Thursday to Tuesday (10 am-4:30 pm) Closed on Wednesday.

Mass: Sunday (5 pm)
Possibility to confess: Tuesday (12-1 pm) and Friday/Saturday (11-1 pm) in Flemish, English, French, Spanish, Italian and German.

The entrance to the church is Mathieu de Layensplein (only steps) or Margarethaplein (disabled access).

A masterpiece of Brabant Gothic, the St. Peter collegiate church is the oldest church in Leuven/Louvain (1425 for the current Gothic church). The church underwent a major restoration, after the bombings in 1944.
A must see:
● Chair of Truth (Jacques Bergé, 1742) and Sedes Sapientiae (statue of the Virgin "Seat of Wisdom", emblem of the University of Leuven/Louvain, 1442)
● The Treasure of St. Peter (collection of religious goldwork from the 15th-17th centuries) / PAID ACCESS
● Mausoleum of Henry I, first Duke of Brabant (13th century)
● Flemish primitives: Triptych of the Nobles (1443), the Last Supper (1464-1468) and the martyrdom of St. Erasmus (before 1464) both artworks by Dirk Bouts
● Renaissance paintings (artworks by Jan Rombouts rediscovered in 2011)
● Meester Jan (Jacquemart returned to the spotlight in 1998, restoring an ancient tradition from 1381 which indicates the exact time by the sound of bells every quarter of an hour)
Art historians and art history lovers, this church is a must-see!

There weren’t any guides or audio guides available when visited. They have a crypt which I found quite gloomy and didn’t stop to check out properly.

Plenty of art and sculptures to see and check out.

Visited during a public bank holiday so I suspect that the place would be open on a Sunday as well.

The whole visit took about 25 minutes on the way to other places in Leuven.

For me it is place to stop, sit and think... everytime I can, I always go inside the church, I like these huge buildings full of peace... there is almost nothing special to see, but you can sit there for a while, relax, feel the place, fell the walls, windows, candles, even you can watch another people walking, taking pictures, sitting with you...

Stunning church with a fantastic exterior and interior. Not too busy, and very impressive and humbling to be inside. The woodwork of the pulpit among others is amazing, and so is the stonework of the exterior.

Another site you could hardly miss is Saint Peter’s Church, which is near the town hall. The Church is beautiful but I feel its inside decorations are too modern 😂.

Entrance is free. Nice church. Not so large. There is an interesting collection of paintings inside.

This church is simply nice from outside to inside. You can feel the peacefulness as walking inside.

We had visited this church a couple years ago in the summer, and it was under renovation. It was still a lovely experience. We visited again recently in early spring, and it is even more wonderful. Very nice to see the full building, and a beautiful place any time.

Nice gothic church with a very interesting flemish art collection. To get acquainted with the art better you can use VR glasses or special tablets.

Stunning! The square and the buildings take you to a place which feels like pást centuries' wonderland. Must see experience especially at night when the lightning is on. Wonderful!

What an impressive Building, inside and out. It is still a functioning church, but you are allowed to go inside and look around.

Another iconic place to visit when you in Leuven. This church remains me of nothredame church. When you enter the church, you can get the map explanation in view language. They even have audio guide or with tablet that you can used to understand all the display in the church. There is shop that you can buy accessories from the church there. You don't have to pay to enter the church. This is recommended place to visit too.

Fascinating church with some extraordinary artwork. I would definitely recommend getting the guide for a bit extra money, it gives you an extra insight into the world-famous works and other shrines etc in the church. Definitely a place to visit if you enjoy history, art and Low Countries medieval art.

A very beautiful church, but unfortunately we couldn't go inside. The doors opened at 11:00 a.m.
