Tarcutta Hotel

Just off the Hume highway (with none of the noise). And almost bang-on halfway between Melbourne and Sydney sits this beautiful little Australian country town, with a gorgeous, old style hotel and lovely rooms with an original front bar, excellent counter meals, friendly service and at reasonable prices. A very warm hostess awaits your arrival and the rooms are well priced. Open to negotiate for price if available. Right next to a petrol station with very cheap petrol too. Lovely, peaceful country surrounds with native birds at sunset and a lovely house-doggy to keep everyone company. Outside tables with umbrellas and a water bowl for your pets. Children and pets welcome. Genuine Australian country pub. The real deal.

Absolutely stellar experience at the hotel! We stopped by on our way from Melbourne to Sydney for drinks and food and it was the perfect break we needed. Great food and great service. Plus, owners a stunner, she welcomed us with open arms and a big smile.

Great country pub. Stopped in on a road trip recently and had a great meal and nice cold beer. The portion size was generous, great flavours and well presented. The staff were friendly and service was quick. Highly recommend stopping by or if you live around the region, make a trip. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Best fries ever. Burger was good too. Skip the Macca's on the road trip and do yourself a favour and stop in here. Staff were nice. I was going to stick my head in the kitchen and compliment the staff but they were hard at work. Will stop again for sure. Beer was $5 - bonus.

Great food and excellent service. The renovations to the pub are fantastic. Not many places would welcome an 11 year olds birthday party on a Saturday night, in the middle of winter, when outside is not an option, but that's exactly what the team did. No request was a hassle. Thanks for great pizza, great service and ensuring our son had a very happy birthday party.

Our family enjoyed our stay at the Tarcutta Hotel a couple of weeks ago en route back to Melbourne. It's honestly the best country pub-stay in its class that we've stayed in to date. Key highlights included the ripper steaks, welcoming our dog to stay, friendly locals and owners, room affordability and the central location. The pub was beautifully restored and a worth a stop on your next Sydney to Melbourne road trip. We'll be booking again for sure.

Absolutely brilliant Aussie pub. I drive interstate and try time my weekends so I can take a day off and enjoy a cold one at this pub. Great, friendly staff and mint publican. Highly recommend

Visited the pub with friends today. Bloody great feed, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. We all had a good time and thanks to Brendan and Emma for helping to make my birthday lunch most enjoyable....Highly recommended.

This is a classic Australian pub hotel a 1km from the highway with airy bottom floor bistro dining and lovely old wooden bar and floorboards. There are Pet friendly rooms upstairs and pet friendly courtyard/beer garden to boot backing on to an oval where your furry friends can stretch their legs. We travel from Sydney to Melbourne a couple of times a year and this is a new favourite. My partner and I found it clean and friendly with tasty pub fair.

Staff are all super friendly and if you call during kitchen hours they will cook you up a feed for if you arrive after the kitchen closes

Fantastic pub to stop for a feed, drink, or the night.

We stayed overnight en route from Meanjin to Naarm and were treated to a very reasonably priced, comfortable room ($85, pet friendly). Our meals were quality, and washed down with $5 schooners.

We can highly recommend to stop at this hotel. The meals are exceptional, beautiful fresh local farm produce. Cooked to perfection and reasonably priced. Well done to the owners & chef.

Amazing service, great food and such a friendly atmosphere, we felt super welcome. We had a great steak, schnitzel and kids schnitzel, and yes the chip seasoning is awesome. Well worth a detour off the highway!

Congratulations to the Tarcutta Hotel on a wonderful, warm and inviting venue every time we go there. Food is warm and delicious and the beer is icy cold. I Highly recommend for group bookings or a simple Sunday date lunch! If you ask nothing is too much trouble. Brendan, Em and the crew are very accommodating for families with children too. The wood fires are such a welcome treat on a cold winters day/evening. Can’t wait for summer time!

We absolutely where blown away with the food, kindness of all staff, cleanliness and warm beautiful atmosphere! Pizzas were to die for! My salad was so good I didn’t want it to end! Lol 😂 And the owners have put so much work and time into this beautiful pub ! We went to it when it wasn’t great before they took over and wow what a difference! Amazing pub ! Fire 🔥 was super warm and cosy ! We love going here ! They care about their customers and the tiny community which shows ! Well done 👍

Just spent a lovely night at the Tarcutta Hotel. Comfortable and clean rooms, nice hot showers, friendly publican and great food (I recommend the pizza). The only downside is there is a fair bit of traffic noise but this place is honestly so nice and such a good price it doesn’t really matter and can easily be remedied with a pair of earplugs. Great stop.

A small menu. just pizzas and burgers, but the quality of the food was really first rate, and a large and pleasant outdoor dining area allowed me to eat in comfort with my dog. Such a friendly, welcoming place, though, and the proprietor told me the accommodation is also dog-friendly. A very welcome addition to my repertoire of stopping places.
***UPDATE - reply below from the proprietor tells me that the menu is actually much more extensive than I've mentioned here - parmis, steaks and all the good stuff. I was too stupid to turn over the menu and look at the other side! A mistake I certainly won't make next time I come, and I look forward to it very much.
