I did the hike with my kids 11 yo, 7 yo and 3 yo. My kids are used to do hiking but we were not prepared for the mud. I saw people in rain boots, hard to hike in but I guess the best option. Driving from Bogota to the there was one of the hardest part. My 3 yo got nauseated from the sharp curves. The $40,000 entrance fee wasn’t clear in the website. It’s definitely no toddler or senior friendly. We arrive around 9:00 am to the ticket place and the restaurant was not serving breakfast. They had delicious empanadas. We reserved lunch at the Cuban restaurant. For fit people it is worth it to make it . It’s breathtaking. The landscape it’s beautiful. It took us 1.5 hrs getting from the ticket place to the fall.

Surprisingly many locals don’t know about this place and have never been which ia crazy to me. The hike it’s definitely worth it and it was my favorite part of visiting bogota, a quick escape from the hustle and bustle. So, here’s what I did (cheap and easy):
- Uber to transoriente bus station (between calle 6 and av. Caracas) and take the 8:00 am or 8:30 am bus to Choachí but let the driver know to drop you off at la chorrera and take a window seat on the left (trust me). Bus: $9,000 Cop (Aug/2023)
- At the drop off spot there’ll be people offering a ride to the entrance in a 4x4 (16,000 - 20,000 cop depending on your negotiation skills but always expect a gringo tax) i recommend taking it. I decided not to take it to walk and enjoy the views and it took me 1 hour to get to the entrance at a good pace, in retrospective I would’ve taken the ride.
- There are like 4-5 different entry fees / packages starting at 40,000 cop. All of them include fruit, small bottle of water, chocolate bar, colombian candy and a small bag which definitely made my life easier. I went for the one that included a delicious lunch (diff options: pork, beef, vegetarian and fish) for the solid price of 60,000 cop.
- Solid hike with steep paths but easier than expected even tho I had that extra 1 hour to get to the entrance. Expect a total of 3-4 hours depending on you physical condition and pace. I spent a total of 6 hours from the bus drop-off and back including lunch time and time for taking pictures and resting at the waterfall. You can’t swim tho :(
- To return to bogota you can take another ride to the highway and catch a colectivo. A guy charged me $16,000 cop total including the colectivo ride to Bogota which is $9,000 so you only need to figure out how to get to the highway. Colectivos will stop when they see you by the highway.

Happy trails!

Awesome place! I took the public bus from Bogota and hiked from the road to the entrance. Well organized and worth the fee. Could be crowded on the weekends.

What a surprisingly amazing place so close to the capital that even many locals don't know about it. Tallest series of waterfalls in Colombia (590m) about an hour and a half drive from Bogotá. Entry is tiered based on a choice of lunch (no lunch is around $10) and always includes a little gift bag. Unnecessary but nice I guess.

It's a real hike to get to the actual waterfall so reasonable gear is required. My Google fit was showing 10km total walked for that day, together with high altitude and steepish climbs. Not the hardest but took more energy than expected.

The views and the power of the water fall - totally worth the effort!

Breathtaking scenery! Beautiful nature. Waterfalls are some of the most beautiful things I visited in my life, so powerful but so relaxing. It's the highest in Columbia, 60th highest in the world.
I'm greatful and so happy I had opportunity to visit it. We had great guide and small group of 5 people, it was beautiful sunny day no rain at all, just perfect adventure!
We all need more natural in our lives. This place is very safe if you behaving normal of course.

Amazing experience, I feel like a new person, the energy and the beauty were breathtaking.
You are able to get really close to the waterfall, you can almost shower in it, I literally left soaking wet (bring clothes and shoes to change) the hiking is really nice you get a beautiful view, it's not extremely hard but it's not that easy, if you never exercise you'll probably will be sore next day. It takes around 2 hours to get to the waterfall from the parking lot and another 1:30 to get from the main road to the parking lot so my advice is to get transportation that will get you all the way to the parking lot. Keep in mind it is kind of cold there so bring a light jacket.
The best season to visit it at the rainy season so you can see the waterfall at it's best.

It's a must to visit, there is bus from Bogotá that goes to choachí, tell the driver that you want to go to la cascada de Chorrera, it's 10 mil pesos (3 USD) per person and less than two hours ride, when you get there ask for a jeep to take you to the entrance, it costs 5 mil pesos (1.5 USD), after that there is a beautiful two hours walk, there are two waterfalls, make sure to visit both, there is a Cubian resturant with tasty food, tell him that your Iranian friend send me so he will tell you the story of mojito and he will add something very special to your drink (don't worry it's not a drug or something), you can camp there with just 10 (3 USD) mil per person. the entrance fee is 15 mil pesos (5 USD). Have fun, breath and keep the environment clean.

This is one of those magical hidden gem experiences. Not a ton of people visit even though the waterfall and nature trail are strikingly beautiful. La Chorrera is the tallest waterfall in all of Colombia. There is a special awe inspiring feeling as you approach the waterfall across the rolling green hills. It’s not the easiest to get to but when you arrive it will be well worth the effort.

Awesome hike going through two waterfalls, one big one and one enormous one where the hike ends! It's South America's sixth tallest waterfall, at 590 meters or 1930 ft, and only about an hour from Bogota, so it's 110% worth a visit! The hike isn't too difficult but it's at very high elevation (4000 m, 12,000 ft).

This place is wonderful
The landscapes you will see during the path are unique and is not far from Bogota, just one hour far away. The entrance fee is 12.000 COP and it will really worth.
Totally recommended

One of the tallest I've ever seen! Worth the long walk to get there. We did it with a guide to learn more about the place. But easily done by yourself.

Chorrera is a great day trip from Bogota. We secured a private driver from our hotel for $100USD. The drive took about an hour and a half. The hike took 2 hours round trip and the scenery was spectacular. There were very few tourists on the hike which was a nice change from the busy city. We ended off the hike with a delicious Cuban lunch with Mojito’s which only cost $25 for lunch and drinks.

Unbelievable place! It can be difficult to get to but it’s easy if you take a day tour with an agency or split the cost of the journey with a group in an Uber. Definitely worth it!

Amazing waterfall! Almost 2,000ft tall. Beautiful hike to and from the waterfall through the Rainforest. You can book tours from Bogota, but we just paid a taxi guy yo wait for us at the location. This was a much cheaper option and gave us time to explore the area.
