A beautiful ancient site. We got there on a blustery day and were the only people there except for a shepherd and his flock of goats and sheep. The huge walls are amazing and have stood since around the 5th century BC. Feels like a very ancient place.

Absolutely beautiful, middle of nowhere mind buggled how the ancients manage to bring that stones in that position mad how to survive in such a harsh environment. Suggest going with a car all the way to the walls watch out for locals sheep hearding and cow farmers along the way. Something about the freshness of the air or the wild pomegranate in the wind breeze makes this place extra special.

Worth a see if passing by. Not much left of what was once a vast structure, but nevertheless fascinating. Pay special attention to the monumental scale of the stone slabs and the ways in which they were peculiarly cut and stacked.

Maybe even the oldest city so far discovered on the Balkan peninsula.
It is clearly megalithic building. The precision of some of the blocks that are put together without a mortar resembles the architecture of ancient Egypt, Peru etc.

It could be from the preflood era. It is very very old. Only a fraction of the stronghold remains standing today and part of it is because it is on a firm ground on the top of the ridge. My guess is that there was a river going through the canyon that is now gone.
Also You can see that the city was built in cascades that lower down the ridge. When You look at the geology of the site it is clearly seen that the ridge deteriorates becuase of its composition. So as a result of that the lower walls, or the most of the city if you wish, fell appart and ended up in the canyon from where the recicling of the massive blocks happend by the upcoming people of the area…

One of four places on the entire planet that had these huge stacked blocks, weighing up to 80 metric tonnes, the Illyrian old town of Daorson was a fortress that got destroyed by another Illyrian tribe, Dalmats. Daorson was allied to Romans, where Dalmats were allied to Greeks. There were 3 towers on these walls, meant as a last defense line, with walls from 5 to 8 metres thick. Behind the walls was the settlement that oversees the entire valley, very strategically placed. Just be careful as there are open cliffs surrounding you from all the sides when you pass the magnificent walls.

One of the most intriguing culture site you will ever visit!
Illyrian walls of the Doarson tribe, in my humble opinion are much older megalithic structure that needs to be studied 🗿

Daorson, an incredible megalithic site. According to some historians and archeologists, this town was built on the ruins of a prehistoric fortress from 1700/1600 BC that lasted until the end of the Bronze Age 900/800 BC. Daorson is one of the best-preserved towns built by ancient inhabitants of the Balkan.

Remains of the capital of a Hellenized Illyrian tribe called Daorses. Place needs a better road, but when you come here you have a lot to see if you looking for an ancient ruins. Position of city rules over the surrounding fields. Location is still less known to tourists, there are no souvenir shops, there are no parking, no tourist guides. Just ruins and Herzegovinian heat. Bring food and water with yourself and carefully walk around.
