My partner and I completed 6 days on the Overland in mid-August 2023, and looking for somewhere to relax the weekend before returning to work we decided to stay at the Tarraleah Lodge. It was absolutely perfect. Being winter we had the entire place to ourselves, and the personalised, very accommodating service began from the moment I booked. The building and surrounds are stunning, with lots of wildlife (and, of course, the gorgeous highland cattle) and our room (Executive Wilderness Suite) was superb. The nearby tavern is a nice, relaxed spot for dinner and drinks. Our entire stay we were looked after by the wonderful Chris who set breakfast at whenever time we liked, provided us with lunch knowing there were limited options at that time of year, and then cooked the most amazing private dinner for us on the Saturday night. I seriously cannot express how good that steak was, thank you so much Chris!! We also booked some time in the hot tub, which is beautifully set-up. I have stayed at a few places around Tassie but this is an absolute hidden gem, very quiet and relaxed, and the staff were truly excellent. Thank you for such a wonderful experience, I have no doubt we will be back!

The Tarraleah estate Cafe turkish bread sandwiches were excellent, along with the service from the young lady. Highly recommend the 500m diversion off the Lyell hwy if heading from Hobart to The Wall or Strahan.

We had a magical 2 nights in the lodge. Tarraleah is such a beautiful place with so much to explore. The walking trails on the property are fantastic and easy to access. Our room in the lodge was well appointed, clean and comfortable. The Highlander Tavern is great for dinner, warm, rustic and welcoming. The Lodge itself is amazing with a stunning lounge/bar area where you can relax, read a book or maybe do the Whiskey tasting.
Thank you to Damian for the wonderful greeting and explanation of how things work. Special mention to Chef Nikki for cooking us a delicious breakfast every morning. We will definitely be back !

What an amazing estate in the middle of nowhere. They have walking tracks, highland cows and a restaurant. The accommodation we got the cheap cabin had great amenities (bed was very uncomfortable thou). Staff are super friendly. The highlight was the cows and all the other wildlife.

My wife and I spent our anniversary weekend here, and enjoyed such special treatment. Everything was perfect, from the Sparkling on arrival, to the amazing art Deco room and surrounds, to the walks among highland cows, goats and other wildlife. Julian, Chris and the whole team were fantastic and sorted our every desire. Cannot recommend higher!

I have to make mention of the meals which we had whilst recently staying at our powered site the other night ! I had the cape grim steak & my wife had the double cooked pork belly … both meals were generous in size and cooked to perfection ! Full credit to this chefs ability …. absolutely delicious. It would have been my most favourite meal I have ever purchased whilst on holiday 10/10 👍 the staff were also warm friendly and helpful ! A great stay !!!

Quaint 1930's cottages, well renovated cottage, great fire, nice view, gardens are lovely. Highlander Arms resturant, lovely meal, generous serve of beer battered pink ling, chips & salad. Plenty of native animals, but we missed seeing Fergus 'the Hairy cow'. Interesting history, plenty of information to read about the Hydro scheme from 1930's onwards. Nice friendly & helpful staff. Great place for a getaway.

Having come off a long walk, we were so delighted to stay in warm, inviting and beautifully appointed cottage. The furnishing and style were a lovely mix of historic and modern amenities. The restaurant was also such a pleasant surprise, with amazing food, service and atmosphere. Would highly recommend!

We stayed in one of the Lakeside Cabins. Really well appointed cabin and great value. The staff had the heating on for us for when we arrived during a snap cold spell - 1C outside on arrival, but warm and toasty inside. very comfortable spot. Nice grounds to walk around and lovely highland cattle. Don't miss the veiwpoint next to the main lodge and read about the fascinating history of the Estate as a town built for the workers building the Hydro schemes and power stations.

We stayed in a cabin overnight - quite basic but comfortable enough and warm. The location is quite remote, but we were forewarned and brought our own food. The place is tranquil with wallabies hopping about. Very peaceful and a pleasant retreat with lots of history around it.

A lovely place to stay. The cottages are gorgeous, spacious and comfortable. We had a family with three kids and it was great for us. Went on a beautiful easy walk to Tarraleah Falls and ate a yummy dinner at the Highlander Arms. We will definitely return.

Nice place, lots of native animals. Good drive distance from Hobart. Very clean accommodation and worth the cost for a room with a queen bed.

A truly secluded village with a great 1930s aesthetic, friendly service in the restaurant and from reception staff. Loads of outdoor activities in the area - lovely rainforest scenery. Cottages are spacious and very well heated, nice decor, although some of the couches are not super comfortable. Plenty of living areas, effective wood-heating and electric heating too. Dishwasher and fully equipped kitchen. Very peaceful!

We spent 2 nights in Feb 2022. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to have a getaway in a beautiful valley. You must plan to cook because there is no cafe open and the nearest general store is IGA at Ouse. Other than that, we love the Engineer Cottage we stayed at. The property is clean with full kitchen, modem laundry and bathroom. We saw a full moon right from our bedroom, had breakfast outside front door overlooking a valley, saw plenty of wallabies, etc.

What a wonderful little place to stay. The cottages are beautifully presented and provided lots of space. We stayed in winter so the fireplace was well used. Reminded us a bit of the movie Pleasantville. Would gladly stay here again.
