Discovered this place by accident. Wonderful Izakaya. Great to meet kind staff. The food is delicious. The flavors really stood out. I really enjoyed the sliced pork with a smokey flavor. The rose teobbokki had that spicy kick to it. Excellent! Keep up the great work chefs!

What a great spot especially for a light, late night eat! I’ve been seeking out spots that offer healthier options for late night eats and Mikaku hits the nail on the head! Beyond that, the serve from Miyoung and the rest of the staff really made our dining experience extremely memorable and enjoyable! The beef tartare and takowasabi were among my favourite! Even the fried dishes such as the yuzu karaage were very lightly battered and didn’t taste overly oily. I felt super satisfied after my meal! Definitely adding Mikaku to my list of got to restaurants!

My sister and I stumbled upon Mikaku Izakaya on Yonge Street, and what a delightful discovery it turned out to be! The inviting ambiance of this Japanese resto-bar instantly drew us in for dinner, and we're so glad we decided to give it a try.

From the moment we were seated, the service at Mikaku Izakaya was exceptional. Our server was not only friendly but also extremely helpful in recommending their most popular dishes. This being our first visit, we were excited to try something new.

The dish we ordered exceeded our expectations. It came with a salad and a variety of vegetables, which I initially thought I might not enjoy, as I'm not usually a fan of salads. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself savoring every bite of the salad and the accompanying veggies. The secret, I believe, was the incredible sauce that elevated the flavors to a whole new level. It was so delicious that I couldn't resist finishing every last bite.

I tried this place for the first time with a friend's recommendation and from seeing all the delicious pictures circulating online. This place sports a nice night chill vibe with Korean and Japanese food fusions and drinks.

We ordered a lot of items to share and they were all super delicious. My favourite of the night was definitely the Spicy Cream Udon. The sauce lived up to its name and was super creamy and flavourful, I just couldn't stop eating it.

Definitely want to come back here again for more and maybe even order a drink to pair with it.

Overall great experience.

It’s our first time trying out this izakaya. We have seen many IG post about this place.

We parked at the back parking lot and went in from the back door.

Staff is welcoming and we were lucky to get a table without any wait. We were seated near the entrance and the staff was very caring to provide me with blanket and turned on the heater.

Food is on the more expensive side for uptown standard and we were very disappointed that the sake we wanted is not available; however, the whole experience/ atmosphere/ service make up for it.

The beef tartare is pretty frozen when it was served. We had to wait a bit before we enjoy it.

The pork belly is bite size and good for sharing with large group.

Grill saba is pretty regular, nothing outstanding. I probably won't order this again.

My favourite Izakaya in the area. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is great at most times. Some patrons get pretty loud after a few drinks but it's to be expected.

I am obsessed with the food at this place.
FOOD: (menu recently changed)
The food is amazing, creative and tasty. It's not at all super salty like other izakaya to get you buy more drinks. I really want to try the rest of the menu and definitely will come back for the food.

DRINKS: there's a long list of sake and other drinks but quite pricey so I go with the beer only.

VIBE: small area but chill and cozy vibe.

SERVICE: decent and friendly

This place is relatively smaller than others, but the service and the dishes are the best.
I love all the dishes I ordered last night, the chef definitely did a good job.
Chicken, pork, beef and udon are awesome, basically nothing you should be missed. I think there are some dishes that are off the menu and you may want to ask the server ahead.
There are parking spaces at the rear of the restaurant as well and you may access the back door.
The only thing I hope for is to have more options of non alcoholic beverages, so that customers could still hang out to the fun while they couldn't drink alcohol under certain physical conditions.

Hands down the best Izakaya in North York. They don't take reservations (at least on weekends) but this place is definitely worth the wait. There isn't anything about the food to complain about, everything was absolutely stellar. The menu isn't very extensive which makes it easy to choose from. Service can be a bit spotty during peak hours, but that is to be expected. Prices were pretty standard compared to similar places in the area. The intimate environment made mikaku a very cozy and comfortable place for food and drinks with some friends. I definitely would come back.

Fantastic place. The waitress/bartender was one of the highlights. She was very accommodating and would tell us the best ways to enjoy some of the dishes. Definitely outstanding service.

The food is also great. All the dishes the server recommended were our favourites. The cheese rice cake and buka (pork belly) were probably the biggest highlights. Definitely a different taste and take on familiar dishes, definitely worth a try and the prices aren't too costly for what you get.

Great selection of drinks- their drinks menu is like 7 pages of sake. Definitely worth a look, or grab a giant can of Asahi.

Cozy and comfortable as well, the place was packed on a weekday night. There's also one heated tatami (?) Where you take off your shoes and sit, which is pretty cool as an option. Parking in the area isn't the best - easy to drive past the tiny lot, but I feel like there are more options to park than further down Yonge which is nice.

Would give this place 10/5 if I could!

An excellent izakaya deserving of it's high reviews here. The service is very nice and thoughtful, giving us extra details like where the washroom is and that the bar has no seating limit unlike the tables without prompting, and were consistent in checking in with us throughout our stay there.

The food too is SO good, I really would want to come back to try some other dishes. The tartar was very flavorful and the fried cheese delicious as well. The creamy rice cakes in the bread bowl was really unique and filling with seafood and vegetables, and the crispy outside bread with the soft cream soaked inside bottom paired really well together. They also don't skimp out on the portions. We also got one of the yuzu sake bottle to share which was refreshing - unfortunately the peach and pear ones were sold out.

Overall, definitely worth coming for a good time and good food!

Excellent izakaya in north york. Atmosphere is great as izakaya. Food is amazing with various selection of sake. I really like the grilled caramari and the creamy udon. The oden soup is abit on the salty msg side.

Service was incredible, food was delicious, will most definitely come back again! Out of the bunch, I had personally ordered the takoyaki and the salmon tataki. Both beautifully presented and absolutely delicious. Loved the atmosphere as well. Felt very intimate but great for a small/large group of 7-10 (you’d be seated near the window. Or for smaller groups of 2-4 they have semi-private seating as well.

Will be back for more @nomsoftoronto

Wow what a pleasant surprise! Known for its Sake selection, which is top notch, it was the food that stole the show. Such unique flavours and execution in a Izakaya is simply not the norm.

Small menu but every dish was a surprise in flavour. From a beef tataki (think tartar) to butter squid? C'mon which bar will serve that up? Staff was nice enough to give us a pork belly dish on the house.

My new favourite place if a few friends want to go for a drink + GOOD food. Makes beer and wings feel like a waste of time! Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.

Food is great at mikaku! We ordered the pork belly and the spicy cream udon which are both a must get. The pork belly is salty and smokey and the udon is creamy and slightly sweet. Staff are super sweet and accommodating. The restaturant space is small so you might have to wait during peak times for a table.
