building are well maintained.

Amazing place. Wildlife is everywhere. In the area we did nature hikes, boat rides, and whitewater rafting, all arranged at front desk. This was one of highlights of trip and not too touristy. Food is very good at lodge

Surrounded by nature and extremely well maintained... has a very welcoming vibe... excellent rooms, great views of river Sarapiqui, very friendly staff, knowledgeable and passionate tour guides, fresh yummy food and a true bird paradise! We saw 3 types of toucans, 2 types of macaws, lots of hummingbirds, mannequins, kingfisher, ibis, heron, and many other beautiful birds. In addition to the birds we saw red eyes green tree frogs, poison dart frogs, many different butterflies, iguana, turtle, basilisks, 2 types of sloths and more. We also enjoyed excellent guided hikes and white water rafting!

This place is IN the rain forest and on the river! It was amazing. Keep in mind it rains in the rain forest, sometimes several times a night. The rooms were really large and comfortable. The hammocks in front of the rooms and wooden walk ways a plus. I would return and stay longer next time+

I had an excellent stay at Selva Verde. I was concerned about noise from the road and they were sure to give me a room that was quiet, near the river. The hotel is really beautiful, with lots of teak and wooden details. The bed was literally the most comfortable bed I slept on my whole trip throughout the area and Savegre Valley. Breakfast was great, buffet style with attendants with many options. The hotel grounds are expansive, with gardens to walk around, an area across the road, and a large area of primary rainforest reserve that can only be accessed with a guide or on a tour. A nice place to start or end a trip!

Selva Verde Lodge and Reserve is an incredible experience for those looking to unwind in the tropical rainforest and get amazing looks at bountiful wildlife. I visited for a birding trip, and there was great avian abundance and diversity--even right by the rooms! Tiger-herons, owls, and hummingbirds could be seen right from the boardwalk, tanagers and caciques from the dining area, and many more reclusive species a short walk away on the trails. While I expected to find so many species here, their proximity was a pleasant surprise and non-avian animals like iguanas, basilisks, and tree-frogs were readily seen. Our guide for the trip, Chito, seemed to know everything there is about rainforest ecology and helped birders of all skill levels locate species. The rooms are comfortable and the food is varied and delicious, with lots of options at every meal.

A wonderful experience in the forest surrounded by beautiful animals. Lovely staff too.

I had an amazing stay at this lodge a few weeks ago. The food is good, the staff is incredible, and it’s in an absolutely stunning part if the rainforest by a river. The rooms are very nice but don’t expect cell service. I fully intend to pay Selva Verde another visit if I ever travel to Costa Rica again.

Great place. The river is right behind the facility so if you get lucky there are river view rooms. The rooms are set up in 4s with chairs and a hammock outside. Food is good and the bar is wonderful. The bartenders were a riot. Try a Sloth!!. The forest path across the river(by suspension bridge) is excellent. We saw a wide variety of flora and fauna. The path was a bit slippery but there had been quite a bit of rain. The raft trip we took went right by which was neat. Howler monkeys were common and the birding is great. The hotel has a viewing porch with a feeding area below so coffee and birds in the morning.

We had a one night stay at Selva Verde lodge. They gave us a warm welcome at the reception and were very helpful with tips about the different excursions they offer. The room in our cabin was large, with two queen beds and a bathroom. From the porch you could watch a lot of birds. Recommend to do the nightwalk with a guide. Our guide Randy was very enthusiastic and spotted a lot of animals and insects. We even got to see the famous red eyed tree frog. Dinner at the Italian restaurant (inside the premises) was delicious.

Beautiful retreat-style resort. Plenty to do, all in line with the rainforest. Only stayed one night but could have easily stayed a week

Stunning surroundings. Nice welcome. And the Pizza pasta restaurant was excellent in a beauutful location. Loved to have stopped another night.

Can't say enough good things about this amazing place. It's in the middle of the forest with all the beauty and wildlife (birds, native little frogs, lizards, and even a howler monkey) while also having a scenic, covered concrete path throughout the main compound, pool, a large dining area with included breakfast buffet, and free internet. The people were incredibly kind, polite and helpful. This lodge and the surrounding area is truly a birding paradise. The plants and flowers are also amazing. These pictures were taken at the lodge and I could have posted many more with different scenery. Definitely plan to return!

Great time to be on this hostel. Nature around was incredible. The river makes the place really peaceful. I recommend it for girl who travel in Costa Rica alone.

I loved the stay for two nights at Selva Verde. Tours were great. The night tour and breakfast was so delicious. :)

We stayed three nights at Selva Verde at the beginning of June with rain in the afternoons. The room was clean, comfortable, and air conditioned. The food in the dining area was good and served buffet style. We got a sack breakfast from reception when we left out early for a birding tour.

The grounds are minimally landscaped; the lodge promotes the natural beauty of the forest to be the landscaping. We saw a lot of birds at the fruit station adjacent to the dining hall and a lot of basilisks, green/black poison dart frogs, and large toads walking in from the parking area. There are well marked, covered trails throughout the lodge grounds. FYI - Reception, parking, dining, and sleeping rooms are spread out; it might be challenging for someone with mobility issues, but the covered trails allow you to go to and from the restaurant and office without getting rained on.

The lodge is close to La Seva Biological Station. We did a fantastic “long day” guided birding tour here.
