Oscar is an amazing guide. He's professional, passionate about birds, knowledgeable, and thoughtful. He was adept at noticing the sounds of the forest, knowing who is making them, and efficiently but politely guiding us to seeing the species and seeing them well. I'm an ecologist and was impressed with the depth and extent of his knowledge about ecological relationships, species behavior, life history and ranges, and of course the calls as well as songs, and even all the names because he knows them in Spanish, English, and Latin. My Spanish is poor so I was happy to find that he speaks English fluently. He showed us resplendent quetzals, emerald toucanets, chlorophonia and other euphonias, blue crowned motmot, and so many other species. We went in December, which was lovely, but will return to Monteverde some year in March and will 100% sign up well ahead of time to go out with Nasua Tours for both the full-day birding tour twice and a night tour. Our biggest regret from our trip to Costa Rica was failing to sign up in time for a night tour with Nasua (we did one on Drake Bay, which was very good but turns out it was completely different from what we would have experienced in Monteverde). I can't recommend Oscar enough as a guide.

Oscar was a fantastic guide. This was our second time back to CR, with now our two kids. We saw agoutis, a group of spider monkeys (one with a ‘baby’), multiple Lesson’s motmots, various species of hummingbirds, including the purple-throated mountain gem, frogs, army ants, a tarantula, and toucans. I’m sure I missed some and these were just the fauna. Oscar was professional, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable (and we are two biologists!). Book with Oscar - you won’t regret it!

Nasua tours is amazing! We went on two tours with Oscar - a private night tour and private morning birdwatching tour in Curicancha and they were by far the absolute best tours in our 3 weeks in Costa Rica! Oscar is the most knowledgable and friendly guide ever and he does an incredible job spotting all kinds of animals and educating you along the way. If you are planning to do any kind of tour in Costa Rica, look no further, he is the best!

Just returned home from a three-day experience in Monteverde. No question, the highlight of our trip was the bird watching with Oscar at Nasau Tours. We were so impressed with his knowledge of the local wildlife and plant species! He was able to spot something beautiful that we would never have found quickly, and he gave us a very clear view with his equipment for some amazing photos. There was so much more to it than just the beautiful birds, and it was a pleasure getting to know him. We hope to be able to do it again soon. Thank you Oscar!

We had a great experience with Oscar. He is a wonderful guide, very knowledgeable, approachable, helpful, and ethical. We had two tours with him, a private birdwatching tour and a group night walking tour. Through the birdwatching tour, we saw toucans, quetzal, motmot, parrots, golden browed chlorophonia, Euphonia, howler monkey, viper, agouti, and so many more! Oscar knows where the animals are at and the best ways to watch them. He would not only show you the animals but also share about their habits and why they are at where they are. Through the night tour, we also saw a lot of sleeping birds, sloth, vipers, and a lot any animals. Also, he is very ethical and would rather cancel/postpone if cannot provide the best experience to clients. He loves animals and his country to heart. I would strongly recommend Oscar. Also, do a private tour if you can!

I'd give 10 stars if I could. We booked both the night walk and the bird watching tour in the following morning. Both tours were amazing - our guide Oscar has the knowledge of a whole encyclopedia all around flora and fauna and is super nice and helpful. We were as lucky to see several snakes, birds, agutis, coatis, tarantulas - and the Kings of them all, a total of three different quetzales. Oscar knew exactly where and what to look for, had explanations and info to each and every sighting of animals or plants, like micro orchids. Not only was it educating, it also was entertaining. So far, this was the best tour we had booked in Costa Rica - and I have a feeling it will remain just that!

I enjoyed my night tour with Nousa Tours: I saw lots of nightlife including a tarantula, a baby sloth with its mother, moss walking sticks, a motmot, a Side-striped palm-pit viper, and even a sleeping Stripe-tailed Hummingbird. What a night! My guide took pictures of the fauna and sent them to us at the end of the tour. This tour was amazing!

Had a great time in the Monteverde Reserve and our tour guide Elvin was great. He helped us to find some amazing animals and had a lot of knowledge about the forest!

We enjoyed a private bird-watching tour with Jasdiel in Monteverde. It was great! Jasdiel is himself an avid birder, so his knowledge and ability to quickly identify species was fantastic. Beyond just spotting birds, he offered a lot of insight into the ecology and history of the area. He also helped us get a few nice photos with our cell phones through his spotting scope. Highly recommend this tour group, and Jasdiel in particular!

It was my first night tour and I enjoyed it very much. I already did a guided nature walk in the morning but walking around in the dark trying to spot animals with your flashlight is a whole other experience and totally worth it.

We were a small group with 5 people, which was great. (group size max 6 people). Everyone was respectful and focused on getting the most out of the experience. We passed a few other groups that were much bigger and people were talking loudly, (a little disturbing).

Oscar was truly an expert in spotting animals and sharing knowledge. His passion and enthusiasm could be felt the entire time. During the 2hour tour, we saw birds, snakes, spiders and birds...time went by too fast - I could have walked around for longer.

Price: The tour costs $25 plus $8 entrance fee for the Reserve. Well worth it!

We booked 2 tours with Oscar, the night tour & a morning bird watching tour. We can confirm it’s the best night tour in Monteverde and the best bird watching tour in Monteverde.

Oscar is super passionate about all animals but especially birds, he has a an astounding breadth of knowledge and was able to answer any questions we had. We were super lucky we managed to see toucans, quetzals & the most surprising of all an Ocelot on the night tour.

If you want someone who is passionate, professional, knowledgeable and very personable Oscar is your man!

We had a private night tour with Oscar and had a wonderful experience. Oscar makes all the difference - kind, respectful, and so passionate and knowledgeable about the forest and it’s inhabitants! He loved answering our questions and educating us about the critters we were looking for. We saw a monkey family settling in for the night, a sloth from afar, a tarantula hunkered down in its hideaway, leaf cutter ants galore, walking stick/stick bugs AND the things in the pics… a couple types of toucans, a couple venomous side striped pit vipers (we watched one slither up a tree over several minutes, I have cool video), a cute little hidden frog, and the Violet Sabrewing hummingbird. He knows where to look for the animals and coordinates with other guides to show you the largest variety of animals he can. I highly recommend this tour with Oscar!

We had two tours with Oscar - a night tour and an early morning, private birdwatching tour. Both tours were just incredible. Oscar is a great guide with a huge knowledge about local fauna and flora. We booked our tours in advance via email.

Oscar was a highlight of our trip!
His passion was contagious. We wouldn't consider ourselves 'birders', but were immediately drawn in to seeking out each bird and learning more about it.
What I most appreciated is that Oscar picked up on our interest of plants and pivoted the tour to teach us more about the interesting plants in the park.

We booked a night tour and a bird watching tour with Oscar and both were AMAZING! I definitely say he’s one of the best guides! He is very attentive and knows how to search animals / birds, as well as he also has great communication with other guides and they help to each other to find different animals. He loves nature and is very passionate about it, it seems he knows everything and will share this information with you! He’s great in both group tours (night tour wasn’t private, but the group was small - 4 persons only including us - and we’ve never felt lack of attention) and private tours (bird watching is a private tour). We would definitely repeat the experience when we are back to Montevedre!

Would really recommend to take a tour here! We did the Bird watching tour where Oscar was our guide, and I must say it really was far beyond expectations! Right from the start (06:10 in the morning) Oscar pointed out the most beautiful birds and really involved us (no experience in birding) in searching and determining which bird we saw. After this 'warming up' Oscar offered us two options depending on our interests: the Cloud Forrest or the Curi-Cancha Reserve. We wanted the highest change on Quetzals, so we went to the Cloud Forrest. Here it directly was clear how knowledgeable Oscar was, as he could tell you lots of information about each bird, while imitating all kinds of birds to find a next one (and yes, the birds did respond!). In the end we saw lots of beautiful birds and we were lucky to observe 2 juvenile Quetzals! Thank you Oscar for the great experience!

Booking a night time tour with Oscar was a smooth process and he made preparations painless where he kindly suggested for us to leave our belongings in his vehicle for safety, just in case. He gave us training on how to get accustomed to his powerful >$5k Swarovski Lens telescope where he set it up to look at a bird and the moon before entry into the forest. During the tour he encouraged the group to engage and ask a lot of questions. I did not hold back. I asked a plethora of questions and Oscar gave detailed answers and with his passion and enthusiasm our interest as a group increased. We saw many vipers, a sleeping bird that is known for dancing, Tuscan, frogs and Beatles during the excursion. And through the Swarovski telescope we saw incredible detail as if we were in a live documentary! We even got to see a spider eating a caterpillar and licking its fingers to clean itself. Incredible tour which was enhanced by Oscar’s love and passion to share his knowledge.

My wife and I had the pleasure of going on both a night and morning tour with Oscar in the Monteverde area. Not only is Oscar highly knowledgeable about animals, plants, and the ecology of the area, he's also a genuinely great guy that you want to explore the jungle with. He's extremely passionate about his work and we thoroughly enjoyed learning from him. Oscar has a keen eye and spotted wildlife we never would have. Between the two tours we had the opportunity to see keel billed toucans, vipers, scorpions, tarantulas, capuchin monkeys, a quetzal, sloths, coati, and numerous other birds. Not only did he help us spot these animals, but he also helped us get amazing photos using his scope. If you want to make the most out of your time in Monteverde, Oscar is your guy.

My sister and I found Oscar at Nasua tours, last minute ,as we hadn’t booked birding guides before arriving at Monteverde. He was the best of the 4 guides that we went with during our tour of Costa Rica. Not only did he know the ornithology and plants, but he had a great ear,eye, and whistles!
