Friendly Grocer

Friendly by name, friendly by nature! This is a great little local store, with some extra fun stuff that many local stores don't have. Those of us who live close by can call ourselves fortunate!

For a start, it's a decent local store - so the core business is taken care of. Prices are a little higher than in bigger supermarkets but you expect that for the convenience. All your basics are here plus quite a lot extra - so if you're missing that one ingredient or need a candle for a birthday party or you've broken a kitchen implement or whatever - try the Spence Grocer.

But wait, there's more! There's a lovely coffee counter, with seating inside and a serving window, a really impressive array of beers, ciders, and other drinks (including a walk-in cooler), and there are fresh breads and pastries - including savoury pies from Ulladulla. There's probably more I'm not even mentioning. But either way, this is a great one-stop shop and you'll be greeted by friendly folks as well, so give them your support.

Our fave suburban grocer! We miss it so much but love visiting when back at our Canberra house. Amazing coffee, fresh cooked food, cakes, wine, boutique goods!

Fantastic service that's friendly and fast. The Cafe is the central drawcard that has proven a winner. Filling and tasty foods hot,cold with awesome desserts. The hot chocs are great and I hear the coffee is too. Won't regret giving it a go.

I love popping into this place for a coffee on my way back to Gungahlin. Their coffee is excellent and their selection of cakes and pastries is so tempting it takes me ages to decide. The grocery section is pretty fab too with a wide variety of interesting stuff. They used to have a store in Gungahlin and I miss them.

Five big stars! Chris was just fantastic helping me with wine for my twin’s 21st. What a pleasure it was to be looked after by someone with so much industry knowledge and experience. Sooooo different to Dan Murphys and BWS where you feel like you’re being pushed to a product .. or end up with someone green as grass. Chris’s prices are also really competitive. Wonderful!

Great little grocer, with some more gourmet produce too. Wonderful selection of wines (with great advice too) and the instore cafe is fantastic. Good coffee and great brekkie rolls - and they have online ordering.

Discovered this little gem of a cafe (inside the Spence Grocer) about 8 months ago and have loved it. Great cakes, coffee, pies and menu items. My go to place to catch up with friends - nothing too fancy but easy parking right outside, and they usually have my favourite choc hazelnut meringue cake. The grocery part is clean and well stocked, as are the wines.

Not many suburban grocers in Canberra have a walk-in beer fridge, and this one is a lovely place on a boiling hot day. Quite probably the best pies in Canberra, even though they come from Ulladulla. But, my favourite things here are Spanish sherry, pastured eggs, grass-fed butters, raw milk and Dutch & Belgian cacao. On the one hand, this is a convenience store. On the other hand, there are things here which you will never find at the big 3 supermarkets.

Great local shop. Always has that missing ingredient you need at the last minute and their coffee is so good it attracts emergency services and makes Spence shops a safer place to be

Always good service, reasonable prices. Some good specials. Good liquor selections.

Excellent local supermarket. Great fresh produce, deli meats (pre packaged), artisan breads and small goods, as well as a good range of staples. And as a bonus a great selection from the liquor section. Great coffee.

They live up to their name. Staff always friendly and helpful and they have a good range, including gourmet. You could do an entire one stop dinner party, including fine wine from there.

Picked up a few essentials and had lunch here. Excellent choice of food, great coffee and very friendly staff. Will come again 🙂

PIE REVIEW

Bought 3 pies from the lovely people here. Honey roasted pumpkin, feta & spinach ( life changing pie ) Roast chicken bell pep feta ( outragouse ) & Steak curry ( always a win )

The pies have gotta be some of the absolute best Ive eaten, and Ive eaten about 1000 pies in my time, none of which have ever warranted a review, except this place! Beautiful flavours and just overall delicious.

Highly highly recommend!!

Always feel welcome at Spence. Will go out of my way to get coffee there. Great people and great service. Will always be back :)

Wonderful place to meet up with friends especially with kids. Coffee is excellent, the playground is great, the service is friendly and efficient. The groceries are on the expensive side but not unreasonably so considering it's a local shop.
