Hotel Trópico Monteverde

I had such a comfortable stay at Hotel Tropico. From the moment you arrive the staff and the owner, Jose, make you feel at home. I had dinner on the first night in the restaurant and Jose made sure to introduce himself and make sure we had all of our activities planned for the next day. Nancy and Cristal were both friendly and wonderful and really helped me when I needed a last minute taxi or when my tour didn't arrive. It was such a nice feeling to stay at a hotel so small that everyone knows who you are and cares about you.

The dinner I ate here was one of the best dinners I had in Monteverde, with a very unique menu. I had an early morning tour scheduled and they let me put in my breakfast order the night before and even came to breakfast early so I could make my tour. I enjoyed eating the to-order breakfast (I got a fruit place an an omelet with coffee and fresh juice).

Besides the incredible staff, the room was very comfortable, clean, and spacious. I liked that the hotel was a little outside the town so that it was quiet and calm. The only issue I had was that at night the wind can be very loud, but I got used to it and slept well. The location is great, and it's not difficult to walk to town (about 20min), but taking a quick taxi was often an easier option. The property is really nice and the views of the valley are breathtaking. I would stay here again in a heartbeat.

We had an amazing experience. Jose was an angel for us. He got us out of an Airbnb nightmare even though it was late at night. He takes pride in caring for his property, super clean and great service. The massage service and restaurant was excellent as well. The property itself is located in a great area with beautiful views. We highly recommend and would stay here again if we find ourselves in Monteverde again.

This place has the most breathtaking sunsets of anywhere I've ever stayed! My wife and I came here for our honeymoon and we made sure to come back every night at around 5:45 so we could sit outside on a bench and watch the sun setting over the mountains. The owner was also incredibly kind and clearly has taken great care to make Hotel Tropico a magical place.

Jose, the owner, is lovely and the restaurant high quality food and service. The view and the tranquility of the hotel surpassed my expectations. The location is also a winner as it is relatively protected from the wind compared to downtown Monteverde which is still a short (20mjn) walk away! Our room was very comfortable and slept so well. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Had an amazing time at Hotel Tropico in Monteverde, Costa Rica! The place is all about the views, and man, do they deliver. They've got to have one of the top 10 sunset spots in Central America, no joke. Every evening was like watching a live painting right from our room. And speaking of the rooms, the glass fronts are a brilliant touch. You get this incredible view all day long, making it hard even to want to leave your room!

The location is spot on too. It's super close to everything. We were just a quick 10-minute ride from Downtown, and getting to the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve was a breeze, less than 20 minutes away. So, we could dive into nature or swing back to civilization whenever we felt like it.

And gotta give a shoutout to Jose, the manager. The guy's incredible. Really warm and went out of his way to make our stay memorable. He knows how to make guests feel special and totally at home.

If you're heading to Monteverde, staying at Hotel Tropico is a no-brainer. Great views, awesome location, and top-notch hospitality. Would 100% recommend!

Had a lovely stay here & would highly recommend it! Everything was lovely. The room itself was spacious, clean, and had STUNNING view.
The team, manager Jose, and front desk staff were SO kind and helpful. They helped me book activities with transportation, and were just lovely to chat with.
Staying here truly felt like vacation, and I hope to return in the future!

This hotel was incredible. The moment we walked in, we were impressed by how immaculate the room was, both in cleanliness as well as decor. The furniture, walls, tile... Just about everything, felt like it was brand new. It's clear that the owner, Jose, takes a great deal of pride in maintaining his property. Additionally, the view from our casita was absolutely stunning. Despite it being rainy season, this felt like a little retreat because we had our own personal patio where we could watch the rain and enjoy this space. Having a restaurant on site was excellent. I would recommend booking direct through the website, rather than through a hotel affiliate website, as Jose specifically told us that he includes breakfast when you book through the hotel site itself. The hotel was able to book activities for us, and the location is only about a 5 minute drive from the middle of town. The shower was actually incredible, with a rain shower that had awesome water pressure and they stone floor that made it feel very spa-like. Overall cannot recommend this property enough.

Only a short 10 minute drive to the main town of Santa Elena, Hotel Tropico is situated perfectly on top of the mountain with clear views of the west side of Costa Rica. Jose, the owner, greeted us saying “I don’t have clients, I have friends.” And throughout our stay, that’s definitely what we felt like. There’s an intimacy that Jose and his staff invoked with their guests that truly makes you feel as if you’re coming home after a long day of adventure.

Each lodge is basically its own small bungalow/home with its separate walkways, a patio with outdoor seating furniture, sliding glass doors (so you have an open view to the sunset), a spacious room and a nice bathroom. The hotel restaurant is also pretty good, serving Italian dishes.

There is plenty of parking and a really easy commute to the main town by car. Jose gave us his personal recommendations for food, shopping, and tours and they were all fantastic.

I will absolutely recommend Hotel Tropico for anyone who’s visiting Monteverde.

How is this place only a 3 star accommodation? I can’t say enough how pleasant, relaxing, and accommodating Jose was for us. We were booked at another local establishment and considering leaving the area early due to the poor conditions. Once we saw this place and met Jose and family, we felt instantly at home! The room are spacious and very well adorned. Bed was huge and comfy. But the best……the view! Oh my God!! The view and sunsets are amazing. Thank you Jose!

The pictures of the view really dont do this place justice. The view from all of the rooms is fantastic. The manager Jose is extremely nice and super helpful, the breakfast at the restaurant served delicious food and juice (& Coffee!). Overall a great place with clean beautiful rooms and great views. We will be coming back.

What a treasure of a hotel! Atop verdant mountains, an incredible view, facilities beyond reproach with luxury bedding, comfortable mattresses, lovely exotic wood decks and a vaulted ceiling! Jose has thought of everything to make ones stay perfect. There is also a lovely attached restaurant. Reservations for adventures are made with Jose’s local expertise. He booked us a private nocturnal rainforest tour with Johnny Villalobos, who was a superb guide. We are having a fantastic time!

My husband and I spent three fantastic nights of our honeymoon at Hotel Tropico. Jose (owner) and Gustavo were very present on the grounds, going above and beyond to make our stay extra special and always easily accessible for good conversation and recommendations. Jose made fires every night at sunset and was very pleasant. Gustavo booked all of our activities and served us every night. They truly pride themselves with this hotel and it is obvious why. The restaurant was fantastic. The rooms are very comfortable. The view is even better in person. I wouldn’t consider any other property in Monteverde and cannot wait to come back.

My daughter and I spent a relaxing four nights at this wonderful hotel. The rooms are clean and well appointed. José and his staff were extremely welcoming, caring and attentive. The view is magnificent. The restaurant is excellent. We will definitely stay again when we return to Monteverde.

A great place to have dinner at sunset! The staff is very friendly and the food was amazing. We didn't stay here. Dinner only. But I highly recommend visiting

We spent two nights at this absolutely perfect place with an even more picture perfect view in the morning. I had the duck entree at the restaurant that was by far the best meal I've ate in costa rica. Every detail put into this place is surreal. I will return!!!!

Arrived here after a four hour drive from Arenal. Was greeted by Jose with warmth and a welcome drink on the house from Gustavo!! This property had best view of any point in our Costa Rica trip. The restaurant is also terrific. I would come back to Costa Rica just to stay here.

Great view and good cabin. We recommend a guided tour with Johnny! He is the best guide, he sees (and knows) everything, has a good sense of humour and really takes his time. We did two tours with him and it was perfect. You can arrange this with the staff from the hotel.

Our stay here was extraordinary. José, the owner, went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and enjoying our stay. He made sure to suggest the best excursions, and he took care of all the booking details. He embodies everything about Pura Vida! He is such a kind and generous person, and he cares deeply about his community and his business. The staff here are also excellent. I can’t say enough great things about the rooms (the waterfall shower alone is worth it!), the view (heavenly!), the location, the on-site restaurant, and the hospitality. We will definitely be back, and we will definitely make it a priority to stay here again. It breaks my heart to leave such an amazing place. ❤

My husband and I stayed here for a couple of days on our honeymoon. The view from this sweet little hotel was breathtaking! Talk about a beautiful sunrise. The owner was incredibly gracious, kind and honest. It was a quiet area and there were only a few little bungalows with a restaurant onsite. They were as accommodating as possible to all of our dietary needs. It was very close to the rainforest where you can zip line and enjoy the sky bridge hike too. 🧡🧡🧡
