Mirador Cinchona

Absolutely love this place! Everytime we go to San Jose we go out of our way to go here. Breakfast is very good and the bird watching and view alone make it a morning full of excitement! We have been several times and we will continue to visit.

We didn't eat, but they kindly allowed us to view the overlook to the waterfall and the birds! The hummingbirds were precious and fly right over your head!

Delicious local cuisine with a view of waterfall and lots of birds on perches! The hot sugarcane juice was very refreshing!

You must stop here!! Family restaurant, beautiful view of the falls. There were more beautiful birds on the deck of this restaurant than you’ll see anywhere else, we even saw a toucan. They will do a carry out order and you can wait on the deck too. Very delicious food and very good prices.

This place is an absolute gem and we are so glad we didn't stop at the more touristy places. The food, waterfall, wildlife and Freddie (front of house) are all truly exceptional. For birdwatchers, the hummingbirds and other species coming to the deck are overwhelming. We were made to feel very welcome and the food was authentic and delicious. We would love to return! This was the best surprise in our entire trip so far. I thought I was coming to a place to have breakfast, coffee and a view. It was right but it was so much better than what I had expected! We arrived and the view of the waterfall was magnificent. Then, staff put out bananas for the birds to eat and we saw at least a dozens types of birds. Hummingbirds were having mid-air sword fights right above our heads! We ordered a gallo pinto and they kindly gave us a vegan version with picadillo de papas (potatoes) as a side instead of an egg. The place looked beautiful, the food was amazing and the views just made Earth look like an absolute paradise.

A great place to stop for yummy casadas, birdwatching, and waterfall views

An absolute gem of a place. We went to visit La Paz Waterfall and then drove up here afterwards. The food was local cuisine and absolutely delicious. But the best bit is the views and the fruit left out for birds/wildlife. We saw so many different varieties of bird, with an incredible backdrop.

Soda y Mirador Cinchona or Colibri Cafe (hummingbird cafe) I visited in 2001 and came back with my Family December of 2023. The place was destroyed in the 2009 earthquake and has been built even better. From there porch one has a view of the perfect mirador — viewing location — for the San Fernando Waterfall. Plunging over 250 feet as it it empties out of the Barva Volcano at Braulio Carrillo National Park into the steep gorge cut by its own outflow and the La Paz Waterfall. It’s an exquisite place to sit, drink coffee and enjoy the beauty. But that is just the start the birds especially the hummingbirds are to die for. The food is all cook the old fashioned Costa Rican way over wood. We had the nine vegetables with beef soup fantastic.

Great little hidden gem here. Food was goodbut what stands out is the great view of a nearby waterfall, the curious birds and the environment of the cafe with the carved wooden furniture. Definitely worth a visit if on your way.

The food and service were good but the star of the show was the view. The restaurant sits on the mountainside with great views of the valley and a waterfall below. They also put fruit out next deck so you can watch the local animals while you eat. We saw toucans, squirrels, a coutis, and many other birds right from our table.

Best spot for bird watching

Great food with a great view. You will have an amazing view while you enjoy real typical costarican food. The recommendation would be to arrive early to order the "olla de carne", you would enjoy your food surrounded by tropical forest, birds (specially hummingbirds) and the sound of San Fernando waterfall. You could good coffee and typical breakfast too. You could bring a sweater here, it's usually cloudy and foggy.

The birds here are amazing! Must have seen 20 kinds. The waterfall in the distance is also special. I tried the sugarcane drink, tastes like sweet potato. It was a bit crowded in the morning.

Come to see the exotic birds right in front of you! There is a stunning view of a very tall waterfall pouring out of the jungle.

This place is like a hidden gem. One must visit if you are coming to La Paz falls. This amazing restaurant sits off the cliff facing the rainforest with one of the most amazing views you can every have while enjoying ur food. This place serves very good food.

The hummingbird cafe! Outstanding views of birds and hummers buzzing by your head! Excellent selection of snacks and coffee another must see !

one of the best restaurants in the world. they have it all. best juices and coffee. but nothing like the atmosphere and view. prices are incredible and you will wonder if inflation will ever arrive. TIP: bring a bottle of white rum and spike the guanabana juice. sit back and NOW enjoy costa rica.

This was the snack stop on the tour I went on. It was really cool! The observation deck out in the back had an amazing view and was set up to attract local birds. The two dogs there were sweet and welcomed the attention from the tourists!
