Hotel Royal SPA Velingrad

Loved this place. We came only for spa. 40 lv for the whole day. Different saunas, jacuzzi, swimming pool. Loved it! The only thing- they have a strange life guard, old man with creepy look. Felt uncomfortable how he was staring 😕

Very good and even better than most 4-stars hotels. Big rooms with spacious baths, clean and well
furnished. The towels and the bed linen are changed every day.
One of the best SPA centers I have seen in Bulgaria.

Velingrad - the spa capital of the Balkans. It sounds cliché until you visit the Royal Spa Hotel. Friendly and modern interior, and when you visit the relaxation areas, then you understand that you are in the right place. The abundance of spa areas - saunas, pools, steam rooms bathrooms etc. is combined as well as possible and regardless of the number of guests, you can enjoy the wealth of nature - the mineral springs - at any moment. Regarding breakfast and dinner (I had pre-paid meals) they were stunning. The abundance, variety and high quality of the food was top notch. Something that is rare and few hotels can boast of. Hotel Royal Spa Velingrad is - as I understand it - the second-fanciest hotel in Velingrad. It's situated on a hillside overlooking the valley. The hotel offers a large number and variety of indoor and outdoor bathing - I counted ten separate pools of various sizes, depths and temperatures. We missed visiting the very long outdoor pool.

Our room booking included a very large room ("apartment" they call it), free access to the entire thermal spa, and breakfast and dinner buffets.

The room was very spacious, sparsely furnished and had a small balcony. The mattress was foam and we didn't enjoy sleeping on them. The pillows are what I call "German style" - I did not like them either. The water pressure - GREAT. Nice terrycloth robes were provided and we were free to wear these around the hotel to and from the spa area. Robes cannot be worn to meals.
Everyone wears swimming suits in the spa area. I didn't notice any nudity anywhere.

If you ever get your fill of the swimming, there are also chess tables, a few coin operated games, billiards table and some gambling tables. There's a play room suitable for young children and babies.

Not all staff spoke English. Most, however, could speak either English or Russian. All the staff were pleasant and helpful.

The meals were fantastic. Lush buffets with plenty of food, lots and lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, olives, spicy pickles, local cheeses, a chocolate fountain. Our picky eater child tried 3 or 4 totally new foods during our stay. We found Bulgarian dinners to feature braised meats, various concoctions of melted cheese, and barbecued fish. Excellent buffet examples included: braised veal shin with prunes. Or braised pork neck with mushrooms. Or roasted vegetable risotto.

We recommend not to sample pasta in Bulgaria, as 4/4 times at various restaurants, including this hotel - we found pasta overcooked. From the hotel breakfast coffee machines, espresso is good but other options are poor.

The spa is monitored by a lifeguard. Their rules include not leaving any young children unattended. Swimmers in the large pool are very patient to swim around playing children. There is also a designated indoor toddler's pool. The spa area in addition to swimming, also offers a large choice of saunas, steam rooms etc. and massages. We had three great massages by a woman from Bali. The massages are run by a separate company and cannot be billed to the room.
The hotel doesn't provide floating toys, but they can be bought in the town centre from any "детски" shop.

The hotel provided unrestricted internet. There were quite a few similarly named networks we were able to join from our room. When a connection went down, we were always able to find another working one to switch to.

The location in the town is not very nice for exploring. The nearby streets are in poor condition and uphill of the hotel is construction sites and new buildings. It was an extremely difficult 20 minute walk to get to the forest above the hotel. Downhill you find a run-down neighbourhood without safe pavements for walking. Our stay: February 2023.

The commercial centre of town is about 5-10 minutes' walk. There you can find parks, playgrounds, cake shops, coffee and a lot of toy stores.

I've stayed in this hotel around 8 times now - one of the best SPA centers in Bulgaria, the staff is always nice and the food in the restaurant is quite delicious.

One of the best Hotels&Spa in Velingrad I have been.
Location is perfect above the city so you have incredible views over the surrounding mountain peaks.
The hotel itself is medium size, very nice design and enough space.
Amazing restaurant, great bar.

But most of all the hotel staff is very polite and cooperative.

Definitely the best spa I have visited in Bulgaria so far, panoramic steam bath is a must to experience.

I will visit again and will recommend.

Big, clean and spacious rooms with a bath, big TV, fridge. The Spa centre was incredible! There were lots of jacuzzi inside and outside, few swimming pools, few saunas and steam rooms! Staff were friendly and kind! Animation team were great too! The food was amazing.

I had a wonderful experience at the Royal Spa Velingrad. Every staff member I encountered, from the valet to the check- in to the cleaning staff were delightful and eager to help! Thank you!
Also this is the perfect hotel for a weekend getaway and the Royal Spa Hotel offers everything you need if you don’t feel like venturing out.

I’m really happy with my overall experience. The staff was polite and friendly, we had breakfast included in the price which was a plus. It was our second stay in this hotel and I noticed the first time around, the room was much bigger, but we paid the same price, but we just didn’t bother asking at reception. We would stay there again.

It was an amazing relief to see that such a hotel was still in quite a good shape. We had the chance to go through most of the amenities that the hotel offered us. All of them were fine. The spa center was in good shape. All the spills were cleaned and swiped so no one can hurt himself.
The saunas were regularly temperature controlled so there relatively hot.
The two things I can emphasize as a place for improvement were the lack of clocks. I had to wear a watch with me so I can monitor the time I spend out there.
The second thing is the air pollution within the let says so the upper part of the restaurant or the second floor. Sometimes we had that scent of a bakery.

Although that I'd like to thank all of the staff for their professionalism and attention to the details.
I had a really good stay with a pleasant experience.

Definitely the best hotel in Velingrad for me. Everything is perfect. The spa and the massages are great. The food is tasty. The prices are reasonable for the service.

Basically the best spa service IMO

My family and I visited this wonderful place last week. Everything was great starting from the welcome, a polite staff takes care of your bags while you are greeted with a glass of fine champagne in the lobby. I was pleasantly surprised by the spaciousness of the rooms since most modern hotels make me feel claustrophobic. Let’s not forget the fantastic spa facilities and the numerous warm and clean pools. Breakfast was acceptable but nothing to rave about, same can be said for dinner which you have to pay extra for. Overall I can say that we had a pleasant experience with virtually nothing to complain about which is foreign to me.

The cozy rooms, the food, the SPA, the staff, and I personally want to suggest a masseuse called Rihanna. She just hit every spot and her energy is out of this world. Super humble professional.

Totally amazing Place!

My favourite hotel ever!!! I’ve been there 5times and i will visit this place again and again.

All was excellent here!

The spa has a huge selection of hot and cold pools, steam baths, various saunas and relaxing rooms with heated stones.
The rooms were very clean. A great plus was that every room no matter VIP or not, had a bathtub!

The food was very tasty and fresh. And the service was up to standard!

In general, I’m nicely surprised the spa is quite big compared to similar hotels, staff was friendly and supportive, breakfast was good especially the banitsa was like homemade, I loved how the rooms are decorated too. One thing I didn’t like is that one of the outside pools was extremely hot 🥵 so we decided to go in the other one but unfortunately it was covered we asked if it’s working and it became clear that the lifeguard forgot to unfold it a few other people asked about as well and it was 11 o’clock and the spa is supposed to be working since 8 o’clock.. it took a while to be done .. but finally one friendly I guess maintenance guy did it cause they couldn’t find the person who is supposed to . But the spa is great anyways!

This was my first time staying in Velingrad, and chose the Royal Spa Hotel after a lot of research of the best spa hotels in the area. After my stay, I can say with confidence that I would likely return to Velingrad and to the same hotel.

Positive feedback - the spa amenities were exactly as I expected, with the hotel using the Victoria Spa brand that I was already used to in Sofia, it met my expectations. I appreciated the many varieties of saunas, the steam room and the mineral water pools. I felt that they were clean and well maintained. The outdoor summer pool was also clean and very enjoyable to swim in.
- I felt the hotel staff were (for the most part) extremely helpful and hospitable. A special word must be mentioned for the chambermaids especially Katya and Slavka who cleaned my room to perfection, Lilly at reception who helped us iron out some small issues throughout our stay, David (the restaurant assistant manager) who listened to and took on board some feedback about his staff and finally Mr Raidovsky (the hotel manager) who freed up some time to listen to feedback we had due to an early problem with the room.
- The buffet breakfast was extremely pleasant and they had many options that could cater for all preferences.
- Our room (luxury double room) was maintained to a good standard and showed minimal signs of wear.
- The hotel is walking distance to central Velingrad so allowed us to explore the town as well as enjoy the mineral water it is famous for.

Negative feedback - one small hiccup during our stay was 'reserving' a chaise lounge by the outdoor pool. We had woken up early to lay our towels on a specific sunbed, and after having breakfast saw that they were moved by someone. Perhaps the hotel should introduce a more organised way of 'reserving' sunbeds so that guests are not left disappointed.
- we tried the buffet dinner one night, however it wouldn't harm for you to leave the complex and explore some restaurants in velingrad. There is a mehana about 10 minutes walk from the complex, and a bigger restaurant (Lukovitsa) about 15 minutes walk from the hotel.
- as another reviewer mentioned the layout of the hotel is slightly disorientating with the different wings, however after a day or two you begin to adjust. Maybe printing off a small map for the guests would help!

All in all I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to my friends and family - both Bulgarian and foreign nationals. I think it was excellent value for money and would love to come again.

Great place! Large Spa centre, very nice for the children. Many different pools. Also great hot pool outside. The food was great. The daycare was very good. There are many family games. We had really wonderful time! Definitely recommend it!
