This was a highlight of my trip. The grounds are beautiful and the house was fascinating and filled with all the original families belongings. We were fortunate enough to get a tour guide named Brittania. She was a lot of fun and really gave a personal touch to the tour. It was obvious that the group was happy with her.

The house is absolutely stunning! The tour guides were incredibly kind and had taken photos of me and answered whatever questions I had. The stories of the Harris and Sayers families are quite fascinating and learning about how people lived back then was intriguing. I highly recommend booking a tour here, it free!

Immersive historic experience with enthusiastic & passionate tour guides. There are multiple tours to choose from. I chose forgotten black history. Be sure to bring cash for your donation as they do not accept debit or credit donations (Jan 7th/2023).

We were lucky to walk in just as a tour was starting out so we joined up. The guide was not only knowledgeable about the area but also enthusiastic about the family. It made the trip around the house fun. A great piece of local history.

We just went for a walk on the grounds, and to listen to the music presentation, sitting on a nice little treed glade facing the patio, a little oasis from the city.

A must place to visit in mississauga. Never knew mississauga is rich with history until my sister took me here you will feel like you are in one of old hollywood movies. Its really gorgeous in fall to be around here and learnt interesting history about the family and house architecture.

great house , they have preserved a lot of stuff. If you are wondering about the name of the house, it is a city in india that has a lot of cultural significance.

Very well maintained historic house from 1836.

Hats off to City of Mississauga team. Free this summer because of Canada's 150 Birthday. Must visit this place if you are around.

What an interesting historic house! So many wonderful photographs, artefacts, original furniture, personal items such as clothes and jewelry, dishes, children's toys all belonging to the Benares Family and so perfectly preserved to this day! and how interesting the guide told us stories about the past. I highly recommend visiting this historic house with a family, with children, it will be informative for everyone! Thanks a lot for the welcoming atmosphere and knowledgeable tour we had a chance to enjoy today.

Excellent private tour hosted by Sarah. We had the whole house to ourselves for an hour and our guide was extremely knowledgeable about the property and time period. It was very interesting to see and hear how life was.

Another informative tour by Mississauga Museum. Highly recommended for families with school-age children. A great education opportunity learning a bit more about the city we live in. Onsite parking available. Check their website for other events and programs available throughout the year.

I'd suggest all to book the tour, it's free (pls donate), and the lady was very good! We were only one family of 4, but she still did a nice tour and explain everything!

Now, the important point, this house felt like mildly haunted. I didn't feel anything sold (like I did in the old house in Bronte Creek Provincial Park, which is a proven haunted house). However, several indications were there in this old house as well:

a. The old lady portrait, her eyes were too vivid, it felt like she was watching, and she was not happy that someone disturbed the house
b. The was given to Ontario to preserve as a museum, no one is living there for the last 50+ years
c. Darkness under the house, you can see it, and you can feel it, there's something hiding there
d. Basement, cold room, the floor is not finished, and if you look carefully, you will see some prints
e. Player Piano, not sure if it plays itself at midnight, didn't stay that long to figure out

Anyway, Halloween is here, good to go there and take a look, share if you can find more proofs. BTW, if you have weak heart, and too scared to watch scary movies, think twice before going there! :)

This place had a very informative tour. I recommend it - I learned about Dr. Dixie, a doctor that practiced locally and after which was named Dixie Road.

One comment: I just wish you could donate actual physical money instead of doing it electronically, post-tour, as seniors are not great with such things and forget about it once you leave the property -- not to mention, they aren't always tech savvy. A good ol' donation box would be a great thing to have for a good ol' historic property.
